Sony has introduced optics for 16-megapixel mobile phones

Sonyi is also reportedly embarking on a battle of megapixels between mobile phone manufacturers.

Altek first announced its model with a 14 Megapixel sensor, followed by Panasonic this week with the Lumix Phone, which we also reported. Sony doesn't seem to want to be left out of the fight either, so he also pulled the cover off two optics for mobile devices.

Pictured left is the IMX081PQ optics, which can capture 16,4 Mpixel images. On the right is a sensor called the IMX105PQ that can take 8,1 Mpixels. Sony is aware that with such a small sensor, there may be problems with image quality, but the promise is that with its own technological innovation, high-quality, low-noise photos can be taken with CMOS sensors.

Both modules are capable of capturing HD videos, in addition to 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second, and can be used at 720p resolution, in which case the news can be recorded at 60 frames per second. The larger sensor will go into production in January, while its little brother can be installed in the devices from April.
