ASUS motherboard for up to 24 processor cores
ASUS, of course, recommends the dual-processor socket motherboard just introduced for servers.
Named ASUS KGPE-D16, the motherboard uses the AMD SR5690 / SP5100 chipset. AMD supports the new 8- and 12-core Opteron 6100 headunits, which are codenamed Magny-Cours. We find two G34 processor sockets on it, so the maximum number of usable cores is 24. Eight four-channel DDR3 memory slots per CPU were installed. It also has four PCI-Express X16 busbars, 14 SATA2 ports, three Ethernet connectors and a D-SUB output.
Tom Lin, CEO of ASUS, said the motherboard, along with the Opteron 6100 processors and the AMD Server chipset, is strong enough to hold up to high-performance computing or a web server where the load can be huge at times.
