If you’re looking for a synonym for cheap, good, Chinese words, then Xiaomi Sneakers 4 is just the way to do it!

Introductory

I'm past a real endurance test. Well not with shoes called Sneakers 4, but with Sneakers 2, better known as Xiaomi Fishbone. I’ve been skinning for more than two years now, and for me, skinning isn’t like everyday use. If it’s not minus 20 degrees and it’s raining, I’m going everywhere in this, on the street, in the woods, everywhere. I build in it, dig the garden, and I usually do everything in it.

Okay, I know I’m not completely normal, but that’s still the case, I love shoes and just stick to everything.

I don’t usually spend a fortune on shoes, I get along with the cheaper pieces. But, sometime three years ago, I bought a cheap but branded training shoe in a home store that fell off after just a year. Because of this, I was forced to look for a successor, then I caught my eye on Xiaomi's footwear, for which they asked for barely 14 thousand in HUF, thanks to the good exchange rate. I obviously ordered it.

The shoe has arrived, and in my article about it, I wrote it was the most comfortable shoe of my life. And you know what, after two years of gross torture, it still is.

Xiaomi Sneakers 4

This year, I decided to invest in another shoe. It’s not like I can’t wear the other one, but it’s black and I wanted a younger, lighter color next to it. Nana, I bought Xiaom again. However, two years have passed, the last generation has been left out, and the Sneakers have changed quite a bit. Because of this, I was a little excited to see if the new one would be as good as the first one. I should not have.

When my first remark arrived was that it didn’t come in a box like its predecessor, it just got a bag. I was also horrified, I connected this with the deterioration of the quality and the saving. My grief lasted until my new footwear came out. It looks incredibly good.

There have been many changes compared to two years ago. The weave on the top is completely changed, the side is less elastic, in return the weave is denser, so it will be more wearable than the Fishbone even in transition. The heel area and the area under the ankle became stronger, getting better stiffening. Inside, the pillows are bigger and softer. The size of the sole has also increased, mostly at the heel.

Fortunately, one thing hasn’t changed, and that is comfort.

But before I report on the experience, let’s first see what curiosities the shoe holds!

Xiaomi Sneakers 4 - Technology

The sole

The sole is made up of five different layers, although the material of the upper two layers is the same. This structure was simpler than it was for Sneakers 2.

• At least it is opened with a non-slip layer made of relatively hard rubber with a grid pattern. This part meets the ground, so it is important for both abrasion resistance and slip resistance. According to the press, they tried to imitate the ribbing of car tires.
• The second layer is the largest piece of sole it is made of EVA. This is the foam most commonly used in the soles of sports shoes. The pressed ethyl vinyl acetate is heated and pressed into the sole shape. It is lightly elastic and has good damping properties, meaning this layer already counts in terms of shock absorption.
• The third is a TPU layer. TPU, or thermoplastic polyurethane (thermoplastic polyurethane). The purpose of this layer is to provide adequate rigidity to the sole and, in addition, to further improve the shock-absorbing ability. The great advantage of the material is that it is insensitive to temperature changes, ie it has constant, unchanging capabilities even in high heat or frost.
• On the fourth and fifth “levels,” we find a layer of polyurethane, or PU, that would come in contact with our soles if a thin layer of fabric wasn’t glued on or an extra insole was found in the shoe.

The bottom abrasion resistant layer, at least in terms of eyes and hardness, is the same as the material on Sneakers 2 Fishbone shoes, this is well tested by me. It is not worn or detached from the EVA layer above it.

This EVA layer is what is most visible from the sole, the foamed material is clearly visible. Above it is the TPU, which feels placed in the longitudinal-center line of the shoe, connecting the heel part to the front part. It gives a good stiffness, but allows the two parts to twist a little apart.

On top, the two layers of TPU are a little harder than the second layer, in addition to shock absorption, it plays an important role in giving the corner part some stability.

Upper piece

Xiaomi stayed on with its well-proven sock design. Translated into Hungarian, this means that the entire upper is made of one material, there is no shoe tongue. The entire upper is elastic, so it follows the shape of the foot exactly.

The structure of the fishbone has changed, more precisely, it has been replaced. In the case of the Fishbone, these straps gave shape and support to the upper of the shoe, but in the case of the Snakers 4, this was probably no longer necessary due to the thicker and denser weave. Instead of the fishbone, we got shoelaces attached to the sole, which keep the foot well from lateral movement, but do not squeeze.

The shoe became stiffer than the heel. The stiffening is higher on the side and back as well, but its hardness is adequately balanced by the softer inner padding.

Antibacterial and deodorizing technology

This is something completely new, I haven’t come across this with Xiaomi shoes so far. The official material writes:

Of course, I haven't had enough time to comment on this technology, or more specifically its effectiveness, but since Sneakers 4 is at least as well ventilated as its predecessor, and since it didn't have a sweaty problem with it, I suspect there won't be a complaint right now. Microban’s technology is thus just icing on the cake.

Xiaomi Sneakers 4 - use, experience

I honestly admit, I’m only wearing my shoes for the third day, but I can draw more lessons in that much time. Especially how I have to compare to it, as I have accumulated several years of experience with Fishbone.

First and foremost, comfort has not changed at all. As with the Fishbone, it can be said here that the shoes are as if they were made specifically for my feet. This is not an exaggeration at all, and there is no wonder in it, simply the elastic but not too soft upper embraces the foot tightly but not hurtfully. Because of this, nowhere is it too big, nowhere is it too small, it stretches where it needs to be, and where it doesn’t, it stays there like before we pulled it to our feet.

I also ran a little in my shoes. I already mentioned at Fishbone that you can run in it, because of the softness of the sole I dared to recommend it for hard ground and asphalt. However, that shoe was not an outspoken sports shoe.

Well, Sneakers 4 isn’t either, but it’s definitely better than its predecessor. The heel part absorbs shocks to almost the same level as my real running shoes, which are orders of magnitude more expensive, and the stiffening of the heel part makes our steps stronger during sports as well.

Although in the case of the Fishbone, the foot did not wobble to the right or left, in the case of Sneakers 4 it almost disappeared.

Overall, the Sneakers 4 still remained more of a general street shoe, but still much more suitable for sports than its predecessor. I would advise that those who play sports regularly, on an amateur level, should not choose this, but those who only feel like running a little a few days can buy it.

What I’m sure of is that no one will complain about either the exterior or the comfort, it’s amazingly comfortable to wear, plus the price doesn’t cut us to the ground.

Xiaomi Sneakers 4 - Conclusion

Xiaomi's shoes are still cheap, the price in dollars has not changed much. This means a price between $ 50 and $ 55, depending on the promotions. Unfortunately, the exchange rate of the forint is no longer the same as it was two years ago, so the price calculated in domestic currency increased slightly.
