Google canceled the "Compact Navigation" project

Google canceled the "Compact Navigation" projectThe developers of Google Chrome have made radical changes to the title bar, but now they think that’s not the right direction.

The essence of the compact interface is to make the title bar disappear. The idea is to enter the website address in the tabs of the tabs. The tiny title bar that appears will automatically disappear as you move the mouse. To redisplay, simply click on that tab. With this solution, the Chrome interface takes up 30 pixels less space.

According to the developers, the compact interface is not the optimal direction for renewing Chrome's user interface. The experiment ended, the project was canceled. For users who want to use the compact interface, there is only one way left. In developer releases before July 26, this experimental function can still be found on the about:flags page, where it can be activated under the menu item "Compact Navigation". After restarting the browser, the address bar can be hidden as follows: click on a tab with the right mouse button, then select the "hide the toolbar" option in the context menu that appears.
