KugooKirin S1 Pro - a cheap e-scooter that meets the rules

Watch the scooter in action in my video test:

Introductory

We are living in an era of micromobility because of the sparse amount of electric vehicles. Electric scooters, electric bicycles, electric scooters with one and two wheels, the supply is huge. However, there is a huge problem with these structures, the TRAFFIC says most of them don’t even exist.

KugooKirin S1 Pro - cheap e-scooter that meets the rules 1

So far, only one group, bicycles, has been regulated. There is no need for a license and insurance for vehicles with a power not exceeding 250 watts and where the drive can only operate with the aid of a pedal drive and it also switches off above 25 Km / h.

One of the best news in recent weeks has been that it looks like the scooters will also be regulated, we will finally know what and how it will be legal, where we can ride, what is legal and what is not.

KugooKirin S1 Pro - cheap e-scooter that meets the rules 2

Well, for the scooter in the article, if the leaked regulation proves to be real, chances are you won’t need any special exams or permits, but it comes at a price. I'll talk about this price in the last chapter, and in the meantime let's see what the scooter knows!

Packing, assembly

Large and heavy cardboard box with minimal accessory or rather accessory and the roller itself. Of course, there isn’t much to mount, it’s not a LEGO, it’s better if an uninitiated hand doesn’t touch it more seriously.

Most of the roller is lifted out of the box all at once, just an Allen key, four screws and the steering horn, which is separate. Well, the description for use, which will come in handy for new Kugoo users.

KugooKirin S1 Pro - cheap e-scooter that meets the rules 3

The assembly for this scooter is therefore to plug the cable connector in the steering column into the cable connector on the steering horn. The horn is then slid into the rod, secured with two screws at the front and rear, and the vehicle is ready to go.

The only accessory point you need for assembly is that it is nothing more than a set of Allen keys. Useful gift, thank you!

abilities

Dry technical data can also come!

KugooKirin S1 Pro - cheap e-scooter that meets the rules 4

The vehicle has a gross weight of less than 18 pounds, making it easy to carry. This weight also had to fit the aluminum frame and other components, the 7,5 Ah (36 V) battery and the 350 watt motor.

Let's see the details!

The S1 Pro measures 110 x 42,5 x 109 centimeters when open and 110 x 42,5 x 36 centimeters when closed. The width of the handlebar is 42,5 inches, the tread surface on which we stand is 14,5 inches wide and is approx. 50 inches long. The scooter has a load capacity of 120 pounds.

KugooKirin S1 Pro - cheap e-scooter that meets the rules 5

The charging time of the battery is 4-5 hours, with one charge we can cover 30 kilometers according to the paper shape. The overcoming ascent can be up to 15 degrees. There is IP45 water protection and there is also Bluetooth (I will write about this later), the maximum load capacity is 120 kilograms.

I think I described everything the roller data sheet wanted to let us know. Now may come a longer chapter, the rollerblading itself.

Experiences

This is what everyone cares about anyway, so let's get into it!

The manufacturer writes 350 watts of power and a maximum speed of 30 km / h. We get 3 operating modes, ECO (maximum 10 Km / h), normal (maximum 20 Km / h) and sport (maximum 30 Km / h). The choice of modes also has an effect on acceleration and top speed, so they are not only good for saving energy, but also for beginners not to feel in danger.

KugooKirin S1 Pro - cheap e-scooter that meets the rules 6

During use, two things quickly became apparent. One is that it is not possible to drive more than 30 km / h on a slope, with a headwind, according to the mileage. He suspects the counter is out at thirty. On good asphalt, especially with the help of a very slight slope, the speed of 30 kilometers can be achieved quickly, even by rubbing the glaze from below. With less weight, acceleration can be even more dynamic.

The other is that even 30 kilometers given for a range seems a very optimistic estimate, I would rather put the distance realistically at 22-24 kilometers, at least if we use the scooter sparingly.

KugooKirin S1 Pro - cheap e-scooter that meets the rules 7

Of course, these two figures can vary greatly from our body weight and topographic conditions, and if you are a 60-pound Chinese man or you may have the factory’s promises fulfilled.

This sounds crappy, but it's not a dangerous thing in life, on a scooter with an 8-inch wheel, speeds above 20 km / h are already quite good, if at this speed you will need a helmet. So this speed should not be underestimated either.

KugooKirin S1 Pro - cheap e-scooter that meets the rules 8

However, there is a bigger problem, and that is the hill-climbing ability. The 15 degrees given by the factory is a bit of an exaggeration, I’m not saying it doesn’t go up, but it sweats heavily. Around 10 degrees the situation is not yet dangerous. So if you live in a hilly place with steep roads, this will not be your rollered. Of course, in this case, you may not even be rollered, but why in the summary, I will describe at the end of the article.

