DDR2 is an expired disk, here's DDR3!

DDR2 memories have been criticized by many since their appearance, as they did not offer any advantage over traditional DDR modules due to their high latency and low clock speeds.

Today, this situation seems to be changing. Maybe that's why it's time for DDR3 memories.

DDR2 is an expired disk, here's DDR3!

A memory module company called Buffalo has announced that they have completed the development of their DDR3 modules. According to the company, the essential feature of the new memories is low operating voltage and higher bandwidth compared to its predecessor.

At the same time as the announcement, they also unveiled their two models. The standard DIMM has a connector and a clock speed of 1066 MHz. The operating voltage was 1,5 volts, a decrease of 0,3 volts compared to conventional DDR2 modules.

The manufacturer expects the first machines with DDR3 modules to be available in 2007 and to be widely deployed in 2008. According to their plans, they will produce modules with a higher capacity than the one presented now, as 3 and 1 GB modules are expected to gain ground by the time DDR2 becomes available.
