We sent 31 million SMS on New Year’s Eve

On the last day of the previous year and the first of this year, Vodafone Hungary's customers sent nearly eight million SMS and MMS, as well as more than seven million phone calls. T-Mobile users sent a total of more than 12 and a half million SMS messages on New Year's Eve, while Telenor Hungary's customers exchanged 10,8 million text messages on the last and first day of the year.

In the case of Vodafone, the volume of SMS messages was almost twenty percent lower than a year earlier, due to the fact that people are increasingly sending their New Year's wishes to their loved ones and friends using social networks and thus partly mobile internet. Similar trends have been reported by T-Mobile and Telenor, as smartphones that support multimedia content have made the Internet a dominant messenger on holidays. And although many of Telenor's subscribers, for example, still wanted a pleasant holiday via SMS, the number of MMS and mobile internet greetings increased significantly compared to previous years.

Telenor's research in Hungary in 2011 shows that in addition to the well-known, traditional functions, users also prefer to use their mobile phones for entertainment, viewing and forwarding multimedia content. For example, 91 percent of subscribers take photos with their device on a regular basis.
