We have a NAS on the network

Anno, sometime 15 years ago, the computer still existed as an independent island in households, already where there was a computer at all. Then came the modems, and with the modems, the world came in via the Internet. Our machine became part of a network, even a very large network. Interestingly, the smaller step was taken only after the big one, i.e. the vast network of the internet in most cases preceded the smaller networks at home.

We don’t have to research the causes for long, there’s nothing mysterious about that. What simply happened was that a single PC was not common in a normal household at the time, and having two or even three computers inside an apartment was really a rarity. Thus, home networks had no raison d’être.

Since then, however, much water has flowed down the Danube. Computers are getting cheaper, in addition, devices with networking features, such as media players, have become widespread. In the meantime, wireless networks have also gained more and more ground, so there was no longer an obstacle to the need to cable, which on the one hand is a very big job, on the other hand it also costs a lot.

So nowadays, it’s not at all special if someone wants to build a wired or wireless network in their home, since a second PC, a WiFi mobile phone is no longer a rarity.

Perhaps this is also the reason why network storage has also come to the fore. It can be very useful to be able to share some of our files on the network, and even to share them without having to run a separate computer. That's what the NAS is for. These devices do not have advanced multimedia capabilities, but do have features that make it easier to access files over a network. These are mostly FTP and torrent functions, but it is not uncommon for the file server function either.
