Timed for Computex 2006, Micro Star International (MSI) has introduced the first member of its new motherboard family, based on Intel’s new desktop platform, the 965 series.

Intel offers home end users the G965 and P965 chipsets, the difference between the two being that the G965 includes an integrated graphics controller, but apart from that, both chipsets support 533/800/1066 MHz FSB, dual channel DDR2 -800 memory controllers and Intel VIIV / vPro technology, which includes a number of optimizations in the hope of creating a Digital Home. MSI will offer a 965-based motherboard with about six different features, the current one of which will represent the entry level.

The MSI P965 Platinum motherboard is equipped with the following features:

  • Support for Intel® Core 2, Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition, Pentium 4, Pentium D, and Celeron D processors (with socket 775 enclosure)
  • 1066 MHz FSB
  • Intel® P965 chipset
