Proscenic M7 Pro - laser, robotic vacuum cleaner for 70 thousand forints
It was a real time travel to test the machine, but I didn’t want to get to know it by accident.
We testers have a good thing to do. Not always, but usually. Manufacturers are trying to show off their best machines to see where science is going. That's good, but let's face it, for the majority of buyers it's maximum technological curiosity, they won't buy it because they stay with us, damn expensive high-end machines.
I’ve been trying for a while to get a vacuum cleaner from somewhere that everyone will be happy with, but I don’t have to leave our pants in the store because of it either. The Proscenic M7 Pro is just that, and even more so, because you can even have a self-emptying dock with it, making you feel almost like a top vacuum cleaner (I note it's completely pointless to buy next to it).
As I mentioned in the introduction, it was time to test this machine on a time travel. Well, not too long, we're only going back in time in about two or three years, and this journey is already showing in terms of packaging and accessories.
The box has not been over-designed according to the older trends, let's see what kind of box they arrive in today, e.g. Dreame machines. Luckily, I don’t feel this anti-design thing is a disadvantage, we’ll come across the box once in a while when we unpack the vacuum cleaner.
In terms of accessories, however, this time travel is especially positive, because while nowadays, some manufacturers have to hunt for accessories, in the case of Proscenic we get everything. There’s a spare HEPA filter, two spare side brushes, 10 replaceable mops for the MOP, and icing on the cake with the remote control, which really thins a lot lately.
In addition to these, of course, there are the usual accessories, ie the machine also has two side brushes, a combined water and dust tank, a filling / docking station and an external power supply. And of course the vacuum cleaner itself. So, there's something to unpack from this box!
Typical laser robotic vacuum cleaner. In short, that's it. There are no extra sensors, huge windows with cameras, and nothing else that can be said to be extra. Proven engineering is everywhere.
On the roof there is a tower of a laser unit, front and side 3 infrared sensors, and also infrared sensors at the bottom, which prevent them from falling off the stairs. Of course, we also get a collision sensor in advance.
What doesn't seem to be the case is that these machines also have a sensor on the wheels that measures the number of turns, from which they can calculate the distance traveled very accurately. All in all, no less than 24 sensors work in the vacuum cleaner to collect as much and accurate data as possible about our apartment.
At the top of the machine we find the power and Home buttons, but interestingly, as usual, there is no hinged lid under which the dust container lives. This is because, as I wrote above, a self-emptying dock is available for the machine, which is why the dust container has been placed on the bottom of the machine so that the dock can sniff the accumulated dirt out of the container.
If we turn the machine on its back, we can discover more interesting things. Unlike most Xiaomi vacuum cleaners, there are not one but two side brushes. The other is that there are not two but four of the contacts for the dock. Again, the latter can only be traced back to the fact that we can buy a self-emptying dock instead of the traditional one.
There is no other specialty. The mounting of the MOP is the usual, the size and position of the threshold climbing wheels is the usual, just as the first planetary wheel is in the usual place.
If I had to evaluate the materials used, I would say it is flawless. Here and there it feels like we don't have a Xiaomi in our hands, but the differences are nuanced, and maybe it's just me, the tester, who gets a glimpse of these differences.
I have no problem with the design, a real classic laser robot from 2019!
A lot of things have already been deduced from what has been described so far, but let’s take a list of abilities in headlines!
The suction power of the machine is 2700 Pa, which is only enough for the middle class today. The battery has a capacity of 5200 mAh, which is approx. It can be fully charged in 4,5 hours and can vacuum up to 160 square meters on a single charge. Importantly, for ECO mode, a maximum suction power of 100 square meters is realistic.
The strength of the vacuum can of course be adjusted from the application, but there is also a carpet sensor which, if not using the highest gear, will rewind the speed when the machine arrives on the carpet.
Part of the suction power is that the Proscenic machine, like the Xiaomi machines, is powered by the Japanese NIDEC carbon-free engine. This is definitely good news for durability!
Orientation is, of course, done with the help of a laser. The machine maps the apartment in real time and, of course, calculates the cleaning route in real time. According to the description, Map Management 4.0 works in it, which I have no idea what is better than, say, 3.0.
Importantly, according to the manufacturer, something called a Multi Layer Map is also available. Translated into Hungarian, this means multi-layer mapping, ie we can store separate maps for the floors of the house. Unfortunately I couldn’t try this, I had to realize we bought a house that was too small without floors.
The Proscenic M7 Pro can, of course, mop up, meaning you can do a wet wipe instead. To do this, we get a 110-milliliter water tank with the manufacturer’s name bionic water tank. I have no faint purple steam to make a water tank bionic.
That's pretty much the point, I don't go into the usual things like fall protection, they're already natural in a vacuum cleaner like this, it's not worth mentioning.
For robotic vacuum cleaners, it is very important that the manufacturer adds the appropriate application. Well, it almost went by here. To be honest, it sucks properly, but I'm the tester so he can't suck you anymore.
The manufacturer recommends the Proscenic Home application for download in the description provided with the machine. Well, forget that, the thing is already stuck to create the user, it keeps us happy with a constant HTTP 400 error message. I loved it, tried it with more phones, mobile internet, more wifi, nothing helped.
I turned to support and got another link to another program. Its name is smoothly Proscenic. You will know this in the store from the fact that its icon is not green but blue, as you can see in the picture below.
Even that wasn't a complete success because the registration code didn't appear in my Gmail account. Interestingly, however, he came to another account without a hitch. That’s when I was finally able to create the new user, and from then on, everything went like a hoop!
