For most smart toothbrushes, the term “smart” is just an exaggeration. The problem isn’t with the cleaning function, but with the added smart features that are practically worthless.

What good is it that the app reminds me to change the head? I notice it anyway! Why should I be notified that I brushed my teeth for less than I should? I know exactly how much time I want to spend brushing my teeth! What kind of score can a toothbrush give for brushing if it doesn't have a single sensor?

In general, I'm not impressed by smart toothbrushes, and in fact, I find the smart features completely unnecessary. But I emphasize: in general...

The Oclean X Pro has intrigued me for a long time, as this model has truly outstanding capabilities. It boasts its own operating system, a touch-sensitive AMOLED display, a gyroscope and a pressure sensor, so the brushing performance is truly impressive. And these are just the most interesting features, as it is characterized by numerous programs, multi-level adjustable intensity and many other functions.

However, I can now say for sure that I will not be getting the Oclean X Pro. Instead, I bought its successor, the Oclean X Pro Elitewhich knows everything that its “little brother” does, and of course has been enriched with additional capabilities, which makes it truly deserve the “Elite” designation!

Packaging, accessories

The box is quite large for a toothbrush. This is justified, as in addition to the toothbrush, the package also includes a magnetic wall mount and a wireless charger, which I will write about in more detail later, as they are very interesting accessories.

Apart from the toothbrush, there is only a detailed user manual – which is extremely long, but if you read this article, you probably won’t need it. Unfortunately, there are no spare toothbrush heads included, so we’ll have to take care of that ourselves later.

Az Oclean X Pro Elite It already suggests premium quality when you hold it in your hand. The plastic casing has a stone effect, the manufacturer officially defines it as a “limestone gray” color.

Control is via the display and the push button below it. The display is impressive in size, the AMOLED panel produces beautiful colors, and is also highly visible in bright light.

There's no need to look for the charging port or contacts, because this toothbrush truly charges wirelessly. Of course, you need a USB cable for the charger, but that's basically it.

Knowledge, that is, the paper form

Az Oclean X Pro Elite Not only does it continue the legacy of the Oclean X Pro introduced last year in its name, but the two devices are also extremely similar in their capabilities. More precisely, the Elite can be considered an improved version of the X Pro.

For example, it has wireless charging, which works exactly the same as what you would find on a cell phone. The charger itself is very similar to the flat discs that come with phones, only a little more compact, and has a silicone cover on top that provides a secure hold for the toothbrush. As an interesting aside, I also tried my desktop wireless phone charger, and it can also charge the toothbrush. It has no practical use, but it is an interesting observation.

An important development is that the device has become significantly quieter, and this is not just an empty marketing promise. It operates quieter than the X Pro model, and in fact, than any electric toothbrush I have used so far. According to the manufacturer, the noise level remains below 45 dB even at maximum intensity, which is a remarkable result. Especially in light of how powerful the device is – but I will write about this in more detail in the next chapter…

The battery capacity is also outstanding. Although the specific value (800 mAh) is not that important, what is more important is that after a 3,5-hour full charge, assuming twice-daily brushing, it provides 35 days of battery life. This means you can take it with you on a longer vacation without having to worry about the charger.

The Oclean OS operating system is of course also standard here, and has been further refined compared to the previous model. One of the most impressive features of the predecessor was the filtering of blind spots that occur during brushing. In practice, this meant that after brushing, we could see via the mobile app which areas were less intensively cleaned, and which parts were completely missed.

The app, of course, also scored our brushing performance, and if we paid close attention, it gradually "taught" us the correct brushing technique to thoroughly clean all areas of our teeth.

These functions have of course been retained in the successor model, as has the useful innovation that we can now see not only on our phone, but also directly on the toothbrush display if we have missed an area during cleaning, so we can immediately correct the mistake.

Another new feature is the automatic wake-up function. The toothbrush senses when you lift it up or remove it from the wall holder and turns on automatically – all you have to do is start the selected program.

Finally, the wall mount deserves a mention. This is one of the most innovative features of this toothbrush. Instead of the usual snap-in solution, a magnetic mount has been used, which securely holds the toothbrush on the wall.

Removing and re-installing is extremely easy, I tested several times what the chances are of it falling off or putting it back on incorrectly, but there is practically none. It sticks firmly in place, but just enough so that when we want to remove it, we don't have to pull the tile off the wall with us.

Use and experience

Let's start with the installation!

Since we are talking about a smart toothbrush, of course it comes with a mobile app that we need to install. The process is extremely simple and user-friendly:

1. We add the new device in the application, the switched-on toothbrush is automatically detected and identified by the software via Bluetooth connection
2. We provide our date of birth and gender
3. We choose the type of our teeth: normal, smoker's, braces or distorted
4. Please mark if there are any factors that can discolor your teeth: smoking, tea, wine, coffee
5. We choose the current shade of our teeth
6. And with that we are done!

The setup is not particularly complicated, but the toothbrush needs this data to create a personalized brushing program.

