Samsung: The BD-P1 is 1000 month late

The Far Eastern manufacturer announced today that the launch of their first desktop Blu-ray player will be delayed.

 

Samsung Electronics said the U.S. release of the BD-P1000, scheduled for May 23, has been postponed to June 25, giving testers and engineers the opportunity to release a more mature version out of their hands.

Toshiba has already begun shipping HD-DVD drives in Japan, but even with this delay, Samsung could be the first desktop maker in the BD camp, as Sony only wants to come out in July. BDP-S1with, a Panasonic DMP-BD10 and it only arrives in September.

The detailed specifications of the Samsung BD-P1000 are not yet known, but one thing is for sure: unlike the Toshiba product, this device already supports 1920 × 1080 HD resolution with progressive image refresh (of course, it can also scale PAL / NTSC DVDs to 1080p -ig). In addition, you will find memory card slots for mini SD and Memory Stick Pro, which allow you to view your images on our high-resolution display. 

The expected price of the BD-P1000 in the US will be around $ 1000, which is approx. double the cheapest Toshiba HD DVD player.

Just as a reminder, they are supporters of the two opposing camps from which we can expect devices in the early days: Blu-ray: Sony, Pioneer, Panasonic (Matsushita), Samsung, Philips, and HD-DVD: Toshiba and NEC, while LG and HP both format.
