… Just as there was no Ultrá at the time.
Do you remember November 2006, when the GeForce 8800 series (8800 GTS 640 MB and 8800 GTX 768 MB) went on its conquest? Yes? No? Well, at that time the starting point of the GTS was around HUF 140 gross in the stores, while we were asked for 000-30% more for the GTX. Then last year the Ultra was released - which was practically a tuned GTX with other cooling - which was also not one of the cheaper ones, its starting price was around 40 forints.
If we can believe the rumors, the 9800 GX2, which will be released in the near future, will cost at least as much as an 8800 Ultra now - the price overseas will probably be between $ 600-700. This seems a bit much, but keep in mind that we’re practically talking about two glued 8800 GTS 512MBs with special cooling - which means production costs won’t be low either.
What all this will mean to us in terms of our wallets will slowly become clear over time.
