The first 3TB hard drive could be released later this year

The pursuit of terabytes continues, with the first 3TB hard drive being made by Seagate.

A report from Seagate Technology shows that they are already in full swing on their first three-terabyte winchester. The new hard drive will be a member of the Constellation ES family, which means that Seagate will primarily offer its new savior to enterprise environments such as servers or storage devices. In the 3,5 ”device, the plates work at a maximum speed of 7200 rpm. Communication with the machine is via a 6.0 Gbps SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) interface. If specimens for home use also run in, the price of 2TB models is likely to drop significantly.

In addition to Seagate, Western Digital also has a good chance of coming out with their first 3TB hard drive later this year, but it is not yet known whether they will target corporate or home users first.
