Introductory
2024 will be memorable for me for a long time, because this is the year when Chinese manufacturers finally moved away from the holy trinity of mechanical disc brakes, weak shock absorbers and pedal sensors. In other words, this is not true, since even last year there was 1-1 normal telescope and 1-1 hydraulic brake, but there were not many torque sensors.
The latter is the goodness that finally makes it really good to use Chinese bikes. If I had to look for an analogy, it's a bit like when you switch from smart watches with IPS displays to AMOLED displays. You see, both this and that work, but you can't see the IPS display when the sun is shining.
Between the pedal sensor and the torque sensor approx. that's the difference. Both of them drive and both of them work, but one of them feels like you're constantly arching your back, and the other feels like your hamstrings have suddenly grown out. In other words, in the latter case, the extra power comes as gently as if you were giving it yourself, rather than the brain engine helping you.
Well, the bike presented in this article is just like that. A torque-sensing and very fine little machine!
Unpacking, assembly
The box is quite large, quite heavy, but the weight is still manageable despite the poor grip of the box.
You open it, and inside you receive so many accessories that you don't even know what to touch. A front and a rear fender, a roughly large rear trunk, light, pump and a phone holder. In addition to these, you will also have three boxes with accessories, a pedal, a charging tool package, etc. etc. etc.
I started the installation in the sun, but it didn't last as long as usual, in the end I had to be careful not to start raining. A couple of drops already fell, but in the end we managed to get everything up and installed before the sky fell.
Its installation is actually not complicated, just a lot of screws. First of all, I recommend that you get a small tube thread lock before you start screwing, because it didn't get anywhere. I didn't deal with this during the test, but I think you will be using the OneSport OT05 for a long time, so you will need that tachograph.
There are a few negatives that I am forced to report. One is that in many years the OT05 was the first bike on which the calipers were not adjusted. This is not a crazy problem, two screws per saddle have to be loosened and then tightened, but if you are less good at screwing, then adjusting the saddle will be difficult. I didn't have it, but not everyone has put together dozens of bikes.
The other is that one of the pedals had a bad ride. Due to some material defect, a small piece of material turned out of the metal when cutting the thread, which made it impossible to screw it in. A little sanding helped with that. No other tester wrote about such a problem, I also think that it is just a unique surprise intended for me, but it is fair to mention this as well.
The third is that although the polish of the OneSport OT05 is dazzling, it can chip off at the edges. That is, in places where there is some edge. Next to the battery holder, on top of the steering wheel neck, and places like that. This is because the paint will have a slight shoulder after curing. Fortunately, I didn't have any visible traces, that is, if I know what to look for, I can see it, but otherwise it's imperceptible.
The fourth is that I would saw off the hands of the person who invented the installation of the first fender. There is a screw screwed into the bridge from the front, the hole is threaded, so you really have to screw it in. A nut was put on the same screw at the back. The screw holds the light, the nut at the back holds the front fender.
Now, in retrospect, I realized that a:
- I should have put the fender on before installing the wheel, because if I do that, I just screw in the bolt, it holds both the light and the fender, and the nut is not needed.
- If I didn't install the fender first, then I don't know afterwards, because the retaining plate tab should be threaded onto the screw and then tightened with the nut. Well, that's not possible, because the screw doesn't reach the plate tab that holds the fender, so the nut can't be screwed on.
- If you use a pair of pliers to bend the lug so you can thread it onto the bolt, you'll realize you don't have a tool to tighten the nut. it's in a bad place, only a ratchet wrench will help.
The task is not insurmountable, but hey, I don't like such stupid solutions. Didn't anyone notice that this wasn't going to be good?
Back to mounting the OneSport OT05!
So you have to install the front wheel, install the mudguards, put on the rather large rear luggage rack, which is ok up to a load of 25 kilos, the light, if you want the cat's eyes on the wheel, the phone holder. Oh, and of course the steering wheel on the steering stem. It's a positive thing that they didn't put up some warped custom handlebar stem, so if the handlebar is low for you or doesn't fit your hand, you'll have the option to install an adjustable handlebar stem as well.
One thing remains, the wiring of the rear light to the electrical system, but it is not difficult. Also, you can also install the throttle, because you get it among the accessories. It's true that the bike will no longer be EU compliant, but you don't have to care about that.
You're almost done. Check the brakes, check the brake discs, check the gearbox, if everything is OK, then the OneSport OT05 is almost ready to go!

