It should be a subjective right for everyone to have such a monitor who works on a computer.

Philips Brilliance 328P6VJEB - A boringly great 4K monitor

Introductory

This article stands out a bit from the monitor tests that appear on our site because we did not get this display for testing. This is my own monitor, which I selected after a long search. I need to know that I haven’t used my computer for games for many years, the primary area of use is work. I edit text, create web pages, manipulate images, and trim video. That is, I do a lot of tasks where good image quality, color fidelity are important, and of course, the display doesn’t completely ruin my eyes.

The Philips Brilliance 328P6VJEB has been selected based on the above criteria. As the title suggests, this is a 4K resolution monitor. Unfortunately, displays with such a resolution are still expensive today. They are expensive because in addition to 4K resolution, you also need a large diagonal, otherwise it makes no sense. You will see from the article that even this 32-inch diagonal may not be enough for this resolution.

So the price is high, but still, below the pain threshold. The Philips Brilliance 328P6VJEB is an extremely cheap piece compared to its capabilities. It’s so cheap that its price rivals that of two high-performance FHD monitors, and it’s not a question of what’s better, buying two FHD monitors or sipping some more money and buying a regular-sized 4K solution. I opted for the latter and I haven’t regretted it so far!

Philips Brilliance 328P6VJEB - Packaging and exterior

If you’re not angry about the box, I’m not writing litany now. It’s big, colorful, well-lined, so it’s okay, there’s not much chance of the subject of our article getting injured during shipping.

Let's deal with the monitor, the more interesting. The Philips Brilliance 328P6VJEB, as you read in the title, is a particularly boring monitor. It is designed for work and office, so no lights flicker on it, the cover is not broken by exciting edges, and the coffee is not extremely thin either. The thing has a kind of real mule nature, if I want to compare it to another brand, maybe I think of similar DELL displays for work.

Philips Brilliance 328P6VJEB 10

The choice of materials does not show too much creativity, wherever we look we can find plastic everywhere. The monitor is a bit bleak, but it is also due to the fact that its price has remained relatively low. Even so, they brought out what could have been out of it, no one will be ignoring it, but they will be envious for sure because of the big display.

The coffee circle is almost the same width, right and left, and 2 inches at the top and 2,5 inches at the bottom. The monotony is broken by the silver stripe integrated in the lower edge with the Philips inscription, and there is also a small chamfer at the bottom at the edge of the coffee, on the right side there are the inscriptions for the OSD menu and the status LED.

Traces of the practical design, which does not require any solution, can also be found on the back. The thickness of the display is 2,5 centimeters everywhere, except for the middle part, which contains electronics, where it is a little thicker. The bracket must also be screwed to this part.

The only interesting part of the monitor, which suggests some design, is the base and the stand. The base is almost completely circular, only a little of it is struck from the front for practicality, so you can see the base hanging less from under the display. The console is silver at the front, black at the back, with an oval breakthrough in the lower third.

The display on the base can be adjusted in several directions. It can be raised up to 180 millimeters, rotated 170 degrees to the right and left, or tilted 5 degrees back and forth 20 degrees. It is important to mention that the monitor can also be rotated on the base, tilted at the top hinge of the console, or the entire display can be rotated to 90 degrees as required, in ugly words it can also be used in PIVOT mode.

When we take it out of the box, we find the whole structure in three parts, as usual, so we have to mount the console on the base and the display on the console ourselves. This is not a very complicated task, but you will need a Phillips screwdriver. The weight of the display is not small, but it is also due to its size. The weight measured with the 9,2-kilogram sole is matched by the help of a man, if only because of his leniency towards women.

So, the delicacies should come now, but as you can guess from now, there are none. This is, say, for someone who works on the monitor a completely irrelevant momentum, for someone who clears the dust of it is a definite pleasure.

Let’s look more at the connectors and what’s left.

As I wrote, the controls for the OSD are at the bottom right of the handle (right-handers preferred) and there is also a status LED here. We can't find physical buttons, everything is touch sensitive. This is both an advantage and a disadvantage. An advantage is that the mechanics in the buttons don’t go bad, and a disadvantage because I often touch it unintentionally, for example, when I turn up the volume control on my speaker.

