ALP: The future of Palm OS?

The future of Palm OS seems to be the Access Linux Platform.

When ACCESS acquired PalmSource, the maker of Palm OS, last year, the future of the operating system for Palm OS-based devices was shrouded in darkness. Although version 6, code-named "Cobalt", was released some time ago, PalmOne refused to make devices with it, and to this day ships its PDAs with the increasingly aging Palm OS 5 operating system, code-named Garnet. Now, ACCESS has announced the “Access Linux Platform”, which includes version 2.6.12 of the popular open source system as a kernel, and the GUI will be gnome-based. In any case, ALP will fortunately be compatible with the majority of programs written for Palm OS 5, thanks to the framework code-named MAX — and for the sake of ease of use, the familiar interface will remain. Expected release sometime in 2007 on various devices. Based on the first pictures, the system really hasn't changed much from the outside.
