Introductory

I'm hooked on electric bikes. I can't help it, it's slowly becoming a passion for me, like laser engraving, motorcycling and writing articles. The problem is that I don't have much time for so many hobbies anymore, and it's lucky that writing articles and testing electric bikes is also my job, otherwise the family would starve.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 1

When they asked me if I wanted to try SAMEBIKE's new 27,5-inch MTB, I obviously didn't say no, because I was already hooked based on the pictures. The shape is quite wild, due to the 27 and a half inch wheel size, I won't even look out of place on it, moreover, SAMEBIKE recently seems to have started to pay attention to the fact that the exterior is not everything, more and more demanding customers need some interior content as well.

So SAMEBIKE deserves my special attention, because it stands out more and more from the sea of Chinese bicycle manufacturers.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 2

I don't want to spoil the joke, but the SAMEBIKE MY275-FT did not disappoint. It's a very well put together bike that's a pleasure to ride, and what's more, it's not a battery from some no-name manufacturer, but EVE's cells. In SAMEBIKE's press materials, it is not by chance that they say that they are automotive-grade cells, because EVE also produces cells for Tesla, and in fact, they have already signed a contract with BMW, they will be the primary battery cell suppliers in Europe from 2025.

So the SAMEBIKE made a good move when it bought the battery for its bike from the supplier of Tesla and BMW.

Unpacking, assembly, accessories

The box felt surprisingly light when I first picked it up. I also looked at the weight of the bike afterwards, and interestingly, it wasn't extremely light, rather it was normal. Everything weighs 26,5 kilos, including FAT bikes and 30+ bikes without exception. So it's understandable that it felt easy.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 3

The usual things were waiting in the box. MY275-FT with front wheel and steering horn removed, steering column turned, seat removed and pedals removed. The installation is pretty much the same, the usual.

First I screw up the steering horn, then I adjust the steering rod and tighten the screws. Next, I remove the spacer of the front fork, which is inside so that the two legs of the fork cannot be compressed during transport even without wheels.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 4

The next step is the installation of the wheel, here you have to try to work carefully, because it is not lucky if the front wheel falls out at a speed of 30 kilometers per hour. Fortunately, it's not a big adventure.

The last thing left to do is to screw on the fenders, the front light, and fit the seat in place. If you are satisfied with this, then you need to inflate the wheels and check the brakes, the transmission, and check the screws to see if anything is loose. so a thorough inspection must be carried out.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 5

When that's done, you can go to the first test round!

Among the accessories we find the usual things. A charger, of course with an EU plug cable, a description for use, a set of tools to assemble it, as well as a front and a rear fender. We don't get anything else, but I don't think we need to. Also, a rear light would be nice, but for some reason this is as rare as a white raven on Chinese bikes. However, I would be satisfied with a battery-operated or rechargeable lamp that is not connected to the bicycle's electrical system.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 6

What is perhaps even more interesting is that in the case of the SAMEBIKE MY275-FT, the battery is not installed in the bike, but is delivered in a separate (but not in a separate box) shockproof package.

External and paper form

I prefer to discuss these two things together, because the data would make us jump from one place to another, or vice versa.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 7

So, the Samebike MY275 is 180 cm long and 108 cm high, the highest point being the top of the steering column. The seat height can be changed between 84 and 98 cm. According to the factory data, the highest point of the seat is only 89 cm, which I found strange, so I measured it instead. I mean, the factory data is wrong, pulling the seat tube to the indicated maximum, 98 is 89.

The weight, as I already wrote, is 30 kilos. The frame is of course made of aluminum, the battery is hidden in the frame. Most manufacturers have already launched such machines on the market this year, which is very advantageous from an aesthetic point of view, but due to the smaller size, the capacity will also be smaller, to be precise 10,5 Ah.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 8

The battery manufacturer says it has 48 volts and 499 Wh. I already wrote above that the battery comes from a well-known manufacturer. Of course, the name EVE doesn't mean much to the layman, but those who are familiar with the automotive industry must have already met them, because as I wrote, they also make cells for Tesla and will work for BMW as well.

Another important element of the electrical system is the motor. It also comes from a noname manufacturer, AVANDA is a well-known name in the "industry". The rated power of the SAMEBIKE MY275-FT motor is 500 watts.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 9

According to the manufacturer's data, the maximum speed of the bicycle with drive is 25 kilometers per hour, the maximum distance in electric mode is given as 20-40 kilometers, if you pedal, you can expect a range of 40-80 kilometers on a single charge.

Another important fact is that, according to the manufacturer, we will be able to climb a 25-degree incline with the machine, as well as the fact that the maximum load capacity is 150 kilograms, and it is also important that it has IP54 protection against dust and water, so it cannot be used in a pool either. cycling, maximum if there is no water in it. But there is no joke in it.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 10

I still have the computer. It has a colorful display, the brightness can be selected in 5 levels. We can see all the important data on it, the gear, the current speed, but we can also see the maximum speed and the average, as well as the total distance traveled and partial distances.