I'm a little unhappy with connectors. Not because of the type of connectors, but rather because of their number. At the bottom are the image inputs, here you will find a DVI, an HDMI, a Display Port and a D-Sub connector, along with an audio input and a headphone output. Why I am not going to reveal the number of connectors now will be revealed in the next paragraph on operation.
We also find buckles on the side front, here are four USB ports, one of which is yellow, which means that our mobile devices can be pumped full of electrons with a fast charge.

We can also close things about the exterior, I hope the pictures will tell you plenty for me.

Philips Brilliance 328P6VJEB - interior and function

Let's start with the OSD menu! This is essentially the same as the menu of the Philips monitors I studied earlier. The usual things we find in it like image calibration, color temperature, adobe or sRGB selection, brightness. You can adjust the volume, you can adjust what the audio input should be. You can use the PIP function (more on this later). So really the usual things. It should be noted that, like other Philips monitors, it also supports the not easy language of our country.

As usual, I report on the menu in pictures, I feel it is unnecessary to multiply the words for this, the point seems to be the case anyway.

Let us return a little to the already mentioned lack of image input. One of the best capabilities of a monitor is to be able to receive images from multiple data sources, this is called Multiview at Philips. In practice, this means - to stay at work - that since we can receive signals from two machines at once, I would, for example, be happy to hook up my notebook because there is a lot of material on it and I don’t feel like copying it here and there. Okay, I know there are cloud services, but internet isn’t everywhere when I travel. So, my notebook has an HDMI output. My video card also has an HDMI output, but there is only one HDMI input on the monitor, so I can’t see the notebook image in a PIP window while I’m working on the desktop. To do this, I will be forced to get another video card or go back and drive the display via D-Sub.

Lately, we have been getting used to Philips monitors not to look for an IPS panel in them. According to the new trend, the models made for players are not forced due to the high response time, the manufacturers have stepped back there, dusted off the good old TN + film technology, replaced the old tubular backlight with LED and made the “modern” and expensive gamer ready. monitor. Philips does not build an IPS panel into its work and multimedia monitors, but a VA panel. VA technology is positioned a bit between IPS and TN + film. The former is characterized by good contrast and impeccable color fidelity, and the latter by low contrast, poor color fidelity, but in return extremely low response time.

The VA panel does not emphasize impeccable color fidelity, not fast response time, but good contrast ratio. This will make it a kind of mule solution that is good for everything, but nothing bloody.

There’s no need to despair, it’s not like a four-season tire that doesn’t need to be replaced in the fall and spring because it’s good in the cold and warm, and then it turns out that it really can’t be used properly in either. The VA panel gives very good viewing angles, the NTSC color space coverage is around 95 percent, the contrast and blacks are excellent and the response time is tolerable, so we can use it for work or even gaming, but its main area is multimedia. Also in the case of films, the response time is important, it is important that there is no dragging, and of course it is very important that the image is really contrasting. This is also the case for VA panels.

The Philips Brilliance 328P6VJEB panel has a 32-inch diagonal, of which the visible size is 31,5 inches. The size of the visible surface is 698,4 x 392,85 millimeters, which is the usual 16: 9 aspect ratio. The resolution, as you may have read, is 4K, or UHD, 3840 x 2160 pixels. The color depth is 10 bits, according to the factory data the brightness is 300 cd / m², the typical contrast ratio is 3000: 1. The display is matte, which means that it does not reflect light, which is especially good for our eyes, and the eyes are much less tired. Importantly, the monitor can hold neither 120 nor 144 hertz, smooth sixty pieces. The response time, as I have already indicated, is good but not outstanding. This is 4 ms in this case, which goes to games with soda.

The Philips Brilliance 328P6VJEB also has audio inputs, which means we need to find some kind of speaker in it. There is, though, that’s not going to be the soul of a house party, twice 3 watts is a bit little for that, but if we don’t have a separate speaker next to the machine, it’s still enough to keep watching a Youtube video without sound.

I still can’t provide instrumental tests, for that I’m also rummaging through the pots of the net. I'll tell you what I found, but first my own impressions.

