Pioneer BDR-202

The Japanese giant has announced its next-generation Blu-ray writer.

The news is not surprising at all, as we have been accustomed to the optical unit market for years, with larger manufacturers developing their products year after year. It's no different at Pioneer, as here's the BDR-202, whose main attraction is writing 4x BD-R and 2x BD-RE, but of course DVDs (write once: 12x, rewritable: 6x) and the roasting of CDs (24x) is also solved - along with reading - thanks to the newly developed combined laser head.

Of course, Pioneer also introduced a few sound technologies:

• Ultra DRA: reduction of harmful vibrations
• Limited Equalizer LSI: increase read reliability
• Multi-Effect Liquid Crystal Tilt Compensator: the drive can change the laser speed according to the quality of the disc, which can also improve the read and write characteristics

The boxed version will come with the Cyberlink software package, which will allow us to both play our BD-ROMs and create our own blue laser shows. Unfortunately, the initial price of the drive is still expected to be well above HUF 100.