I won't write much, let's quickly run through the factory data!
The frame of the bike is aluminum, the maximum load capacity is 100 kilograms, the weight of the OneSport OT05 is approximately 35,5 kilograms. The net weight, if anyone is interested, is 28 kilograms. Among these data, I don't really know what to think of the load capacity, and I weigh 100 kilos, I was a little afraid to sit on it, but there was no problem. The frame doesn't look like a slouch, perhaps because of the engine's performance, such a low maximum weight was given for the load capacity. The frame also includes the fact that the OneSport OT05 is available in blue, white and brown.
It is driven by a hub motor in the rear wheel, which here is not Bafang, but Ananda, but that is also a good name, very good! The motor is 250 watts, the torque is 40 Nm. The system is 36 volts, the battery is 18,2 Ah, so we have 655 Wh for driving. It is also important that the controller is sinusoidal, which enables even more even starting and driving.
This 18,2 Ah capacity is above average anyway, for machines with batteries built into the frame, especially torque sensors, 8 Ah is the smallest and 15 Ah is the largest that we can meet. At least in an average bike.
The OneSport OT05 with this battery and engine, according to the factory, we can travel 120 kilometers with assistance mode and of course with one charge. The climbable slope can be a maximum of 20 degrees. Oh, before I forget, if you put the throttle on, according to the paper, you can go 60 kilometers in electric mode only.
When I write these lines, I haven't tried the bike yet (the test will start after the specification is finished), so I am writing blindly that the paper can handle everything, but that this bike will not go 120 or 60 kilometers, approx. I do my life. I hope I get away with it and this won't be my last test.
What else is important? Of course, there is a shifter on the OneSport OT05, the usual cheap Tourney design with Shimano 7 speeds. We also have a simple front shock absorber, we also have disc brakes with 180 discs, which in this case (big bucks for it) are hydraulic! I haven't mentioned the wheel size, which is 27,5 inches, the tire width is 2,25 inches, the pattern is urban.
Regarding the brake, it is important that the equipped brake differs from the cheaper types not only in that it is hydraulic, but also in that there are not one but two working cylinders in the brake caliper. In other words, the two brake pads are pressed against the disc from both sides. The mechanical brake has a working cylinder that presses the disc onto the other fixedly inserted brake pad on the opposite side.
I think I have said everything, the experiences can come!
Experiences
Let's start with the exterior! There will certainly be those who say this is a women's bike, and in some ways they would be right. This aspect is the design of the frame. However, according to the manufacturer, it is not a women's bike, but a city bike, and they are right. It is also indicated on a sticker on the frame, do not jump with it, do not use it for Downhill, etc. Let's say to a sensible person, seeing the Onesport OT05, I don't think you would even think of using it for such things.

My neighbor said that, in his opinion, it is quite understandable that the frame is like this, because if there is a child seat on the rear trunk, there is no man who would be able to swing his leg over the child. And this is only one (very rational) argument in favor of the form.
It's basically a city bike. Not for racing and not for high speed, but unlike the usual 20-inch machines, even for relatively long distances. The OneSport OT05 can be perfectly suitable for cycling to the neighboring village, but if you are not the competitive type, it can also be used to cycle around the Balaton in 2-3 days.
The seat is comfortable, although I dare to state this clearly for shorter urban use. It's a bit wide and a bit soft for me, it's not perfect for longer trips. But, we're not the same, aren't we, and our seat is not the same, maybe this will be good for you. In terms of quality, I think it is absolutely flawless.
There is normal protection against water, understand that in rainy weather, you can also set off on wet roads with the OneSport OT05. There is a normal brake, which means fairly large discs and a normal hydraulic brake, which makes slowing down and stopping easier, and there is a good chance that the squealing that is common with mechanical brakes will also be absent.

There are 4 standard mounting points on both sides of the front steering column, a front luggage rack can be installed here, and I suspect that a front basket can be screwed on. I have found several types of these on the internet, both smaller and larger, with a load capacity of 10-20 kilograms. In other words, if you buy one of these, you can load up to 40 kilos forward and backward.
The icing on the cake is that the rear luggage rack, which can hold 25 kilos (plus it looks very good) even has lateral bracing, so that the child's feet cannot get between the spokes, but you can also attach a saddlebag and attach it you know both sides.
Due to the design of the frame, it is very easy to get on and off the OneSport Ot05, so I don't think anyone can deny that it is an extremely practical device.

The central display is a well-done piece. I have also seen this on other bikes, I think it was a good choice, it can be read even in the sun. What is lacking is that the battery charge display is not indicated, we only see the charge graphically. There is no other, he is truly one of the best.
Has front and rear lights. The front is natural, the rear is an extra for Chinese bikes. This rear light is also connected to the electrical system, i.e. it is not battery-powered. The icing on the cake is that it also works as a brake light, although the brightness of the brake light is not very high.

