Athlon 64 FX-57 news

There are only a few days left until the release of AMD’s next high-end processor, so it’s time to find out some important things about it.

First of all, a significant change from what has been the norm so far is that the appearance of the Athlon 64 FX-57 does not go hand in hand with the immediate extinction of the previous FX-55, as the manufacturer does not intend to replace it with this release. This is also shown by the unfortunate fact that while an Athlon 64 FX-55 officially costs $ 855, its new brother is already being asked for $ 1040, so the price of high-end products is going up even further.

Built on a 1 MB L2800 cache, the San Diego core product is already running at 200 MHz, meaning we’ve got another 55 MHz jump over its predecessor. At the same time, unfortunately, its consumption and heat production have also increased significantly: while an FX-89 has caught up with 110 W of heating, it already produces 64, which, although still significantly lower than competing products in a similar category, does not change the fact that warming. If we go to the official heat production data, it is worth mentioning that the traditional Athlon 3500s with Venice and San Diego cores are 67+ up to 4200W, from there 89+ to 64W, while the dual-core Athlon 2 X110s they already also produce XNUMX W.

It would not be fair to withhold competition data either: the Prescott and Prescott-2M could be ashamed by 3400 W up to 84 MHz, 3400 W between 3800 and 115 MHz, while the dual-core Smithfield could shame 2800 W at 104 MHz and 130 W above it. ot typically heats, but the maximum values are much worse, for example, in the case of this specimen they already exceed 160 W.

Going back to the original theme, the Athlon 64 FX-57, the manufacturer - quite understandably - still considers this to be the strongest series for gamers, the Athlon 64 X2 remains for content creators for the time being, the FX series will only get twin cores next year.

It is also interesting to note that with the release of the Athlon 64 FX-57, the manufacturer will actively advertise overdrive options, but this of course does not provide any guarantee, it probably only suggests that the company wants it to be behind the record-breaking attempts. his product could stand.
