Lenovo HX03W - the black box

Lenovo HX03W - the black box

Once again, we got this smart bracelet from Gearbest, which will be the subject of our present article. Our main point of view this time (too) was to present you a product of acceptable quality at a reasonable price. I think you’re going to look at the price tag with your eyes wide-eyed, at least I’m seriously shocked that this reputable brand is trying at such a price level.

Appearances

Certain, the packaging of the product does not cause lasting memories; we would have a hard time imagining a more boring design, we don't even consider the depressing indicator strong. Let's move beyond that, because after all, the point is inside…

Lenovo did not come up with revolutionary innovations for this model, so let’s review the key technical parameters based on the usual scheme.

The device, named HX03W, is apparently a low-end piece, yet of course we approached it with confidence, without bias. I don’t deny that I was expecting an outstanding production at the sight of the Lenovo name, so sometimes I had to look at the price tag to “get back on the ground”.

Preparations

Simply hold your finger on the capacitive touch screen until the widget gives a vital sign - approx. 6 seconds. If that doesn’t happen, we don’t have to panic either, try uploading the tool. After you turn it on, you can come to the Lenovo Healthy app, which is the official utility, but more on that later.

I have to note, I wasn’t completely happy with the HX03W OLED display, the screen is pretty hard to read in this bright sunshine. It’s a shame, because otherwise the motion monitor is definitely practical, thanks to which the watch automatically turns on as soon as we raise our hands.

The battery has a standby time of 7 days on paper, I would say that realistically it is worth calculating 4-5 days, charging can be done via the USB port. Well, it wasn't a last "adventure" either…

Use

The lightweight bracelet does not disturb a lot of water, the strap is precisely adjustable, so the gadget is comfortable to use. The first bumps came when it was time to feed. You can slide down the part of the strap that is closer to the touch button to reveal that particular USB port. Well, it’s a light hand gesture on paper, but in reality, the operation went unexpectedly hard. The strap did not intend to leave the central element with noble simplicity, if I had looked at a heart rate at that time, I would certainly have been able to read a three-digit value from the display. “If it breaks, if it breaks” fortunately didn’t materialize, I ended up just succeeding after the charging was already unhindered - I simply put the stuff on a charging head.

I note that I managed to think of the above problem until then, in the end I haven’t experimented with a method that makes it easy and safe to remove the strap - of course I’ll share that with you later!

I suspect the strap is such a “sticky type” because the USB port isn’t exactly a natural medium for water, and this gadget is IP68 protected (fully protected from dust and can be used continuously underwater). Incidentally, this is evidenced by a number of videos on Youtube, and I can confirm that it can be washed boldly under running water. This is definitely a thing that strengthens the practicality, as we will sweat meaningfully during sports, and then sooner or later it will not hurt to wash the bracelet - for those who like to keep their smart gadgets clean and in a new condition, it is a great relief.

Experiences

Let’s start with the basics first. By default, the Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W shows the current time, battery charge status, and date. It is worth mentioning that the opening image is modest but customizable: in addition to the classic clock face, there are also two digital ones, one of which goes for better visibility and the other aims to take advantage of the proportional screen surface. You can roam in the menu with a short tap, and the function selection and confirmation is done with a long "press". I think in a worse case, in two afternoons, we’ll feel perfect for it even if it’s our first smart bracelet.

oops the pusher is not visalo

I don't think you will be unexpectedly affected by the fact that the HX03W vibrates to alert us when we have an incoming call, a new message, a new notification from a social site, and so on. The vibration intensity can be adjusted in three steps, so I assume everyone will find the one that is most comfortable for them.

With regard to the pedometer, it is somewhat strange that the slight oversize experienced with the predecessor model (HX01) is also present here. Obviously, such a low-priced product cannot be expected to have perfect accuracy, accordingly approx. A 5 percent deviation from reality is included in the deck. The distance traveled, on the other hand, was already underestimated by the bracelet, the 800-meter sections came out less, but fortunately the difference is not dramatic here either - anyone who is very bothered by this can pinpoint it with the phone's GPS system. In fact, from a sports point of view, this is ideal, a slight overestimation of the number of steps can provide increased motivation, and underestimating the distance will prompt you to do extra meters.

