Current mobile trends

How well do young people know the mobile they take and the services they can choose from? What can the mobile do in class? What do teachers do with their cell phones when they’re not smiling? Why don't students shoot enough from the phone?Current mobile trends Among other things, the regional survey on the use of mobile and social media by young people in Csongrád County sought answers to these questions. The results of the research carried out with the support of Magyar Telekom's Southern Great Plain region were first presented at the Smartmobil conference by the Digital Culture and Theories Research Group of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Szeged. The material has now become available to everyone as an e-book.

The strategic cooperation between the University of Szeged and Magyar Telekom's Southern Great Plain region has reached another milestone: its results are now available. Although the researchers only examined the customs of the locals, due to the high number of 1747 evaluable young respondents, the result can be applied to young people in probably any other Hungarian area (especially the counties with a university focus).

The generation currently in secondary and higher education is particularly receptive to the use of mobile devices, so expanding their involvement and mobile knowledge is of paramount importance to both academia and telecommunications companies. This basically requires two things: on the one hand, we need to know what knowledge (or sometimes more “ideas”) they have about today's Hungarian mobile market (providers, services), what aspects they choose new devices for, and if they have new, mostly smart devices. there are, then, what they are used for.

Market data and digital education opportunities: In the first part of the research report, they were curious about market knowledge. Among other things, the share of young mobile operators among the young people of Csongrád County is revealed. It is clear from the answers that there is a lot of potential in the field of mobile internet among those participating in secondary and higher education, but it also turned out that it is not so easy to exploit it. The answers to the market knowledge control questions show that many people are not aware of exactly which company and within which area they can turn for such a service.

While pilot projects in many countries around the world are testing the use and potential of digital mobile devices (e-readers, tablets, smartphones) in education, nowhere has a comprehensive, preliminary survey been conducted that gives an accurate picture of how students relate to prior to projects for these tools: how they are used, what tasks they think are suitable to perform, and what is expected of such tools in an educational setting. The second part of the report is therefore about the use of mobiles in educational settings. All this is important because, on the one hand, it can directly strengthen mobile use and related distribution, and on the other hand, if mobile devices appear in an institutionalized form in the education subsystem, it can also indirectly have a positive effect on the intensity of mobile use.
