2 GB FB-DIMM memory from Corsair

The Corsair 2 GB DDR2-667 FB-DIMM was introduced, priced at $ 379, or about $ 71.

Corsair’s 2-gigabyte FB-DIMM has been tested on dual-core Xeon-based servers, so it is primarily recommended for Intel processors. It is not known whether these tests have been extended to Apple Mac Pro and Xserve, but it is likely that compatibility issues will not occur in these cases either.

About technology in brief

The 240-pin FB-DIMM (Fully Buffered Dual Inline Memory Module) memory type promises more performance and more secure operation than traditional DDR2 memories. The technology supported by Intel is based on DDR2 memories, supplemented by a tiny control chip called the Advanced Memory Buffer (AMB). This essentially creates a serial transmission protocol from the essentially parallel DRAM modules, resulting in a point-to-point connection between the module and the controller. This allows you to use multiple modules per channel. The disadvantages of FB-DIMMs are their high price, significantly increased latency times, higher power consumption, and higher heat generation.