The heart rate monitor was definitely a pleasant surprise in the sense that it proved to be perfectly (!) Reliable - I checked it with a wrist blood pressure monitor. It seems that the HX03W can be a great choice for this purpose. The bracelet automatically performs a measurement every quarter hour, so over time, the app develops a smaller database of heartbeats - somewhat of a 24-hour ECG scan nature. We have a good idea, we will be able to keep track of how well we can withstand high-intensity workouts.

The sleep monitor is merely for our scientific curiosity, unable to awaken it in the (theoretically) optimal period, or only I could not conjure it out of it. The sleep monitor can also be used while driving, in which case the bracelet will try to keep us awake with vibrations when we start to fall asleep - the necessary setting can be found in the application. It is important to arm this service only if you have been able to find the comfort vibration strength beforehand!

App

The almost complete knowledge of the Lenovo Healthy app can be presented with the images below - which I have now borrowed from the Google Play Store. The app obviously fits the capabilities of the HX03W, so it won’t cause earthquake-like surprises: statistics on our activity, pedometer, sleep monitoring, alarm handling. In order to have a more authentic calorie count, it is advisable to enter the main parameters required for this (body weight, height, age), and it is advisable to go through the section where we can control in detail what notifications we want to receive: Skype, e-mail, Facebook, WeChat, etc.

There are some more practical things (adjustable vibration intensity, warning if you sit for a long time, heart rate measurement that can be started manually), these are also worth noting to the owner.

Lenovo Healthy does not have the brightest rating: 3,1 out of 7 based on user reviews. Most opinions refer to the remarkably high energy demand, but there were also those who already had problems connecting. Lenovo updates the app frequently, and perhaps the situation will improve over time.

buckle

Tips:

The rubber strap is good for both thin and thick wrists, the easiest way to attach and remove it is to hold the buckle tilted when picking up, then push the bottom of the hole first, then the top. When removing, gently push it down and then pull it in our direction at the same time so that the upper plastic pegs pop out easily. Then, moving it slightly upwards, the lower element also releases the strap without resistance. Since the strap is not replaceable and the buckle is made of plastic, it does not hurt to handle it gently. Even if the maneuver seems complicated at first, I’m sure the reader of these lines will realize it sharply in a flash, because that’s simply the logic of the buckled system.

As I mentioned above, the strap attaches fairly fairly to the central element. Well, I developed the following method for taking it:

  • First we look for some smaller, preferably plastic object that we can use as a “wedge”.
  • Pull the strap back and down at the same time, then tighten something to prevent the strap from slipping back.
  • Once we’re done with that, we can easily pull the strap off as you can see from the GIF image above, as we can safely change grips due to the outrigger.

Evaluation

Although we were not entirely satisfied with the Lenovo HX03W bracelet, we nevertheless came to an acceptable entry level because on the one hand it runs at a really overwhelming price and on the other hand it did not produce a catastrophic, unforgivable mistake. Unfortunately, the fact is that its display is difficult to see in sunlight, however, there is a way to “remedy” this; we simply grab our smartphone and we can already read everything in the Healthy app, at the same time we solve the remote measurement with GPS. The other weak point is the uptime, which will be hurt mainly by users like me - I don’t like to spend it often, besides, I don’t use the full capacity of the battery to extend its life -. The heart rate monitor, on the other hand, is really popping up, and the Lenovo Healthy app is updated every 3-4 weeks, so there's a chance that programmers will improve user satisfaction, which isn't very steep right now. Let’s say removing the strap at first was really a separate procedure (maybe they want to encourage you to play sports as well?), If I want to be benign, I attribute this to IP68 protection.

In my humble opinion, there is a prospect in the gadget during the promotional period, because the competition is definitely less than $ 19,99 (Flash Sale price), and then it is easier to forgive the stumbling blocks. By implication, the logo below is for that price.
