Introductory

The last time I was enthusiastic about Redmi’s phones was 2 years ago, I didn’t fall on my stomach since last year’s release. I haven’t even tested the ninth series. Not because it would have been bad, but there was simply no novelty that would have been an improvement over the eights. Moreover…

This year, however, the situation has changed. It made sense to try out the Redmi series because the 10 series not only became more flashy, but also much more percussive. At least for the Redmi Note 10 and Note 10 Pro. The rest will be revealed.

The first test of the new series starts with Redmi Note 10 for me, let’s see what Xiaomi’s bunny lays for us this year!

Packaging, accessories

I only write this paragraph because of the mandatory circles, because it makes no sense anyway. The box is the usual sophistication of the Xiaomi, and the accessories are exactly what we were used to.

We get a silicone backing, glued to the display with a foil, a SIM needle, a 33-watt quick-charge head and a Type-C cable. That's the minimum, but enough!

External

I don’t think manufacturers would have a harder time than designing new phones, as there can only be a display on the front and only a large blank back cover on the back. This needs to be filled with more and more content from series to series, but in a way that is as markedly different as possible from its predecessor and, of course, from competing brands.

Well, at Xiaomi, it pretty much worked out. There wasn’t too much room for change, but for example, the back-to-back camera island design that fit the new series has become beefy. Since the POCO X3, it has become almost the new standard to place the fingerprint sensor not on the back or under the glass, but on the power button.

I think this is good for the manufacturer as well, but in my opinion for us as well. To the manufacturer because you can use essentially the same sensor in all your phones, regardless of whether AMOLED or IPS is the display, and it’s good for us because this solution is noticeably faster than under glass.

Honestly, I’ve never been reconciled to the sensors under the glass. In addition to the noticeable “slowness,” the uncertainty of perception was also annoying. I’ll be sure who doesn’t give the truth in this, but from trying out many dozens of test phones in recent years, I’ve come to this.

What else has changed? There is only one thing left, the speaker grille at the lower and upper edges is no longer made of round holes, but of elongated ellipses. I like it better too.

Other things are essentially unchanged. In the middle of the display, above is the opening of the self-timer camera, above it is a large enough speaker grille for making phone calls.

At the back is nothing but the already mentioned camera island, in which the optics now peak in a diamond shape, at the top the main camera, which has been designed so that the lens looks much larger optically than in reality.

On the right is the power button integrated with the fingerprint sensor, above which is the volume control. Facing the other edge is just the SIM tray, into which you can insert two SIM and one memory card at a time.

At the bottom is a microphone, a jack, a speaker grille and a Type-C connector, and at the top is a second microphone, a second speaker grille and infrared.

In summary, the appearance of the phone has changed compared to its predecessor, by approx. as fresh as the eighth series was in its time. In other words, in the field of design, we have finally managed to bring the mandatory again!

By the end, one more thing is important. The phone has external dimensions of 160.5 x 74.5 x 8.3 mm and weighs 178,8 grams. With regard to these data, it is important to highlight that the device, like the mid-range Xiaomi java introduced this year, has become quite thin and has also been able to be carved out of the crowd.

In practice, this means that this year’s model has lost 9 grams compared to its predecessor, the Redmi Note 199 21 grams, and compared to its 8,9 millimeter thickness, this year’s model has thinned. These are significant values, and it is immediately apparent that we can witness a serious improvement in this area!

Hardware

Redmi Note 10 has also been significantly strengthened in hardware compared to its predecessor. While I was able to be enthusiastic about the Helio G8T chip used in the Redmi Note 90 Pro two years ago to this day, the Helio G9 used in the Redmi Note 85 was a clear disappointment. We can say that it was not difficult to surpass this year.

The Redmi Note 10 included a Snapdragon unit, even the 678. It is a piece made on an 11-nanometer stripe width that has been given an eight-core procit. In the upper cluster there are two Kyro 460 Gold cores working at a maximum GHz of 2,2 GHz, while in the lower cluster we find 6 Kyro 460 Silvers with a maximum clock of 1,7 GHz.

Of course, the phone is available in several memory / storage configurations. 4 / 64- 4/128 and 6/128 GB are the choices, the latter I don't think we'll come across much.

Display

Well, we’ve arrived at one, if not the most important difference between this year’s and previous series, and that’s the display. I think I can say on behalf of everyone that we have been waiting for years for AMOLED to appear in the mid-range as well, and now that has happened.

Anyone who has ever seen an AMOLED display knows how much better it is than IPS. The difference is heaven and earth, even if both the display of the Redmi Note 9 and the AMOLED panel of the new Note 10 have a brightness of 450 nits. Yes, but in addition to AMOLED, there is also 1100 nit peak brightness.

With regard to AMOLED and IPS, the differences in technology must not be forgotten in favor of AMOLED either. Better color fidelity and significant contrast difference give us an incredibly good user experience!

According to the dry numerical data, the display panel has an image diagonal of 6,43 inches (or 0,1 inch smaller than the Note 9 was), a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, and a pixel density of 409 ppi. Added to this is the already mentioned 450 nit brightness with a peak value of 1100 nit, an 83,5 percent display aspect ratio, and a 20: 9 aspect ratio.

