ASUS Striker Extreme: nForce 680i based

The motherboard, called ASUS Striker Extreme, is based on the NVIDIA nForce 680i chipset and is the latest member of the Republic of Gamers product family.

For a motherboard specifically designed for power-hungry gamers, reference cooling has been replaced by ASUS ’own solution. Supported CPUs include all LGA775 Intel processors, including the dual-core Core 2 Duo and the upcoming quad-core Core 2 Quad units. The FSB can be up to 1066 MHz in addition to the usual 800/533/1333 MHz, while the four memory slots can accommodate a total of 8 GB of 800/667/533 MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory.

The motherboard has two full-featured PCI Express x16 sockets for multi-card NVIDIA SLI systems. We can also see a third PCIe x16 on it, but it actually only does its thing at eight times the speed. A little attention from ASUS engineers is that this coupler is white for easier identification. They also housed two traditional PCI slots and a PCIe x1.

Among the dry technical data, it is worth mentioning the simultaneous management of six SATA 3.0 Gb / s and one Ultra DMA 133/100/66/33 interface, as well as a maximum of 10 USB 2.0 / 1.1 interface devices.

LEDs on the motherboard provide useful service in poorly lit rooms and make installation easier, while shutdown, restart or clearing of CMOS can be done at the touch of a button using switches. Another special feature is the 8-channel SupremeFX sound card packed with the product, which provides full DTS and EAX 2.0 sound for the hollow ears.