You can turn on the computer (and of course the bike) on the console on the left, there is also a + and a - button, as well as the info button, which you can use to change the displayed data on the display.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 11

We have a very loud horn, and we also have a front light, which can be turned on and off by pressing and holding the + button.

Experiences

Lately I've had a lot of powerful bikes, ones that can take you up small hills in pure electric mode and go at speeds of 35-45 kilometers per hour in pure electric mode. I expected the SAMEBIKE MY275-FT to be different. On paper, it's not weak either, but 500 watts is still not 750 or 850, as with the bikes tested later.

The fact is that I was not mistaken, the SAMEBIKE can also take you uphill, but for this you also need to turn the pedal, and the cyclist also needs to invest a little energy. The bottom line, the most important word here is little.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 12

The SAMEBIKE MY275-FT is a bicycle that needs to be pedaled, and the motor will be suitable to help with this. In other words, it won't go up the hills without winding, but if you really want to ride a bike, and you didn't buy a pedal machine out of an alibi instead of an auxiliary motor, then you won't have any problems, in fact, 500 watts is enough to make you go a little crazy in the saddle, and things like that take on things you wouldn't even try with a traditional bike anyway.

For example, I went down some stairs during the test, but I wouldn't have thought of going up if there wasn't 500 watts of extra power in the rear wheel.

The manufacturer says that the motor is 500 watts, but it is not very noticeable after the start. When I put the bike together and rolled out for the first test lap to check the brakes and the shifter, I realized that 500 watts really isn't here. I had to go for a bigger ride the next day to realize that it really is there, it just comes out much more cultured than the cheaper two-wheelers.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 13

This means that when you start turning and the engine starts, the machine does not want to run out from under you right away, but the torque increases steadily. At some point around 20 km/h, you will get everything, and it will last as long as the transmission ratio allows (this is about 32-35 km/h with comfortable gear).

For this, of course, you will need the fifth gear and to set the maximum speed higher. This can be a maximum of 40 kilometers per hour, but this bike cannot go that much. The engine might still be able to handle it, but the transmission ratio is not enough.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 14

I'll come back to what it's like to actually ride SAMEBIKE's two-wheeler, but first we have to talk about another important thing, and this is the usual question, which is what I'm currently testing, an electric bike or a moped.

The interesting thing is that there is no clear answer for this bike.

As I have already written in several articles, the EU sets quite strict conditions under which conditions an electric bicycle can be used as a bicycle and under which conditions it can be used as a moped. The SAMEBIKE MY275 is a moped by default, as you take it out of the box, it is true that in order to be able to participate in traffic legally with it, it needs a rear light.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 15

It's a moped because its motor puts out 500 watts and because it has a throttle. For this reason, it is not an electric bike, but it can be turned into an electric bike in seconds! How can you do this?

You have to do several things. The first is to disconnect the throttle. It's simple, you disconnect the connector at the cable leading to the throttle, and the throttle doesn't even work anymore. The other is that you limit the maximum speed in the computer to 25 kilometers per hour. The third is that you have also reduced the voltage value assigned to the different speed levels in the computer in order to reduce the maximum output.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 16

Pop and pop, you've turned your moped into an electric bike in 3 easy steps. The police cannot bind you, but there is the possibility to undo the changes at any time. Let's say you raise the voltage values on a more difficult terrain to get more power and torque!

I think that this ability to transform and become essential is very important and can be a very important argument when buying.

If the computer settings have already been discussed, I will say a few words about this too!

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 17

That it looks good is a fact. You can see everything quite well on the large and colorful display, although if the sun shines directly on it, it's less good. We see a lot of things on it, the usual values, such as the current speed, the average speed, the total distance traveled and since switching on, but there is a small part here where we see how many watts the engine is putting out. So the computer worked for me, and the icing on the cake is that it also has USB charging, that is, we get a USB A connector, through which e.g. we can charge our phone.

However, its real interest is not this, but the fact that the settings menu is also completely graphical. Here you don't have to guess which point is for what, you can easily and simply customize the bike. You can adjust the sensitivity of the pedal sensor or the speed above which the assistance should be activated. Of course, you can also set how many kilometers per hour the assistance should work, and as I wrote, you can also fine-tune the voltage values for the gears.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 18

What does this fine-tuning mean? It means that you have 5 gears, which have different maximum speeds and different accelerations. Of course, the degree of acceleration largely depends on how much torque the engine provides and how much power it delivers in the given gears. Among the computer settings, there is one where you can assign different voltage values to these stages, and with these voltage values you can control the engine performance.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 19Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 20Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 21

For example, you can set the voltage to be lower in stages two and three, you can use this for urban spraying, in which case less power is consumed and the acceleration will be less dynamic. At gears four and five, you can increase the values, and then on these gears the climb will be better, the acceleration will be greater, and in return the bike will consume more.

