ASUS XG Station: more details

As the ASUS XG Station began to launch, the manufacturer provided another noteworthy piece of information about the product.

With the ASUS XG Station, you can pair the notebook's integrated graphics controller with an optional video card with a PCI Express x16 interface. Unfortunately, the extremely ingenious car stereo-like product cannot be purchased separately and will only be available in pairs with an ASUS video card in April.

The XG Station’s capabilities were demonstrated back at CES in January, when an Intel 945GM IGP was paired with a GeForce 7900 GS, delivering about nine times the graphics performance as without the use of the optional VGA.

Contrary to previous misconceptions, the XG Station does not have a six-channel (5.1) output, so we can only get simulated surround sound through the earphones.

The following information can be read on the color display:

  • volume
  • GPU clock and temperature
  • the speed of the fan that cools the graphics processor
  • current FPS value
  • Dolby Headphone function status

The XG Station also provides limited tuning capabilities, as it allows you to change the operating frequency of the GPU, but you cannot make any other fine adjustments or control the clock of the graphics memory.