The drive is very good! With a sine wave controller, this torque sensor works as smooth as butter. It accelerates gently and while riding it really feels like I'm simply more muscular sitting on this bike than on my traditional bike. It helps pedaling, even a little too much on a flat road in third gear.
Yes, I didn't mention that we have three assist levels, the first one on flat roads, but I only recommend the third one on uphills, it's simply unnecessary on flat roads.
If I'm looking for a weaker thing on the OneSport OT05, it's clearly the first telescope. It's a simple strut, no lockability, no preload adjustment, nothing. There are so many extras because the pitch of the spring in it is probably not uniform. Having experienced the springing, I guess that there is a softer part at the top (with a higher pitch) and a harder one at the bottom, so it easily absorbs small road bumps, but doesn't bounce on bigger ones either.
I also didn't like the rotating tab that holds the battery, it also seems such a cheap solution. Of course, if you lock the battery with a key, it won't fall out, it's not the tab that holds it, it's only needed so that it doesn't fall out immediately when the key is opened.
Range. Although they give the throttle, I don't usually install it on bikes that don't have it on it from the factory. The reason it is not listed is because this way the bicycle becomes EU compliant, an electric bicycle without a throttle is a bicycle with an auxiliary motor, and different rules apply to the two categories. So I leave it to all electric bikes.
For this reason, I cannot comment on the distance that can be covered with pure electric drive, but knowing the range that can be reached with the assist mode, it does not have the factory 60 kilometers.

OneSport OT05 – the rear trunk looks surprisingly good
I didn't drive the charge to zero, but based on my calculations and experience, the real range is around 65-70 kilometers in assist mode. I note that I weigh a little under 100 kilos and there are many hills on our way. So, on a flat road, with a smaller body weight, I think 80 kilometers is possible. However, I don't think the factory-specified 60 kilometers available in purely electric mode is really believable.
Finally, I would like to write about one more thing, this is the Bluetooth connector and the phone application provided with the bike. You can find this in stores under the name OneSport, but it is not the manufacturer's own application. This is a slightly tweaked version of the completely normal Smart Home application, which differs from Smart Home in that it has a section where you can see where you are going on a map.
This program is the same as the applications of many other companies, e.g. the Duotts also use this, to say the least.
This application is what it is. He knows the basics, e.g. you can turn on the light and adjust the strength of the assistance. You can change it from kilometers to miles, there is route tracking, but so approx. that's all. Let's keep in mind that it's good as it is, it might be worth using it for route tracking on tours, but not much for anything else.
Oops, I almost missed that there is a USB A connector on the steering wheel, so you can charge your phone in addition to it, so that it doesn't drain while using the application. Oh, and of course, don't forget the phone holder that comes with the bike, because that completes the set. In other words, Bluetooth + application + USB charger + phone holder, this is the complete package for mobile use.
Who do I recommend the OneSport OT05 to?
For those who want to take small tours with a lot of luggage or with children. For the smaller ones, understand 50-70 kilometers. I would change the seat for this, but as I wrote, maybe the factory one will be good for you, you have to try it, if it doesn't work, another seat is not a big expense.
I also recommend it to those who commute to the city for work, as you can pick up your child from kindergarten on the way home or drop in to do some shopping, if that's the case. The OneSport OT05 is perfectly fine for even longer distances in the city.
However, I do not recommend it to those who come from agglomerations and can only carry the bicycle in the trunk, because it will not fit in an average passenger car. On another note, if there is a bicycle carrier on the car, you can use it to cycle from the P+R parking lot and then come in by car.
I don't recommend it to those who do extreme sports with their bikes either, but I don't think this is surprising.
Conclusion
Basically, the OneSport OT05 is a very good structure, I say this despite the fact that it has weak points. However, the comfort of cycling overrides everything, so you quickly forget that you cannot lock the front shock absorber, which can come in handy on a smooth, high-quality asphalt road or bike path.
The drive is very smooth, very pleasant, almost natural feeling, perhaps it is not an exaggeration that this was the best torque sensor drive I have come across so far among Chinese bikes. The usability and practicality of the OneSport OT05 is also exemplary, clearly for women, but if you, as a man, are not picky about the shape of the frame, then I dare to recommend it to my male colleagues without further ado for shopping, going to work, carrying children, and for small tours.
Overall, this bike was a very pleasant disappointment, I am sure that it is well worth the price, especially knowing the prices of electric bikes in Hungary. For that money, you don't get a torque sensor, but you don't even get a traditional pedal sensor, not even if you look at the quality below the OneSport OT05.
So all in all, I can only assure you that if you are looking for an electric bike at such a price, don't leave the OneSport OT05 out of the calculation either!
