Think about this the next time you copy to your phone!

Based on the comments, a relatively common concern is that our computer does not see the storage of our smartphone via the USB connection. The following method solves this problem.

Think about this the next time you copy to your phone!

FTP server

We offer an infinitely simple solution to the situation mentioned above. In addition, the implementation is so practical that you can use it even if there are no gikers in the data connection anyway. It's going to be a slap in the face, really, why would we complicate things unnecessarily, right? The scheme itself is viable on both Android and iOS, and you don’t necessarily have to stick to the program we recommend, as you can find a dozen similar ones in the Play Store. In any case, what we have discovered for this maneuver is free, the Hungarian language - the translation is a bit low - cost - is not scattered with advertisements and can be strongly recommended for beginners. Enough of the threshing, let's get started now!

We will run an FTP server on our android device and then connect to it from the PC. It’s also okay if this sounds a little scary at first, because we’re going to write everything down step by step. First, make sure you’re on a WiFi network, then download an app called WiFi FTP Server from the Play Store - the latest version is currently 1.7.4. You feel good, this will create the server environment, and we will replace file operations on USB with a wireless connection, which happens to be WiFi.

The program can already be used well with the basic settings, so it is not necessary to break everything into it. Simply tap the “start” button and then see what IP address your phone has been assigned. This is 192.168.43.1 for me at the moment, this address should be kept in mind. You will also need the port number to connect, which will be 2221 by default.

Now there is only one step left. Open Windows Explorer (My Computer / This Computer), and then type the IP address shown in the program into the address bar, following the pattern below:

ftp://192.168.43.1:2221

See a miracle, immediately after pressing enter the file system of your phone will appear, so we can conveniently copy, delete, etc. You don't have to worry about the speed of operations either, I have a pretty crappy WiFi router, but even with that, the write speed of 4-5 MB / s is available. When you’re done, close the window and then stop the program - it’s not a deadly sin to not do that, at least on your home (!) Network.

Finally, here are some tips to help you:
  • In the settings of the WiFi FTP server we can rewrite the port number e.g. By 2018, which will then be easier to remember.
  • If you always want to boot to a specific folder, configure the Root Folder option (image above).

  • If you protect your WiFi network with a suitable password, you can safely use the anonymous access option, but it is also possible to protect your device with a specific username / password pair. You can also increase security by using FTP over SSL (FTPS) - picture above.

  • On My Computer, you can also add the server as a network location (a little quick animation above), so you don't always have to enter the address. Another solution is the FTP client, here we have to mention the Filezilla name, which also speaks Hungarian. Navigate to the File menu, Favorite Places, where you can connect with a single click after filling in the appropriate fields.
