PowerColor has introduced its self-built dual GPU HD 6870PowerColor performed a kind of "Galaxy" operation when it planted two BartsXTs, or HD 6870 GPUs, side by side on the same printed circuit board.

Since neither NVIDIA nor AMD is currently working on cards that will be released in the near future and could cause excitement, this year’s Computex will not be about the big video card demos and tests. The show this time will be hosted by Intel’s LGA2011 and AMD’s AM3 + platforms, so graphics card manufacturers need to do something to get some attention for them as well. Since no meaningful new model arrives, this can only be achieved with something unusual. PowerColor took advantage of this opportunity and came up with a muscle jug built in-house. The company has reached out to "GPU doubling", which has been seen several times by other manufacturers, based on a 40nm BartsXT GPU, a Radeon 6870, but didn't leave the core without a partner and packed another one right away. next to it.

So the card consists of two BartsXTs that can provide, or at least approach, the speed of a dual-card deployment of the HD 6870 CrossFire. In addition, the dual-core card can be used in additional CrossFire mode, so with a traditional HD 6870 three, and with the same dual-core instance, four HD 6870 GPUs can be used. The structure of the PCB follows the standard AMD dual GPU layout, with the cores on one side next to each other, with the PLX PCI-Express bridge at the top between them. Both tiles have their own VRM area. BartsXTs can each manage 1GB of GDDR5 memory coupled to a 256-bit memory bus. Power is provided by two 8-pin PCI-Express power connectors. We haven’t seen any pictures of the card cooling yet, but rumors say a two- or three-fan solution will serve. Of course, the price of the product is currently unknown, as is the exact release date.
