Xiaomi Roborock S50 against Roborock T6: is it worth switching?

Xiaomi Roborock S50 against Roborock T6: is it worth switching?

Xiaomi’s new robotic vacuum cleaner has arrived, in our article we’re looking for the answer to whether it’s worth switching.

Xiaomi Roborock S50 against Roborock T6: is it worth switching?

Introductory

Xiaomi's first and second generation vacuum cleaners with laser sensors are still a hit. The reason for this is simple, they brought knowledge into the affordable category that we could only dream of until then. The machine with a laser sensor cleans extremely efficiently, running through the apartment in the shortest possible time. In addition, the machine can be controlled from a telephone, through which we can also monitor its operation.

Now that the successor christened T6 has been introduced under the Roborock brand, the question arises as to whether it is worth switching to whether we are getting an innovation that was not the case in the past. It is also a question of whether the expected higher price makes it a good choice to choose the old one as long as it is available in the stores, or pay more for the newer one.

Skills pros and cons

What you will know about the new vacuum cleaner will be included in the table below, as well as the details below. As far as the hardware is concerned, it is equipped with the Allwinner R16 processor, a Texas Instruments signal processor and a microprocessor manufactured by STMicroelectronics. The brush on the belly of the device is made of a material called DuPont Zytel. Based on the pictures, the design also changed somewhat, it became a bit perhaps clearer than its predecessor, if at all it was a highly subjective feeling, as it didn't have much to clean.

The table below summarizes the data, it's worth browsing through!

What do the Roborock S50 and T6 have in common?

The two vacuum cleaners, as you can see from the table above, have a lot in common, so we have to dig deeper for the differences. What is definitely common is that in terms of capabilities, they go below competing manufacturers in price.

LIDAR system

P6WX0gXX E4XNywXX 6B6uOgXX 1gdS7AXX

At the top of the vacuum cleaners we find the “gun turret” where the LDS sensor is hidden. We already know how it works, after switching on it maps the environment, the machine plans the cleaning route based on this, so that if possible it does not go through several points more than once. This reduces cleaning time and makes operation more efficient.

Smart navigation

Unlike traditional robots, which have no mapping capability and move randomly until the battery is discharged, Roborock navigates efficiently.

It always travels in a straight line from the cleared area to the next uncleaned area based on the map created.

The robot is equipped with a lot of sensors that prevent falls, jams and keep a maximum distance of 10 mm from the wall. Roborock claims the new T6 has improved cleaning efficiency by 20%.

Phone application and various functions

The application allows you to switch between cleaning modes, start and stop the machine, schedule work at a specific time.

Digital area blocking

If there is a room that does not need to be cleaned, or there are places where, for example, there is a lot of cable on the ground, you can set that area to be left out by the vacuum cleaner, turn the area into a restricted zone, the robot will not try to reach them.

Zonal cleaning

We may not need to clean the entire apartment. Somewhere a tile fell and the ground spilled, the crumbs scattered from the dining table. You can set it to clean up these areas through the app. It is enough to select the area on the map available in the program, the vacuum cleaner will automatically roll over and clean it in the shortest way.

Real-time tracking

Thanks to the three built-in processors, we can track the robot in real time.

Manual control

With the built-in virtual joystick, you can control the machine manually like a remote-controlled car.

Strong suction, obstacle climbing and automatic carpet detection

Both Roborock models have powerful engines capable of working at 2000 Pa. The machines have almost outstanding suction power on the market, few competitors are able to show such suction power.

Roborock can climb up to 20 mm in height. Carpets and thresholds no thicker than 20 mm are not a problem for the robot.

Roborock’s sensors are able to detect a carpet floor or rug. Once the machine is on the carpet, the suction force automatically rises to the maximum level, allowing it to suck out dirt from deeper, even from the fibers. When the carpet is over, the suction force decreases back to the value used before.

MOP function

Roborock uses S5 and T6 water tanks and microfiber MOPs. In the newer model, the wipe is not washable, it must be discarded and replaced again after wear.

The MOP function, as described several times, is not a substitute for strong scrubbing. By using it, we can remove minor dirt or make the apartment completely dust-free. It is worth using 1-2 times a week to remove any remaining fine dust from the apartment. The vacuum cleaner can perform wet cleaning for about 40-50 minutes by filling the water tank once.

Same sizes

Both robots have a circular diameter of 35 centimeters and a height of 9,6 centimeters and weigh 3,5 kg.

Battery, charge and restart

Roborock vacuum cleaners have a Li-ion battery with a capacity of 5200 mAh. Cleaning can take up to 150 minutes on a single charge, which is the longest cleaning time in the industry, enough to clear an area of 250 square feet.

If the battery charge drops below 20 percent during cleaning, the vacuum cleaner automatically returns to the dock, charges itself to 80 percent, and then automatically completes cleaning. After cleaning the entire apartment, he returns to the dock again to fill himself 100 percent to prepare for the next cleaning cycle.

How did the Roborock T6 get better than the Roborock S50?

As we have seen above, the two machines have the same capabilities in many respects. Nevertheless, digging a little deeper also reveals significant differences that we are good to know about. Examples include improved mapping, a redesigned more efficient water tank, or quieter operation. Let’s see the details of where the differences are!

