Axis network cameras on Norwegian railways
Axis Communications network cameras are installed on trains in Norway.
Axis partner ESP Group, a system integrator specializing in intelligent video surveillance systems, received the order from NSB, Norwegian State Railways. This means almost 3200 AXIS 209FD-R and AXIS 221 cameras in the first round, but the system can be expanded later.
Axis network cameras are part of a rail solution to improve the safety of passengers and crew. Installation of the devices will begin in spring 2008 and is expected to be completed by mid-2010. The AXIS 209FD-R cameras will be used inside railcars, and the AXIS 221s will be used to monitor areas in front of and behind trains.
"In recent years, we have seen increasing interest in network video systems in the transportation sector," said Ray Mauritsson, president of Axis Communications. "Axis' network video products have already been used in many challenging environments, such as on buses in Stockholm, trains in Zurich and metro trains in Moscow."

Since its introduction, the AXIS 209FD-R has been in high demand as it has been specifically developed to meet the needs of the transportation industry. It is ideal for use in cases where a very compact, yet uncompromising quality solution is required.
The AXIS 209FD-R network camera is only four centimeters high and can be easily mounted on the ceiling or walls. Thanks to its excellent image quality, individual persons and important objects can be easily recognized. The AXIS 209FD-R uses Power over Ethernet technology, meaning it is powered by the same network cable on which it transmits images - making installation quick and cost-effective. The AXIS 221 is a camera with both night and day functions, capable of capturing high-quality, detailed videos 24 hours a day.