Once the installation is complete, you can start using the app. You can check and change your settings, update your toothbrush's operating system, and track your brushing quality, blind spots, and scores by calendar while using the device.

Speaking of blind spots, it is worth mentioning that the Oclean X Pro Elite It distinguishes 8 different zones, so it cannot provide detailed information such as whether the right back molar was not cleaned properly.

The eight zones are divided into right and left, top and bottom, and inside and outside. These can be seen in the app after each brushing, but as I mentioned earlier, they can also be viewed directly on the display.

Let's see the use!

To start with, virtually all settings are accessible directly via the touch-sensitive display. There are four different brushing modes to choose from: sensitive, massage, normal, and whitening.

The manufacturer's description mentions 32 different intensity levels, which at first led me to conclude that this meant 4 x 32 combinations, but this is not true. In the case of normal brushing, there are indeed 32 intensity levels to choose from, but in the whitening mode, there are only four levels and in the gentle mode, only three levels.

In addition to the brushing mode and intensity, you can also adjust the brushing duration.

Dental professionals generally recommend that a thorough brushing session should last about two minutes. Most electric toothbrushes default to this time and will give you a signal during brushing when you should move to a new zone.

In practice, this works so that with eight zones, each zone gets 15 seconds.

In the case of discolored teeth, regular coffee or wine consumption, or smokers, the application recommends a more intensive, longer cleaning. Of course, in this case, we also receive a warning (the vibration pattern changes) that we can move on to the next zone.

After brushing, the tooth map appears on the display, and we can see the score given for our brushing performance in addition to each zone.

This score takes into account blind spots, i.e. how thoroughly we cleaned our teeth, but also evaluates whether we applied the right amount of pressure with the toothbrush and whether the time spent brushing was sufficient.

At this point, it's worth taking a small detour, as we're talking about one of the most important features of the Oclean X Pro Elite, which deserves some further thought!

Cheaper smart toothbrushes (which are not necessarily that cheap in our country) also score points, but it is completely unclear on what criteria the evaluation is based.

The situation is incomprehensible because these toothbrushes do not have built-in sensors that can detect movement or pressure, so I have no idea what their rating is based on. However, the Oclean X Pro Elite is in a completely different category.

The built-in six-axis gyroscope and pressure sensor provide real, measurable data. It can calculate a realistic assessment and score from the position, movement and pressure of the toothbrush on the teeth. Complemented by a tooth map showing blind spots, the X Pro Elite actually helps you master the correct brushing technique. It teaches you the correct posture, the optimal distribution of time spent brushing - in other words, everything you need for effective cleaning!

Let the practical experiences follow!

As you can see, the toothbrush is a complex structure, but it is extremely simple to use. We can easily select programs, adjust the intensity and all other parameters. The display works perfectly, it is clearly visible, although I need glasses to evaluate the details of the tooth map.

Settings can be made by scrolling up and down on the display, selection is made with the physical button, which is indicated by a green checkmark appearing on the display, confirming successful settings.

The dental map automatically appears on the display after brushing, but if you haven't been able to take a close look, you can recall it at any time by pressing and holding the physical button.

As I mentioned earlier, this toothbrush is actually quieter than any model I've used before. And what's particularly positive is that this is true not only at the lowest intensity, but also at the highest.

Interestingly, the sonic name for these toothbrushes refers to the sound they produce. Due to the high frequency of vibrations (which is several times that of brushes with rotating heads), we hear this characteristic sound, which can be particularly disturbing with some models, especially at high speeds.

What are the intensity levels available in practice?

It is no coincidence that the gentle brushing mode only has three levels to choose from. The normal cleaning program has an effect that is difficult to describe in words. It will not dislodge your teeth, of course, but it produces a vibration of such intensity that even I, an experienced user of sonic toothbrushes for years, had to get used to it.

If this doesn't clean properly, nothing will!

First of all, it is important to emphasize that the Oclean X Pro Elite It delivers on its promises. It's really quiet, provides thorough cleaning and has really smart additional features!

And this smartness is not for its own sake – it wasn’t built in to dazzle users or make the specification list longer. Here, the smart features have a real purpose: TO TEACH YOU THE CORRECT TEETH-BRUSHING TECHNIQUE! Nothing more, nothing less.

Of course, it's a good option to be able to choose drinks that stain our teeth, adjust the condition of our teeth, and use the programs recommended based on these, but in my opinion, the most valuable function is to be able to learn the correct brushing technique.

I consider it particularly important that the Oclean X Pro Elite You don't need your phone to use its smart features all the time. Of course, you need it for the initial setup, but you can skip it altogether afterwards. And why is this so important?

Because I think one of the biggest drawbacks of smart toothbrushes is that we have to constantly check our phones after brushing. Maybe it's just me who finds this inconvenient, and there are people who enjoy browsing toothbrush-related data on their phones, but I'm not one of them.

What happened with most of these devices was that I installed the app, checked the results after the first brushing, and then didn't bother with it anymore. I want to brush my teeth, thoroughly and effectively, not be fiddling with my phone. It's a completely unnecessary complication.