Advanced mapping technology

Roborock claims the route planning for the newer vacuum cleaner is better, more efficient, smarter than it was for the previous model. The machine produces more accurate maps, which allow us to designate restricted zones or zoned cleaning much more accurately. According to the manufacturer, the new machine was able to improve cleaning efficiency by 20 percent, one of the main reasons being that the efficiency of cleaning tight areas has increased a lot.

With the new map generated by Roborock T6, the rooms can be recognized automatically. This allows you to set different timed cleaning for different rooms, leaving some rooms or other rooms out of your daily routine. In addition, the Roborock T6, of course, supports virtual walls and zoned cleaning, as we were used to from its predecessor.

The Roborock T6 can store multiple maps, which is ideal for a multi-level house. The Robrock S5 can only save one map, so this is a clear step forward, an advantage over the new vacuum cleaner.

Changed appearance

RoboRock T6 vacuum robot design 734x599

While the Roborock S50 had a glossy lid, the successor was given a T6 matte lid. In the case of the S50 we got three real buttons on the cover, but in the case of the T6 there are no more, the buttons became touch sensitive. There is no other difference in appearance. What even changed was the docking station, adapting to the vacuum cleaner’s sleek exterior with a slightly new design.

MOP, new water tank and disposable wipe

Due to the new water reservoir, a serious difference can be detected in the MOP function. In the case of the Roborock S50, the tank was designed so that when the vacuum cleaner stopped, no water dripped from it. The new tank knows more than that. It can deliver water to the floor in two stages. The traditional mode is similar to the predecessor model, but we also get a mode where double the amount of water gets on the wipe, thus dissolving the dried stains more effectively. In the case of the S50, the manufacturer has been criticized for this, it seems our complaints have been heard!

The Roborock S50 is equipped with a microfiber cloth, while the T6 also comes with 10 disposable wipes and a conventional microfiber cloth. It doesn’t seem like a big improvement, but anyone who uses an S50 knows that cleaning and washing a soiled cloth is a bit macerate. With the new machine, you can choose to use the original wipe and wash it, or choose disposable, which can then be replaced in one go.

Refurbished, detachable brush

As I described the Xiaomi in the Roborock S50 test at the time, more specifically Roborock was a big help to us when making the knife for the roller brush an accessory for the vacuum cleaner. This allowed us to easily cut the curled hair, animal hair and more from the brush. Based on currently available data, the manufacturer uses a first-class brush made of DuPont Zytel material for the T6. It is a blend of traditional bristles and rubber that makes the brush ideal for use on several different surfaces. The brush can be disassembled, making it easier to remove curled hair and animal hair.

Less noise, new engine

Roborock T6 8

Roborock has done an excellent job of reducing noise levels. Modified fan airflow and optimized motor vibration. This makes the Roborock T6 quieter than its predecessor, the Roborock S50.

Xiaomi Mi AI speaker support

The latest Roborock T6 is compatible with the Xiaomi Mi AI speaker. This is very good news for Chinese speakers, but it doesn’t bring us any benefits because Xiaomi’s speakers are made for Chinese paic, and we don’t see much hope for them to appear in other localizations yet. These speakers use Xiaomi’s artificial intelligence, as do the company’s in-house phones. In the latter, the Xiaomi Ai has been replaced by Google in the Global version of the devices, which still gives it a few percent chance that the otherwise great speakers will be available with us later. According to current but not yet entirely certain information, we are getting Amazon Alexa / Google Home support, but we would not dare to poison it yet.

The final question is, is it worth buying, and if so, to whom?

From the above, it can be seen that the manufacturer has also made serious improvements to the machine, but it can still be interpreted as a wrinkled version. This is because perfectly not much can be improved. As with the Xiaomi Mi Band 2, which was an extremely well-hit smart bracelet. The company has made fundamental and important improvements, think of a better display, a larger battery or water resistance up to a depth of 50 meters, but we average users don’t notice much of this during daily use. More specifically, we get used to these innovations quickly, so it doesn’t even seem like we’re dealing with a better structure.

The situation is similar for the Roborock T6. The predecessor was almost impeccable. Perhaps we could mention the MOP feature, which several have objected to, but as you can read above, they have now tried to improve it. In addition, the improvement in the mapping function is also gratifying, but we won’t notice too much of this during use, perhaps with the ability to store multiple maps in the machine’s memory alone.

roborock t6 3rd generation

In our opinion, perhaps even more important is the function of recognizing the rooms, and thus the fact that we can set which room we want to clean for which timed cleaning. You may want to clean some parts of the apartment only once or twice a week, while the central part, the living room, where we stay a lot, needs to be vacuumed daily.

Of course, it is important that the noise generated during operation also decreased, but this is a bit incidental to me, because I started the machine anyway when we left home, so it could work smoothly. And the short-zone cleanings don’t last long enough to be particularly burdened by the noise, which we admit, hasn’t been too loud so far.

maxresdefault

The new brush is perhaps most beneficial for those who keep pets because removing hair and hair has become easier with the T6.

Based on what has been said so far, it is already clear who should invest in the new machine. For those who:

  • they live in a two-story apartment and carry a vacuum cleaner between the levels
  • who live in a large apartment for which they do not want to clean every room every day
  • who keep pets
  • who will take advantage of the more powerful MOP function

Will it be worth buying the S50 after that? If the price will be lower by all means. Just as there is a market for the first series to this day due to the cheaper price, so will the S50. Of course, this requires a perceptible difference in price and the fact that the S50 will remain in production at all.
