Disney's upcoming Blu-ray movies

As has long been the case, the Walt Disney Company, unlike other movie studios, has voted for Blu-ray.

Major film production companies support the HD DVD standard, such as Paramount and Universal Pictures, as well as Warner Brothers. Despite this, Disney decided to join the camp of "bluer laser people".

Disney earlier this week unveiled the nine movies that will appear for the first time on Blu-ray media. In addition to high-definition videos, the two-wave discs will have the usual interactive menus, scene selection and extras.

Titles of the films coming on September 19:

  • Dinosaurs (2000)
  • Eight Below (2006)
  • Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001)
  • The Great Raid (2005)

Titles of the films to be released on October 17:

  • Glory Road (2006)
  • Haunted Mansion (2003)
  • Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000)
  • Dark Water (2005)
  • The Brothers Grimm (2005)

It is important to mention that these publications are likely to be MPEG-2 encoded, so the monolayer nature of BR discs can be a problem in terms of storage capacity, as - in addition to the extras - it is questionable how much space will be left for high-definition footage. The discs will be available for purchase for $ 34,99 each, which translates to a purchase price of approximately $ 7500.