KugooKirin S1 Pro - cheap e-scooter that meets the rules 9

Closely related to speed is the theme of brakes. Well, I have mixed experiences with that. Not bad, mixed.

There is an electric brake and there is a tread. Unfortunately, the disc brake was no longer included in the price. The electric brake lever is located on the left handle, it can be dispensed quite well with your thumb by pressing the lever. Braking harder at higher speeds suddenly results in quite a lot of force, but not enough to get over the steering wheel. That's good so far!

KugooKirin S1 Pro - cheap e-scooter that meets the rules 10

It’s not so good that the electric brake doesn’t stop the scooter from a higher speed, if we “race” down a slope, it’s even less so. In this case, the foot brake remains, ie the rear fender is pressed against the rear wheel. Of course, I have to add to that if the electric brake were a lot more biting I would actually get through the steering wheel, so somewhere understandably they didn’t make it stronger.

KugooKirin S1 Pro - cheap e-scooter that meets the rules 11

In the case of the KugooKirin S1 Pro, it is not very possible to attach it to the frame, and so to the design in general. If I really want something, the front wheel would have damping, which isn’t something steely, or so to speak, essentially none. Fortunately, however (as opposed to most similarly priced scooters), the rear wheel has got pretty good damping, so you don’t have to kick all the bumps out of your knees, the structure dampens the punches pretty well.

KugooKirin S1 Pro - cheap e-scooter that meets the rules 12

This is a must, because as I have already written, the wheel is 8 inches, and it is not balloon-free, but it does not explode. The advantage of this is in its name, you will never get a puncture, in return you can’t play with air pressure either, and so the rubber is pretty hard. In other words, the point is that the use is not so good on a poor quality road, and you should not even try it in the field.

KugooKirin S1 Pro - cheap e-scooter that meets the rules 13

IF the road is of poor quality, the rear shock absorber will help a lot, just as if e.g. you want to get off a sidewalk or don't let god jump you up. The thing is absolutely solvable. It’s joyful, and the quality of the assembly shows that even on a very shaky road, we don’t feel like the scooter wants to tear under us. It doesn’t rattle, it doesn’t ring, or at least very minimally.

The underfoot is wide enough, long enough, comfortable for those with larger feet. The structure is strong, but as much as it can be carved out of its weight, so it is not impossible to carry. The stuff is alive. The charging connector was given a cap, which is useful because it was placed in a rather silly place behind the front wheel. It could be some Kugoo disease, but if they haven’t changed it so far, it might just be poking my eyes, and there’s nothing wrong with it anyway.

KugooKirin S1 Pro - cheap e-scooter that meets the rules 14

If I’ve already mentioned carrying two things. One of the things that I like about folding and unfolding is the orange pedal at the bottom of the handlebar. What was left out (let's say it didn't fit in the price) was that I would have liked the steering horn to be folded down. It doesn't cause a problem, I would have just given one more red dot.

Now a few words about treatment.

Basically no problem in this area. I wrote above that the electric brake is on the left, no the throttle and on the right. This, too, as the brake can be handled with one finger, can be dosed well, we will not fall off the high acceleration.

KugooKirin S1 Pro - cheap e-scooter that meets the rules 15

In the middle of the steering column we find the display, which is quite visible even in sunlight. The more important things can be read about it like the amount of charge in the battery, the speed, the distance traveled, the mode in which we use the scooter, so the point is there.

KugooKirin S1 Pro - cheap e-scooter that meets the rules 16

There are no buttons, so there is only one, with which we can turn the scooter on and off. By pressing this we can change the operating modes (and thus also the final speed) and by pressing this twice we can turn on the lights. We can also find a lamp at the front and back, which is positive, and the front is well lit. It is important that when using the electric brake, the tail light flashes, so we essentially got a brake light as well.

KugooKirin S1 Pro - cheap e-scooter that meets the rules 17

By the end of the treatment, Bluetooth. Nowadays, with more and more scooters, we get a Bluetooth connection and an app, through which we can see the mileage and set various functions. Well, the KugooKirin S1 Pro also has Bluetooth, but interestingly, there is no app we can use with it. At least I got this information from a Geekbuying staff member.

KugooKirin S1 Pro - cheap e-scooter that meets the rules 18

It took at least three hours of my life to try to pair the roller’s Bluetooth connection with my phones in different ways. I also used three phones and a tablet in my pain, but nothing. So it’s interesting that you have Bluetooth, but you can’t use it. Maybe one day later…

The point is, how to ride it!

It’s basically good, though there are limits to its use. The 350 watt motor doesn’t cut off our heads, there’s no sea of torque. The 8-inch wheels are pretty tough, luckily the rear shock absorbers are good, but you still want good quality asphalt or paving stone. Fortunately, in cities, this is not an unachievable condition.

