Google has acquired Motorola Mobility

Google has announced the completion of its acquisition of Motorola Mobility, under which Google paid $ 40 cash per share for MMI. 

With the acquisition, Google will further boost the momentum of the Android ecosystem and boost competition in mobile computing. Motorola Mobility will continue to be licensed by Android, and Android will remain an open source product. Google operates Motorola Mobility as a separate company. 

Sanjay Jha, who is thriving Motorola’s Mobile Devices business and managing the acquisition, has resigned as CEO, but will continue to work with Google to make the transition smooth.
The new CEO of Motorola Mobility has been Dennis Woodside, former president of Google’s U.S. region, who led the planning for acquisition-related integration.

We are having fantastic times in the mobile sector and I am confident that the Motorola team will continue to work on creating the next generation of mobile devices that will improve people’s lives in the years ahead, ”said Larry Page, CEO of Google.

“I have known Dennis for almost a decade. He has fantastic team building skills and has achieved excellent results with some of Google’s top projects. Dennis has always been committed to our customers and I know he will be a great leader at Motorola as well. The launch is very promising, as it will immediately enrich the Motorola team with some extraordinary new employees, ”added the Google CEO.
