Microsoft is making the final touches to the spring update for Windows 10, which is expected to be released with version 1803. The lion's share of the novelties has been completed accordingly, and now the focus will be pretty slowly on stabilization and debugging. Below is an overview of the improvements that have been made to the update in a few weeks.

The timeline

This feature would have originally appeared in the fall update, but has only now been deployed. By clicking on the task view button (Windows + Tab), we can also see our previous activities, and thanks to the synchronization, the information is not limited to the device you are currently using - you can find the necessary data protection settings in the Machine menu. Through the timeline, we can instantly retrieve what we’ve read before in the Edge browser, what file we’ve worked on in the Word text editor, and more. The only beauty spot is that only a very limited number of programs are currently supported.
If Microsoft's plans work, the switch between PC and mobile will be dramatically simplified, but as we've said before, developers will also have to make the necessary changes on an application-by-application basis.

Easier file sharing (Near Share)

Once you have enabled this option in the action center, you can then share with nearby devices with a few clicks; sending photos, web addresses, and files becomes easier. Near Share transmits via Bluetooth.

Language packs in the Store

Fine-tuned notifications

Display and DPI settings

The Home group is terminated

In addition to the above, the next release of Windows 10 will bring a number of minor changes, of which the following are worth noting:

• The handwriting recognition service has improved at many points, so you can write directly in the prepared text fields (eg in the Machine House). Word re-recognition has also been improved (when correcting a previously incorrectly detected word), and the handwriting font can be changed in Machine> Tools> Pen and Windows Ink.

• The emoji keyboard (Windows + 😉 will not close automatically after inserting an image, making it easier to type multiple emojis.

• Several settings related to the sound system (eg device change, troubleshooting) have moved to the modern interface: Machine room> System> Sound
• Windows Update notification icon in the taskbar when the update requires user intervention (such as a restart).
• Reset the password for the local account by setting the security question first (Machine House> Accounts> Login Options).

• The Fluent design pops up in even more areas (the Home screen, the sharing interface, the clock pop-up, the touch keyboard on the taskbar, etc.).
• Boot programs can also be found in the Engine House, under Applications and Services.
• The Snipping Tool has been supplemented with an "edit in Paint 3D" button.

• For applications that appear in the Start menu, you can easily find the settings where you can access all the important things: delete, permissions, restore by opening the right-click list.

• You can set a data limit for Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections.

• If required, you can prefer a mobile data connection to Wi-Fi - for example, at low signal strengths.

• Under "Enclosure> Time and Language" there is a "Keyboard Settings" menu item.

• The Registry process in Task Manager provides data to the kernel. According to Microsoft, this will allow the registry to use memory more efficiently in the future.

• The Wslpath command has been released, making it easier to modify the path. This can come in handy when commuting between two systems (Linux - Windows).
• Scheduled Tasks and Remote Desktop Connection are also available for Linux applications, and you can also use serial devices (COM port). Another novelty is that background Linux tasks (such as sshd, tmux) are also supported.
• Disk Cleanup can now be found under Enclosure> System> Storage.

• For UWP apps, the scroll bar automatically disappears, but now you can prevent this (Engine> Easy to use> Screen).
• Game Mode has been given a reset function (Enclosure> Game> Game Mode).
• New policies have been introduced (gpedit.msc), administrators can even control the available bandwidth by time of day.

• The Color Filter keyboard shortcut is turned off by default (Windows + CTRL + C), but you can turn it on in Enclosure> Ease of Use> Color and Contrast Display.
• You can start configuring Windows Hello directly from the logon screen.

According to the news, Windows 10 Redstone 4 will be officially referred to as the Spring Creators Update. Based on the version number (1803), the system may be ready sometime in March, and distribution may begin as early as April.
