TWS Pro - The best AirPods Pro clone test

It looks exactly like the AirPods Pro, its knowledge is okay, and the price is orders of magnitude lower.

Introductory

It is often read in connection with the testing of a product that we have fallen at the sight of one or another ability. The truth, however, is that for those of us who have been testing various products for years (I’ve been doing this slowly for 20 years), it’s quite rare for us to fall short of anything.

It's good, of course, that the speed or the knowledge about a video card, a phone, is impressive, but it doesn't really matter if it's what the paper form, the specification we guessed anyway, or actually the surprise we had. the product causes.

Well, the latter case of dirt is rare already, on one hand I can count how many such hardware I have in my hand in the last one year. From this you can already guess that the earphones called TWS Pro belonged to this group.

Exterior and packaging

Honestly, I’m not particularly interested in Apple products. I will not list my arguments as to why not, there would obviously be plenty of disagreement, and now it is not our intention to clash them. But the fact remains, it took a while before it came to pass that the TWS Pro we got for the test was nothing more than an Apple AirPods Pro clone.

Because of this, I was surprised at how good the packaging was, the cardboard with the pictures, and so in general, how collected the whole pack was. Of course, now that I know they’ve actually copied the Apple design, there’s nothing left to surprise anymore, because the apple company certainly can’t be blamed for one thing, and that is what garnish they give their stuff.

Well, the packaging of the TWS Pro, the accessories in the box, is essentially the same bone that Apple AirPods Pro customers get. The cable, which has a Type-C connector on one end and a Lightning connector on the other, a holder with different ear pads, are all just that. What’s different is that we should basically get several silicone plugs of different sizes, and whatever I look at, they’re all the same size in this package.

The “similarity” is not over here. If you remove the earphone charging / storage box, the protective cover is the same as for the original AirPods Pro, and if you open the box, you will notice that the earphones are exactly the same. I don’t feel the plastic in the box or tabs is any different from the original. More specifically, the original wasn’t in my hands yet, but there were several Apple products already, and they didn’t look any better, or it didn’t look any worse.

So far, we’re basically there to even have an original AirPods Pro in our hands. The point, of course, is the quality of the ears, but about that a little later.

The paper form, that is, what TWS Pro knows

The headset is located at the Chinese-based BES (Bestechnic), a highly recognized audio-SoC supplier. The company specializes in the production of TWS inserts, and they are really good at this, we can find such inserts in the products of quite a few well-known manufacturers. Just to help you understand the quality of their products, our partners include Harman, Sony, Xiaomi, Oppo, Huawei and Google. The latter company mentions that they have built the BES chip into their ear, which is intended directly as an opponent of Apple AirPods, and if Google says that this chip is suitable to compete, it certainly is.

I don't know exactly which chip they have in TWS Pro (if I had to guess, I'd vote for the BES3000), but it's definitely a Bluetooth 5.0 (+ EDR) version. Bluetooth profiles include what you need, including HSP, HFP, A2DP, and AVRCP. There is no need to think big behind these acronyms, they are essentially the technologies that make a Bluetooth headset what they can be used as a headset, for example.

More interesting, for example, is that TWS Pro supports the AAC codec, which greatly improves audio quality with the right phone.

According to factory data, the frequency range is between 2,402 GHz and 2,480 GHz, the sensitivity is 108 decibels, and the impedance is 32 Ohms. The earbuds have a 35 mAh battery (each) and the dock has a 300 mAh battery. According to the specification, this provides power for 4,5 hours of operation, while in standby mode they promise 80 hours of standby time. The latter data is also identical to the data of the original AirPods Pro.

The earphones are quite tiny (just like the original) and weigh just 3,6 grams. Despite their small size and small weight, they have a relatively large membrane with exactly 8 millimeters.

Use and experience

After that, it probably won't surprise anyone that the use and installation of the earpiece is exactly the same as in the case of the original AirPods Pro. If you have an iPhone, we open the box cover next to the Bluetooth-enabled phone, and the phone immediately indicates that an AirPods Pro earpiece has been found. Then we tap on the connection label, press the button on the back of the docking box (this is just like the original), and the connection is established. Moreover, TWS Pro also takes the name of the owner of the phone, which means that in my case, for example, it would be referred to as Zoltán's AirPods Pro headset. If you want to rewrite this in the tab properties, you can give it any name you like.

If you want to connect to an Android phone, the connection procedure is no different, but in this case, the device will not appear on the phone automatically. We open the cover, look for the earpiece among the Bluetooth devices, press the button on the back of the box, and when the notification LED starts flashing white, connect the stuff to the phone. As I wrote above, if your phone supports it, you can also enable the use of the AAC codec.

If we look at the specification of the original AirPods, we can see that we get a lot from pressure equalization to the weight of the sensors, i.e. it not only sounds good, but also has service with a dent. Fortunately, we don’t have to give up some of these in the case of the clone either.

The control of the TWS Pro is the same as the control of the AirPods Pro. The downward-facing stems of the tab have a flatter surface (both on the right and left) that you can touch to control things. One-touch answer a call or, if you are listening to music, stop the music. End one more touch call or, if you are listening to music, start it. Two taps the music skips forward a song, and three taps rewind a song. Finally, another option, if you keep your finger on the touch-sensitive interface, is Siri for iPhone and Google Assistant for Android.

The controls are firm with the touch, there is no habit of “accidentally” stopping the music for example, and as a help, when we touch, we also hear a soft little click in our ears.

Convenient use is also facilitated by the fact that there is a sensor on the inside of the earcups that goes into the earcup. It detects when you take out or put the headset in your ear. For example, if you listen to music, the music stops playing, so the battery does not drain unnecessarily.

And, then now comes the point, that is, that is about the clone!

I mentioned the term fallen state in the introduction, and now, in this section, we got to what it was all about. I've had an AirPods clone before, though it was a pretty cheap piece. Well, I wasn't at all surprised that it was unforgettably crappy. I also started from this in the case of TWS Pro. However, now I got something completely different.

Now comes the part where I paired it, put it in my ear, and started right away with a good little pounding Motorhead right away. Maybe I also wanted to prove to myself the thesis that these earplugs are not suitable for listening to music. Then it turned out that but.

Obviously, the TWS Pro doesn’t compete with a speaker, nor with a headphone with a larger driver that covers the entire ear, but what really came out of this bit was really out of my mind. I almost dare say it has bass in it, but really. Listening at high volume moves my eardrum to such an extent that I get quite a real bass feel. What’s nice is that it doesn’t distort even at full volume. Not a little. So, my first attempt to humiliate me with dust really didn’t come in.

After that, I approached it a little differently. I have a well-selected music package for testing. There’s a bit of electronic music in it, specifically a number from Yello, there’s a little subtly whispering that is played by a team called Talk Talk (unfortunately the singer is no longer between us, though…), rock from Motorhead and Guns running through the membrane (put just enter Welcome to the Jungle and you will go crazy). With this package, you can also test the high mid and low ranges, as well as the intelligibility of speech.

I just have nothing to do with it. Of course, the following sentences should be handled in the context of Bluetooth earphones, I am not racing the TWS Pro with my 120 cm speaker. So the point is. The treble is incredibly clear, I tested this in the Yello issue. The mid-range gives full, appropriately hollow sounds, no trace of box sounds. As I wrote, there’s even a lot of deep, quite surprisingly good effects on the bass guitar’s drumming blade, the drums, so frankly really.

What is most surprising, however, is the overall effect of all this. The different sounds aren’t overdriven, meaning the treble isn’t good because it’s overdriven, and above all else, the cymbals are there for the cicers, the deep doesn’t want to push the mid range too hard, showing that I know that too. The sound image is completely uniform, harmonious, and perhaps this gives the whole point that one does not examine (or just because of the test) how beautiful this or that sound is, but simply enjoys it all together.

For this to really be the case, we need to make sure that the ear is properly in our ear. It’s no surprise, let’s say, if the pillows don’t close, the little air you can move will no longer push our eardrums. Luckily, the shape is good — Apple invented it, of course, is good — the earbuds are weightless, and the non-factory-made silicone plugs are soft enough, yet flexible enough to be comfortable to wear and sound good.

Summary

Before you think that trying to change the TWS Pro has changed my mind, I have to make you bitter, I still say you don’t have to listen to high quality music with a Bluetooth plug. Even a mid-range wired headphone is much better than a wireless plug-in at any price. Let's not talk about normal speakers.

So let’s stick to the fact that the plug-in earbuds fit exactly the quality that the radio does or doesn’t give God a Spotify gives.

Now, though, I have to evaluate the TWS Pro AiPods clone, and that’s much better if I compare it to similar products. I’ve had quite a few pieces around $ 20-30 in the last year, and I haven’t found any of them that I would consider acceptable as well as my own expectations. An example might be Redmi AirDots, which I can bring up. This earpiece is praised by many, it’s also cheap, and, well, it’s really not bad for the price, but… If you have the money for it, do so much good with yourself that you don’t want to listen to music on a $ 20 gadget!

I’ve been using the Xiaomi Hybrid Pro’s wired, dual-driver ears for a long time, which I’ve been completely happy with so far. Of course, it is also “only” a ten thousand forint piece, but I always said, and I still consider it, that it is very good compared to its price. But, now it's because of a Bluetooth headset that cost less than 4 forints more, I thought about replacing it, because I can't find the bass in it. Or maybe I should leave it to hell with your wire from now on and simply put the TWS Pro in my ear.

I know it sounds weird, but with my view of petrified, wired earphones, it’s so sharply confronted that I have to get used to the idea as well.

And my final conclusion is that in the case of TWS Pro, let’s quickly forget what you want to look like. Don’t look at it as “just” an AirPods clone, let’s not deal with that. We simply use it as a well-equipped, noname, or rather OEM headset. If we do that, we will have a really worthwhile piece for less than 14 thousand forints, which (not by chance) will even look good.
