Samsung is dictating the pace in the graphics memory market

The latest price cut by the South Korean manufacturer has infuriated the competition.

DigiTimes, citing industry sources, said the fact that Samsung's memory division intends to hit not only GDDR2 modules but also competing manufacturers in this industry with significant price reductions. According to the specific example, Samsung would give its partners a 256 megabyte (16MB × 16) GDDR2 package for 50 cents, while the competition would be able to produce the same amount for $ 1 for 40 cents.

This move by Samsung could also lead to more price competition in the graphics memory market after generic DRAM chips, which could be another blow to competing manufacturers trying to weather the period of the DRAM price drop.
