Tried it: Radeon HD 6790 vs. GeForce GTX 550 Ti OC - lightning test!

If we look at the results in the table, they speak for themselves. Under FutureMark programs, i.e. 3DMark Vantage and 3DMark11, the Radeon HD 6790 washes the GeForce GTX 550 Ti, and under Unigine Heaven, the power balance is much more balanced. MediaEspresso generally prefers CUDA-based GPU acceleration (the process itself is different from AMD's STREAM), as we can see now, as the amplification system with GeForce ended much earlier. Of the five games in the test, the Radeon HD 6790 is clearly faster, the GTX 550 Ti only able to win in Far Cry 2 and Hawx 2.

Strictly speaking, the comparison is not entirely objective in that the measurements were not made at reference clocks, but since both cards have factory tuning, they can safely be considered highly indicative. Of the two cards, the HD 6790 received the major factory overdrive, so it is conceivable that the gap between the two competing models would be one to two FPS smaller at basic clocks, but the fact remains. AMD Radeon has successfully accomplished what it was created for: it was clearly able to outperform the GeForce GTX 550 Ti, at least in most of the test applications we use anyway.

So the performance advantage is on AMD’s side, let’s see what we find in terms of cost, i.e. purchase price. Depending on the brand and model, the cheapest NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti is available for around HUF 31 gross, while the AMD Radeon HD 000 can be purchased for around HUF 6790, so the two models need to be practically the same price. So, however, there was no question left about the decision if we wanted to choose a video card for 32 HUF: we would rather choose the Radeon HD 000! We were satisfied with the quality and reliability of both cards in the test, in terms of exclusivity and novelty, the HIS 30 IceQ X Turbo beat our hearts, which is not only recommended based on its performance, but also on its price!