Kamerák

Well, if we definitely have to find something that hasn’t changed, we’ve found it here. In the field of cameras, the manufacturer has not made an inch. I’m not saying a millimeter, because that wouldn’t be true for this year’s proc, but in fact, the physical characteristics of the cameras haven’t changed anything.

The self-timer camera is a 13 megapixel, f / 2.5 aperture, wide-angle lens solution with a 1 / 3.06 ″ sensor and 1.12 µm pixel size.

Of the cameras on the back, the main camera has 48 megapixels and an aperture of f / 1.8. Next to it works an 8 mega ultra wide, a 2 mega macro and a 2 mega depth sensor. It’s the same for bone as it was a year ago.

What has changed is that the video resolution can now reach 4K at 30 FPS, but as I wrote, this is not due to the cameras but to the new central unit. Of course, this is not a change to be appreciated yet, I also appreciate the opportunity on the part of magma!

Reviews

As usual, I enclose the results from the standard test programs, along with two other phones to see the differences in the difference.

The performance of the proci, and so of the phone in general, can be said to be that although I would not dare to call it weak, it is not a phone designed for express players. The SOCdragon 3 unit in the POCO M662 is weaker, but the Helio G90T mentioned in the percentages, for example, is more powerful (especially in terms of GPU) than the Snapdragon 10 used in the Redmi Note 678.

Camera tests

I did the testing of the cameras because this is a must do, you would even take the cross water off me if I didn’t. However, there was no point in the thing, at least in the sense that I could have copied the text from any random Xiaomi test where there are such cameras.

The 2 mega macro comes out of my elbow. You can take some cool pictures with it on Facebook, and that’s the end of science. If you want better macros, use the main camera and cut and magnify what you want to see in a macro on your computer.

The 8 megapixel ultra wide angle camera is approx. it is good for the property owner to photograph with him the smallest room in the apartment for sale, which will look double the size in the picture. White balance is still left behind, everything else is forgettable. You can take photos that are blessed with lifeless, zero dynamics, with a lot of sunlight alone to help a little.

The great luck is that the 48 mega main camera can at least be used. Vibrant colors, normal contrast, good line sharpness and dynamics. The software takes out the distortion nicely, HDR also works well. Unfortunately, evening and night photos are not one of the strengths of the phone, so they can be easily integrated into the software.

With these cheaper Xiaomiks, the manufacturer somehow doesn’t really find the right balance between the right detail and a tolerable amount of noise, for the sake of the former, there’s more of the latter than it needs.

Pretty much these are true for videos as well. I will not discuss these separately, look at the test images and the motion pictures made for the test!

Use and experience

This chapter is supposed to be the longest, but right now I don’t really know what to write. We already expect a Xiaomi phone to work flawlessly and smoothly. And Redmi Note 10 is like that.

We get ac standard (Wi-Fi 5) wifi, Bluetooth 5.0, but we still don’t get NFC. There are several satellite systems that we can reach, so there is no problem with navigation as usual.

The operating time was great, even during the testing I had a loose one and a half or two days, even though I pushed enough, took photos, videotaped, navigated, so it was everything. Unfortunately, we don't get a wireless charge with the 5000 mAh battery, but the 33-watt fast charge isn't bad.

The proci is not a power plant, but it is enough to operate the phone and play some games. Equally, the memory and storage are enough, and it's just icing on the cake that if you buy the cheaper 64-megapixel device and want to expand it with a memory card, you don't have to give up the dual SIM either.

The display, on the other hand, is wonderful. The manufacturer stayed at the standard 60 Hz, but that’s why I don’t think anyone will cry. AMOLED is really a miracle, excellent, bright colors, high contrast and brightness, seriously good to look at!

Again, there is nothing to talk about in terms of software. MIUI 12 is perfect (I think), MIUI will get better from version to version, I love it, and for that reason alone, I don’t plan on getting away from Xiaom at any time.

In the field of cameras, feel free to report, there has been no progress in the last two years and that is not good. This, of course, is not only available at Xiaomi, but at virtually every manufacturer. There are no new things or not many. The 48/64/108 megapixel camera triple remained if we look at the main camera, and well, that was exactly the case at the end of 2019.

There is not much space, the entrance level and the bottom of the middle category get 48 megas, the top and the bottom of the middle category get 64 megas, and here 108 come in and out. Expensive handsets are 108 megabytes, and the Mi 11 Pro has a Samsung 50 megabyte sensor, but let’s just say the exception in this case only reinforces the rule of thumb outlined.

Overall, then, the Redmi Note 10 has become a great phone, not only because of the hardware, but also because of its price. Depending on the exchange rate, we already get the 50 GB version for between 55 and 64 thousand forints, and therefore Xiaomi gives a high-class user experience for the money.

Premium exterior, premium display, medium cameras and hardware. That's enough for 50 thousand forints now, but don't believe that it's not enough. It’s enough to hold the Redmi Note 10 in your hand, and when it takes you off your feet too, you realize I’m right!