After turning on, the first thing that appeared was the vividness of the colors. Color fidelity is much better than my monitors so far, but if you knew what I worked on so far, you wouldn't be surprised. Importantly, the brightness of the backlight is surprisingly good, plus the lighting is amazingly even, with my eyes only seeing the image a little brighter in the upper left corner. Because of this, there is no sign of the sometimes clouding on the IPS panels. The viewing angles are good, although I have to note this IPS technology is better. There is some distortion in the image from a sharp angle and the colors also change a bit. What is also perceptible to the eye is that the image does not flicker.

Philips Brilliance 328P6VJEB 8

I’ve written above that in my opinion this 31,5 inches is a bit low for 4K resolution. To be able to work under Windows, I had to use a 100 percent setting instead of 125, because although native pixels would allow for a smaller size, it was already so small that it was confusing. I used to have a 40-inch 4K resolution monitor, well the point was good at 100 percent, but the 40-inch was so big that by the end of the day, my neck ached normally from a lot of upward glances. So the comfortable, clear image size is 31,5 inches, but to take full advantage of the pixel count, I need 40. For my part, I have to say that I didn’t accidentally choose this size, I would only recommend a larger desk if the desk is low and we we sit high.

Well, let's see what the net says about the monitor!

The opinions formed from the measurements broadly agree with what I have described so far. It is highlighted almost everywhere that the AdobeRBG setting is poor, and good color accuracy can be achieved with the sRGB mode. This is usually the case, but for the Philips Brilliance 328P6VJEB this is exponentially true. With the factory setting, the sRGB color space coverage is 94-95 percent, but with an instrument, it can be improved to 99 percent (I still have to get one sooner or later). Everywhere, backlighting is highlighted as one of the best things among the abilities. The brightness is also a good, typical experience, that it does not lag behind the factory value, there is no problem with the temperature of the colors, just as we cannot complain about the gray contrast. In each test, the monitor is positioned at the top of the midfield or in the leading edge.

Philips Brilliance 328P6VJEB Reviews

As you can read in the introduction, I needed this monitor for my work. I was definitely looking for 4K resolution and definitely an image diagonal around 30 inches. The 40 inches is too big, the 27 is already very small, at least when it comes to 4K, so this 31,5 inches is the mean value that is comfortable for me to use.

There was no trivial matter of price, and in this the Philips Brilliance 328P6VJEB performs well. One of the biggest shortcomings of the monitor is the lack of FreeSync and G-Sync. I would say two things about this. Since I didn’t play it, there was no question of whether or not I was interested in the lack of these skills. I didn't care. The other is that we have been doing very well in recent years without these skills. Especially if someone isn’t a professional player just amateur at home, it might be perfectly fine without them. There’s one more feature that goes against games, and that is image refresh, 60 Hz is a bit low.

Philips Brilliance 328P6VJEB 12

Instrumental measurements found on the net have shown that this monitor is not designed for blood professional graphic designers, the color fidelity is not 100 percent. However, you need to know that monitors that are really made for professional graphics work aren’t even available for that much money, we’d rather pay double or triple the price for them.

So the Philips Brilliance 328P6VJEB is basically a simple but brilliant piece worthy of its name. Who would I recommend this monitor to then? For those who use their computer most for work, just like me. Suitable for home or even more serious office work, we can even use it for CAD programs, but it will not fail while playing games or watching movies.

It's also the perfect choice for web development, image manipulation, and video cropping. Due to the high resolution, the window of the image editing programs can be scaled up to FHD, ie 1920 x 1080 pixels, while the timeline remains long enough, we can easily move back and forth in the video.

Philips Brilliance 328P6VJEB 2

For text editing, you can display up to four A4 pages side by side, the pages still remain easy to read. I don’t need to brush up on the benefits of high resolution in larger Excel spreadsheets.

It is a true all-knowing display that meets all the requirements of today, one that I would dare to recommend to almost everyone, and even if it were up to me, I would really give one to every computer worker a subject because I already know how great it is to work on such a monitor!

The price remained at the end. The Philips Brilliance 328P6VJEB is available at many retailers in Hungary, and the price typically varies between HUF 135 and HUF 155. Needless to say, it’s not a little money that we’re talking about, but we can’t say it’s expensive, as his abilities are far from serving that price.