KugooKirin S1 Pro - cheap e-scooter that meets the rules 19

The steering is wide enough that we don’t feel uncomfortable, as I wrote our feet also have room. As a maximum speed, I think that 25-30 km per hour is just enough. At this speed, we can get to shop or work in the city in the foreseeable future, and we might not be in danger of life. Plus, it’s a tricky speed because we don’t feel fast on the fly, but believe me, jacketing with 30 isn’t pleasant.

So, if I don't wear a helmet, if I don't record the video for the test, I'm wearing it too, caution doesn't hurt!

As I wrote, you will not climb the mountains of Buda with it, but we have many cities where there are not that mountains, but not even hills, so there is plenty of room to use it.

KugooKirin S1 Pro - cheap e-scooter that meets the rules 20

The electric brake is enough for normal, flat use, if you have to step on the rear fender more, it will stop the structure really quickly.

Summary

Let’s start there, the KugooKirin S1 Pro is not a smooth Kugoo. The Kirin series always gives a little more than the Kugoo, so the S1 Pro also gives more than the Kugoo S1 or S1 Pro. To say the least, the structure looks stronger, better put together. So the bottom line is, the KugooKirin S1 Pro is kind of top notch in its class in the manufacturer’s palette.

KugooKirin S1 Pro - cheap e-scooter that meets the rules 21

Compared to that, however, it’s a bit dewy, but it’s not even that big of a problem!

On the one hand, it is cheap, but perhaps not its greatest virtue, but the fact that it seems to fit the bone of the leaked TRAFFIC modification, which determines what an electric is like in reality. That is, the electric scooter as such is finally becoming a reality for the law as well.

According to this, the scooters will belong to two groups. There will be low-power and high-performance scooters. The latter are governed by the provisions for mopeds, ie the wearing of a helmet, compulsory insurance and a license will be mandatory.

KugooKirin S1 Pro - cheap e-scooter that meets the rules 22

Obviously, they will also be subject to regulations on alcohol consumption, but they will also apply to low-power ones. In addition, there are rules for the front and rear lights, the brake light and the turn signal.

There will be low-power scooters with which we can run freely. These are limited to a maximum of 350 watts of motor and a maximum of 25 kilometers per hour of self-power.

This means that the KugooKirin S1 Pro just fits into the unlicensed category when you take the power, and the two-speed can be up to 20km per hour. In three gears, the speed is no longer 25 but 30 Km / h, so here the rule will be a bit tighter. The point is, whoever takes this scooter doesn’t have a good chance of having to ask the police for a license for a certificate.

KugooKirin S1 Pro - cheap e-scooter that meets the rules 23

Now, here comes the next problem.

Many people say that you simply shouldn’t buy such a cheap and “weak” scooter because you can’t go with it. However, if we want to meet the new standards, we will have very little choice but these four:

  • You buy a strong scooter, take the exam, equip it with everything you need and take out insurance for it
  • You buy a weaker scooter that doesn't climb a mountain, but you drive on flat terrain with a wide grin and you're not afraid of authority either
  • You don’t buy a scooter, you prefer to buy a bike or take public transportation
  • You go with your high-performance scooter without a license, exam, without anything, and if you get caught, you pay as a military officer

And there is no fifth variation. I’m saying if you live in a place where a 350 watt scooter is enough, feel free to buy one. If you live in a place where there are a lot of harder ascents, you will be left with a stronger roller for the exam or electric bike.

KugooKirin S1 Pro - cheap e-scooter that meets the rules 24

So in summary!

The KugooKirin S1 Pro is not a powerplant, but it is perfectly suited to what it was invented for, ie urban transport without climbing. It can be used well, it accelerates and brakes properly, it has a proper range. That is, what you promise is what you promise, plus it’s affordable, since we get it for the price of a lower-end phone.

In addition, as Geekbuying is Kugoo's official European distributor, there is a possibility that in the event of a irreparable defect, only the scooter should be returned to the EU, not to China. For this purchase, you need to tick the "Add EU Local Return Service to your order" field, and the surcharge for the service is only HUF 1600.

The end of the price! Luckily, we have a very good relationship with our European distributor, Geekbuying, so we were able to request a coupon for a quota of 30 pieces. With this, we get a HUF 10 discount on the otherwise expensive scooter, so instead of HUF 500 we can buy it from a European warehouse for HUF 108. Everything usually arrives to me within 300-97 calendar days after ordering, but the distributor prefers to write 800-3 working days, for sure, which is bustos.

So, if you liked the scooter, you can add the scooter to the basket at the link below and use the NNNHOCHU22 Coupon code:
