Computers with the AMD Turion 25 processor, famous for their 35 and 64 W power consumption, were officially launched, with the undisguised goal of calling the Intel Centrino platform into battle.

Let’s take a look at three models now, all of which will be available for purchase in a week or two. AMD's latest headunits fill a very important hole in the company's product range: so far they have not been able to provide a truly competitive model for thin and light systems, ie systems under 3 kg. Today's Turion, on the other hand, is small enough and cool enough to expect very serious success, let's see four products based on it right away.
The Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo A7645 aims to offer a high-performance system that is affordable, yet extremely easy and long-lasting. It is fitted with the fastest member of the 25W Turion 64s, the 1,80 GHz MT-32. Of course, it has a built-in wireless network controller, and its optical drive can also burn DVDs. It has three USB 2.0 ports, a FireWire port, a D-sub output, a quad-function card reader, a 32-bit PC Card slot, a line-in port, a speaker output, a microphone output, and an S-Video output.
It is not intended to serve gamers, so the SiS M760, which is otherwise sufficient for almost everything, provides graphical display. Up to 1 GB of DDR SDRAM can be inserted in two SO-DIMM slots. Its 15-inch traditional 4: 3 display supports a maximum resolution of 1024 × 768. With a size of 333 × 272 × 25,3 / 35,7 mm, it can be said to be quite pleasant, but its weight of 2,75 kg is already approaching the limits of the category.
Our next contender is the ASUS A6K, which has already been available for the Intel Centrino platform. Its special features are the 15,4-inch widescreen display, the built-in GeForce Go 6200 graphics controller, and the also built-in webcam, which operates in fairly high quality, even at a resolution of 1024 × 768. A perpetual problem for notebook users is not being able to put a webcam that is already difficult to use on the go for a possible video chat, ASUS can help with that as well. In terms of weight and size, it belongs to the largest within its category: 2,8 kg and 354 × 284 × 35,2 mm, but this does not necessarily have a disadvantage, as it is much more comfortable to use than its smaller counterparts.
It features a wireless network, SiSM756 chipset, the already mentioned GeForce Go 6200 graphics controller with 64 MB of local memory, and up to 2 GB of 333 MHz DDR SDRAM support. Four USB 2.0, one TV-out and one card reader stand out, but of course the usual D-sub and PS / 2, as well as audio connectors. It also comes with a DVD burner, and its special feature is that it also supports the higher-powered 35W Turion 64s, so it can be up to a 2,00 GHz version. The buttons on the front of the device allow you to listen to music on the optical drive without turning it on.
The MSI Megabook S270 is a true little gem, with a 12,1-inch, 1280 × 800-pixel widescreen display that determines its size: we’re dealing with a really real thin and light solution. It is only 2 cm thick and weighs 1,8 kg, so we can really take it with us anytime, anywhere. Its physical safety is ensured by the magnesium-aluminum vase.
Despite its small size, its cooling system is excellent, as it can also serve 35 W central units. The ATI Xpress 200 chipset is responsible for the graphic display and other environmental tasks, and we can add up to 2 GB of 400 MHz DDR SDRAM to it. It also features PC Card, “Mini-PCI” for WLAN and Bluetooth, as well as a three-functional card reader. In addition, the usual connectors can be found on it, there are three USBs on this copy.
If you want a Turion 8 system based on the VIA K800N64, take a look around BenQ's house first, as their R22 series also has a member built on it. Its graphics controller VIA Unichrome Pro, with a weight of 2,78 kg and a size of 326 × 277 × 22-36,7 mm, can be the opponent of the first two models presented, otherwise it can be said to be a completely average system. It features a built-in wireless network, four USB 2.0 networks, S-video and D-sub connectors.
