Introductory

The air in my apartment in Érd was also dusty, not a little bit (Érd…), so when my guys were born I thought about getting an air purifier. But I thought we were moving anyway, going to the countryside, there would be no need, it would be a waste of money.

We moved and nothing changed. There is dust, not small. Not good for guys either, I’m also very allergic, so there were no more excuses, I bought one. Of course, it was a great help to me in the decision that now, in the promotions before Christmas, prices have fallen sharply.

This price drop in practice meant that the air purifier I bought cost as much as it did two years ago when it was introduced. If you don’t understand exactly what that means, I’ll just mention two things. One is inflation, the other is that for two years the dollar was not above HUF 300, but rather below HUF 250.

So the point is, the price, which can be expressed in dollars, was under the back of the frog, so the price in forints did not get higher either, despite the huge weakening of the domestic currency.

Packaging and accessories

As you will see, this will not be too complicated an article, as it is not the tool to be presented. And this simplicity starts with the packaging.

No, the cardboard, the breakage protection is flawless, not because it’s simple, but because we don’t get anything except the description and a power cord. I note that the description is also superfluous, only a lot of trees are destroyed because of it, if there were only two pages with pictures, that would be a lot to suit.

So the point is, we open the lid of the box, lift out the column-shaped air purifier, pull off the panties, set it in the corner, and….

And in a mentally ill way, we start looking for the power cord in the box. No, I’m looking at the connector on the machine to see how I could replace it because these stupid Chinese forgot the wire on which the power goes. Then it takes about 5 minutes for me to realize there is a cable, but inside the machine, next to the air filter.

Not even stupid Chinese, sorry…

Knowledge and specification

Xiaomi Mi Mijia 2H is the company's cheapest solution for air purification. This is also accompanied by the fact that the abilities of this are the most modest. Well not in air purification, as the filters are essentially the same, you can simply circulate less air through your small body due to its size.

This small body is 52 inches tall anyway, so I wouldn’t dare say it was tiny even that way. Well, let's see the factory data!

Xiaomi recommends this air purifier for rooms between 18 and 31 square meters. Obviously it can be a little bigger as well, but then the efficiency will also be worse. If the apartment or room is much larger, you will find alternatives to this situation at the end of the article.

Also, according to factory data, it can clean 260 cubic meters of air per hour from 0,3 micron or larger particles - commonly known as dust - and 60 cubic meters of formaldehyde, ie it can filter out chemicals, solvents (paint, thinner, etc.). from the air.

Going back to dust filtration, in the current viral situation, I think everyone already knows that the most professional masks (in the affordable category) are 2,5 microns, which promise 1 percent protection in the absence of 2-100 percent. So, the 3 microns can't be said to be bad, since the virus is also a carrier of all kinds, so the dust gets to our lungs on the back, which we can bind in a good part with this machine. That is, it will not only protect against allergies, but can also greatly reduce the chances of viral illness. According to the description, the machine is able to bind nearly 100 percent of the dust.

Going back to the specification, according to the factory value, the generated noise is between 33 and 66 decibels - I will write about this later - and the HEPA filter in it, which is of course replaceable, becomes replaceable in 6-12 months, depending on the dustiness of the apartment.

If you already have a filter. The machine comes with an activated carbon filter, which, if saturated, will allow you to choose formaldehyde, the smooth dust filter, but if you feel good, you can also include the purple antibacterial. Fortunately, filters are not expensive either.

There are two more things to the specification, one is that the power cord is 1,8 meters long and the other is that the Xiaomi air purifier also has a wifi connection, through which we will be able to control it from our phone.

Use, telephone application

Let's start with the commissioning! You may want to install the Mi Home application on your computer first. If we are done with that, let's set the language to English, and look for Hungarian in the region. You can turn on the machine!

By default, after switching on, the new device can be added with the + sign in the upper right corner, if it fails, the button on the back and the power button can be reset by resetting the wifi at the same time.

When we are done, the tool will appear in the list and we can start getting to know each other. On the main screen you can see the value of air purity, temperature and humidity, below the power button, you can choose one of the modes one by one.

The automatic mode is really automatic, controlling the fan speed depending on the amount of dust. The night mode is the quietest - it really is - and with the manual we can control the speed with a slider.

Drag the screen up to get the basic settings, such as timed on and off, turn the warning sound on or off, and adjust the brightness of the indicator LEDs.

Other settings are accessed by clicking on the three dots in the upper right corner. Here you can set rules, for example, if you have a door or window opening sensor, you can set the air cleaner to turn off automatically when you open the window. You can specify which room the machine is in, share control with other users, and update the air purifier software when an update comes.

We are done with that!

The machine can also be controlled manually using the pushbuttons, although only to a limited extent. You can switch it on and off, in the on state, press the power button to switch between modes, and use the button on the back to change the brightness of the LEDs. In manual mode, however, you cannot control the speed in this way, you will need a telephone.

I said it wouldn't be complicated!

I don't say much about how it works. Of course, Xiaomi is famous for its marketing deafness, so they can tell with all sorts of circular sentences that the machine sucks in air on its sides, blows it out at the top, and in the meantime, the air passes through the filter and filters out dirt.

The design is good anyway, there is nothing wrong with that on all four sides, so the air can enter at a 360-degree angle, which comes out on top, so it circulates the air mass in the room a bit. Effective, that's not an issue.

Finally, one more thing, I promised to cover the sound of the machine. It is probably known to many that the decibel value does not increase linearly, but represents the relationship between two values ​​and can be described on a logarithmic scale. That is, if I say that the noise generated is between 33 and 66 decibels, then that does not mean that 33 is the minimum and that point will be twice as loud as the maximum. 0 decibels does not mean that there is no noise, and minus does not mean that there is minus noise. Zero in this case is the reference point (the human hearing threshold), i.e. the minus value means the value below it, and the plus values ​​mean the values ​​relative to zero.

And why am I writing this down? On the one hand, because I haven’t done it in any of my articles, on the other hand, to understand why 33 decibels still seems like a quiet rustle, and why 66 decibels are like vacuuming with a more powerful vacuum cleaner.

This is also true for the air purifier. In night mode, it operates essentially silently. If the air in the room can be said to be clear, we will only hear a barely audible whisper from 2 meters, but if we pull it up to the maximum, it will scream normally.

So, since we can control it remotely if we have internet on our phone, we can do that when we leave the job, we set it to full speed, so by the time we get home we can take it to a minimum or set it to automatic. On the one hand, in the evening, at home, your voice will not disturb you, on the other hand, when we get home, we are guaranteed to enter an apartment with clean air.

Test, experience

Perhaps the best part of an air purifier is the sensor that monitors the cleanliness of the air. Not a small field, that's for sure. When I turned on the machine it showed a value of 45 micrograms per cubic meter, which after an hour dropped to 42 in automatic mode.

It was very rude, however, that it was enough to start cooking in the next room, the value crawled to 80 tabs, and when I opened the cellar door a few moments later the LED on the machine turned red, the value indicator on the phone, and I could see 180. What can I say, now I know that most of the dust gets into the apartment from the basement.

I also noticed that at first, the dust load increased strongly during cleaning and vacuuming, but later, as the days progressed, the dodge became lower and lower. This was probably because the beaten dust was beaten up during cleaning, but as we progressed through time, there was less and less dust in the apartment, so less and less was put back in the air when we cleaned it.

So the point is, the machine, so after two weeks it proved to be very effective!