So in the computer you can really customize essentially all important abilities, and this is again a rare good function, which can even decide whether you also decide on the bike or not.

What is my overall opinion of the SAMEBIKE MY275-FT and what is it like to ride it?

The most important thing is that it is a very well put together bike, which, by the way, is also very attractive. Maybe even more so in real life than in the pictures. The frame shape in itself suggests serious dynamism. The paintwork is cool, the welds are also nice, so it really gives a real quality feel.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 22

In accordance with recent trends, the battery is already hidden in the frame, so it looks much more bicycle-like than those on which the battery is simply screwed onto the frame.

The seat is comfortable, but sporty (but if it's not comfortable for you, then a wider one costs 5-6 thousand forints in Chinese stores), the brakes and the gearbox are perfect even without any adjustments, the suspension strut of the front fork can be turned off and on, and the suspension is also fine , soft enough to be able to drive even on a dirt road in relative comfort, without shaking our wrists.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 23

Moreover, if I'm already writing about the softness of the front strut, I have to note that it might be a little too soft for asphalt, so it's especially useful that you can close it. The SAMEBIKE MY275-FT is a true all-round bike because of this, since with the closed shock absorber, you will be comfortable riding on asphalt and bike paths, while with the open shock absorber, you can also venture out on easier terrains.

As I wrote in the first sentence of the experience chapter, the SAMEBIKE MY275-FT is a normal bicycle, it helps you to cycle, you don't have to overload your knees and hip joints, but it is not good to use instead of a motorcycle. In this way, it is more of a sport than a means of transport, but of course this does not mean that e.g. it could not be used for work.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 24

What is not very steely is the battery and the available battery range in purely electric mode. If I had found such a battery in my last electric scooter test, I would have strongly objected to it, but I will not do so here, because, as I wrote, this is a wheeled bike, where the motor and the battery are only needed to help you through more difficult situations. If you don't have one, you can easily use it as a normal bicycle, even without assistance.

If I owned it and wanted to use it long term, there are three things I would change about it. One is that I would replace the brake master cylinders with hydraulic ones. There is a version of this where the power to the pistons is carried by a cable from the lever, but the working cylinders and, with the working cylinders, the brake pads are already pressed onto the disc by liquid. It is easy to replace and the price of parts is a penny.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 25

The other is the pedal, which I would replace with a better metal pedal. Better understand that this is also a maximum HUF 5-6 thousand item from China. The third is the rear light, which is not here either, and I think it is essential for our safety.

For my part, I wouldn't bother with the switch. The Tourney is a bottom-shelf product among Shimano derailleurs, but it's still a Shimano, not some noname crap. If it gets a lot of wear and tear over the years, I might buy something better.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 26

Cycling, on the other hand, is really a pleasure with the machine. As I wrote, after the first few hundred meters I got off the saddle a bit disappointed, it took a longer ride to realize how good the structure is.

The first thing that is important is that if you turn off the assistance, it will still be usable. In other words, you can drive it easily, you can comfortably drive it around at a speed of around 15 km/h. If you switch the individual gear so that it does not consume a lot of electricity, the limit is at a speed of 18 kilometers, then the engine switches off. This means that in this case, by adding a little extra power with the wheel, you can drive for long distances at a speed of 19-20 kilometers.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 27

I think this is a really comfortable hiking pace, if you want to look around, enjoy the scenery, the fresh air, you won't go any faster than this.

If, however, you start to switch the power up, then the power will come. As I wrote above, you can easily overcome moderate climbs, you can even climb stairs (but not too steep ones), so you can seriously relieve your muscles and joints.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 28

Of course, this extra energy is not only useful for making it easier to go uphill, but also for going a little wild. Even on more difficult terrain, you can switch to a higher speed, tease, and get a little adrenaline if you want.

In other words, the SAMEBIKE MY275-FT is a two-faced bike from this point of view, since you can switch from a leisurely bicycle tour to a wild off-road tour in a matter of seconds, if you like. The nice thing about it is that it stands tall in both tasks.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 29

Summary

The SAMEBIKE MY275-FT is not the most powerful bike I've had this year, but it is the best in terms of feel and quality, and perhaps the most beautiful, although the latter is a matter of taste, I like it. In terms of assembly quality, perhaps only the 1000-watt Laotie tested last year (and used since then) or the ADO tested before can come close, but they represent another HUF 500+ thousand price category.

I really like the little attentions, such as the pedestrian mode, which, unlike other brands, cannot be turned off and on, but is activated by pressing the - (minus) button, and is only active as long as the button is pressed, so the bike does not want to run away.

Push your limits! - SAMEBIKE MY275-FT e-bike test 30

It's a little thing, but such little things add spice to the use, for example, when the light is turned on, the computer display dims, that is, it automatically switches to night mode. I love little attentions like this.

I really like the voltage setting already described above, with which everyone can really adjust the power delivered at the speed levels to their own usage habits, this is a rare treasure in this price category!
