After the two well-equipped models, Xiaomi also wants to conquer the entry level.

Everything we need to know about Xiaomi’s new cheap robotic vacuum cleaner

Introduction

It is known that the first generation Xiaomi Mi Robot vacuum cleaner was manufactured by Beijing Stone Century Science Technology, while the second generation introduced last year has already been launched by Xiaomi's sub-brand, roborock. About a week and a half ago, the news came that Xiaomi would launch another robotic vacuum cleaner, and we would get this under the auspices of another sub-brand. That means we need to get to know a new name, Xiaowa. The new vacuum cleaner was named Xiaowa Smart Cleaner Youth Edition.

So far, this vacuum cleaner is the third, but strictly speaking, the second vacuum cleaner under the auspices of Xiaomi. This vacuum cleaner is a bit like the Star Wars Saga, here too the first came after the second and third chapters. We don't know the store prices yet, but depending on the pre-ventilated amount, we can expect the machine somewhere between $ 150 and $ 200.

The Xiaowa Smart Cleaner Youth Edition looks like other Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaners, there are not too many modifications. What first appears is that the laser gun turret, which can be found on the elsp and second editions, is missing from the top. The vacuum cleaner was given the usual round body, which could hold all the elements for the drive and cleaning, and of course space for some of the sensors. There are three buttons on the top of the machine for charging, turning on and off, and switching between cleaning modes.

At the front of the cover is the sensor that allows the vacuum cleaner to find the charging station. The system automatically starts the automatic return when the charge on the machine falls below 30 percent. This is good because you certainly won’t be left in the middle of the room with a discharged vacuum cleaner to trap when you get home in the dark, and it’s also good because it conserves battery life when you’re not immersed in zero. The front of the vacuum cleaner also has an obstacle avoidance system, which helps the machine avoid objects in front of it and slows down movement when the vacuum cleaner approaches an obstacle. This protects you and our furniture.

As with the older siblings, there is a dust box under the top hinged lid. This is a very good thing, as we can easily and visually assess whether or not to empty the dust container. The capacity of the dust container is 640 ml.

There are two grid holes arranged symmetrically on the back of the machine. One of these hides the speaker and the other has an air duct outlet, where the air drawn in from the belly of the machine leaves, cleaned of course.

If we turn the Xiaowa Smart Cleaner Youth Edition on its back, we are essentially seeing the image we are already used to. The four sensors on the edges, the main brush in the middle, and the broom on the thread, which, reaching the corners of the machine, sweeps the dust and dirt in the direction of the main brush. The design of the main brush reduces the adhesion of the hairs somewhat, but it is suspected that sometimes more serious cleaning will be required here as well. As usual, the wheels were fitted with a rubber cover that was extremely soft, as we were used to, so the vacuum cleaner would not damage the floor.

Operation and telephone application

As you may have read above, there are three buttons on the top of the vacuum cleaner for control. However, as you would expect from a Xiaomi product, the vacuum cleaner also fits into the Xiaomi smart home ecosystem, so control and setup can be most effectively done on our phone’s display. Once you have downloaded and installed the app, after opening it and connecting the vacuum cleaner, you will see the usual repository of settings. You can adjust the strength of the vacuum cleaner, which of course also changes the noise, with the strongest 1600 pa suction power mode, you can no longer sleep much. On your phone, you can see the time of cleaning, the energy used, and the quality of the wearing parts, so you can order a new brush in time if the old one is worn out, or you can buy a dust filter if you need it.

The APP allows users to view cleaning records, cleaning location, and other useful information. In fact, there are 9 types of cleaning modes, including local cleaning, deceleration collision, on curtains, next to the wall, winding, reconciliation, carpet printing, anti-drop, virtual wall, and so on. mode. When switched on, it automatically trims a 1,2 m circular hedge trimmer to the center of the walking robot, which is suitable for cleaning the sweeper in a specific area.

The vacuum cleaner, despite not having a laser sensor in the more expensive versions, is quite efficient. True, it happens that you pass through an area several times, but regardless, it cleans up pretty quickly, a 20-square-foot room takes about 27 minutes. As we wrote, there is no laser mapping here, but there are traditional sensors, and we also get an infrared sensor that detects objects that get in the way of the vacuum cleaner. Because it has a weak point based on infrared technology, it does not thrive on glass surfaces, there you have to entrust the vacuum cleaner to the first collision sensor.

The built-in battery of the Xiaowa Smart Cleaner Youth Edition has a capacity of 2600 mAh, which is not insanely large, but it is still among the larger in the category. Based on tests performed on the net so far, this battery allows for roughly 2 hours of continuous operation, which is no small if you consider that it takes 20 minutes for 27 square meters. This, after a brief calculation, means that a vacuum cleaner with one charge will be enough to clean an apartment of roughly 80 square meters.

Conclusion

Nowadays, there is a breakthrough in smart home systems, and these systems now include more advanced smart vacuum cleaners. A survey published by China Smart Home Index Report in April 2017 shows that this market has grown by 2015 percent compared to 884, so the growth rate could reach 2020 percent per year by 25.

Xiaomi is investing heavily in the development of smart home systems, which can be seen in their products. They are launching really cheap and user-friendly gadgets that can now be used to build a complete smart home system, for a fraction of the price 5-10 years ago. At Xiaomin, they probably had a good time that their two more expensive vacuum cleaners laid the groundwork for success, and they have no choice but to harvest that bottom after the middle and upper categories as well. Based on the news and experience so far, the Xiaowa Smart Cleaner Youth Edition may be capable of this task, of course, only if retailers don’t want to break up with it and the price is between the $ 150-200 mentioned at the beginning of the article.