The Proscenic application is exemplary anyway. There is nothing worse than a Xiaomi solution. Everything is understandable, not complicated. Map editing goes fleet, although I note the machine itself can figure out exactly where one room starts and where the other ends. This is also the case where there is no door or threshold, there is only one oversized door opening.
What was honestly surprising was that the mapping was also surprisingly accurate and detailed. In my past experience, the cheaper machines had plenty of shortcomings in this area, but the Proscenic was down before the hat. Feel free to dare to mean that you are approaching the usual and properly rated Xiaomi level!
So in summary! The application of Proscenic is very successful, the map editing, the map management and the timing of the cleanings are all available through it. We can see where the vacuum cleaner is going if it gets stuck and we can’t find a warning sound.
There is a zone cleaning, there is a strong cleaning (in this case the machine cleans twice), there is a no go zone, we find a spot cleaning where we can send the machine to a small area to clean it thoroughly.
The only thing that worked out pretty lame is naming and demarcating the different rooms. We can do this by designating areas on the map and saying this area is the living room, this is the other the kitchen, the third is the hallway. Unfortunately, the selection can contain up to 6 corner points per room, so for irregularly shaped rooms, it’s hopeless to pinpoint the corners exactly.
It's not entirely part of the app, but it's still related to the remote control, so I'll put it here!
So, as I indicated in the accessories, there is also a remote control that looks at approx. is the same as any random TV box or soundbar controller. Of course, the buttons on the buttons are marked differently and we can control other things with it.
It may not surprise anyone that we don’t have access to map features, but we can get to the basics. Start, return, suction power control, joystick function and the like are available.
The first thing I thought about was how good it would be if, say, the net goes away and we’re standing in front of the vacuum cleaner and can’t start. Then during the test I noticed that I no longer reached for the phone to start and stop, but for the remote control. Then when I wanted to steer the plane into the nursery, I really enjoyed the joystick buttons that I used to navigate like a remote-controlled car to the kids.
So, I had to realize that the remote control is a good thing, I’ve just gotten used to it a bit. It’s always at hand, the basic stuff works on it, and if we clean up on time when we go to work, it’s much easier to reach for the remote than for the phone.
I'm giving a big red dot for this remote!
It was no accident that I mentioned time travel at the beginning of the article, because all along, I had the feeling that I was not in 2022, but in 2019, 2020. According to the expectations at the time, this machine would have been at the bottom of the upper category, or in 2020 perhaps more at the top of the middle category.
The knowledge, the materials used, all evoked the condition of 2-3 years ago!
Before you think it's a problem, let's point it out, it's not! It’s just that what was close to the peak 2-3 years ago is no longer that. It hasn't gotten any worse, in fact, we'd rather enjoy the benefits of it, because what was in the hundreds of thousands category 2-3 years ago is only 70 today. Even so, the exchange rate of the forint is below the frog's bottom.
I have no objection to the quality of the cleaning with the machine. Perhaps it is worth noting that with this machine it is still worth unloading the discarded games, books, etc., because there is no camera or 3D laser sensor here yet to detect the fly ash on the floor.
The only real, serious disadvantage of the machine compared to today's high-end machines is perhaps the lack of object recognition supported by artificial intelligence.
I've seen a lot of vacuum cleaners already in operation. Some are fascinated by obstacle avoidance or route planning, while others are more terrifying. That's why I did the usual thing with the Proscenic M7 Pro. I sat down in a place where I didn’t bother the machine and started it.
I watched for hours. I rearranged the chairs, the tables, restarted. I blocked areas with chair legs and restarted.
And by the end, I had to state that the route planning, although different from the pattern usually seen on Xiaomi machines, is almost flawless. Maybe there were 1-2 cases where you had to go through an area several times while vacuuming.
He also had a great track with his legs. If you couldn’t fit in one place from one side, you would try the other side to see if.
And what he never made a mistake was docking. He got back to the dock with infinite precision, gently, without any unnecessary searching and stumbling. It didn’t matter if I ordered it back from the other room to the charger, or just wandered between the legs, instructing me to return, the thing was flawless.
I can only mention one negative, once the side circle brush somehow got stuck under the speaker, which caused the cleaning to stop. There was no other. More precisely, he ate the socks he forgot under the bed, he also wanted to eat the bookmark left by the kids, so like I said, it’s worth packing up before cleaning!
Everything else was good. It sucked everything together, the wiping also worked well. The carpet sensor is approx. 90 percent, 1-1 times, he fell asleep a little and didn’t spin himself up as soon as he got on the mat or didn’t take a turn back as he came off the mat.
Knowing how much the prices have gone down lately, a 60-70 thousand forint robot vacuum cleaner is a real gift. Especially if it is not only cheap but also usable. And the Proscenic M7 Pro is really usable.
If I deduct the suction from the app (which you won’t have anymore), I can say we get a near-perfect machine for our money. Obviously, keep in mind that high-tech costs a lot more, so if you want something that notices, and not only notices, but also recognizes fly shit on the floor, you need to reach your wallet a little deeper.
Overall, I dare say that I was very positively disappointed with the M7 Pro. My hands and eyes accustomed to Xiaomi quality did not find any essential points where it would be worth tying. There are minor flaws, I have described them in the article, but I think we can agree that we won't run to the wall because of them.
What's more important. According to the product finder, the best domestic price for a vacuum cleaner is 99 forints, which means, say, around 900. Compared to this, with the coupon received for the current article, we can order from a German warehouse for 100 thousand forints, which means a difference of almost 71 percent. Of course, the price includes VAT and since it comes from an EU warehouse, we don't have to deal with customs either.
If you want to buy a dock, I recommend not doing so. The dock is available at a gold price, it costs almost as much as the vacuum cleaner itself. And that’s a price you get for a more serious machine, along with a dock, of course.
