A significant portion of Ryzen owners are likely to go to hell for the manufacturer, at least for sure if this letter is confirmed.

Is MSI preparing for a serious suction? (updated!)

TechPowerUp unveiled a letter yesterday that will certainly not put joy on the faces of AM4 motherboard owners. As we know, practically since the release of first-generation Zen, AMD has been saying wildly that the platform will have an extremely long lifespan, so the A320, B350 and X370 will be able to accommodate Ryzens for a long time. Accordingly, it was no surprise that the Ryzen 2000 ran smoothly with the aforementioned chipsets after a BIOS update, and it also seemed logical that this would be the case for the Ryzen 3000 as well.

Here comes the letter above, which asks a user question that only the B450 and X470 will be able to run the new generation processors. There are clearly conflicts of interest here, as it is desirable for users and AMD to have a platform with a brutally long lifespan, but motherboard manufacturers are not really happy about it, as this maneuver deprives them of serious revenue. It’s easily possible, at this point, MSI is drawing a line on support, so for boards with the 300 series of chipsets, we need to catch up with the Ryzen 2000 generation. Nor should we have any doubt that if this happens, the other manufacturers will also think carefully about this step. We also have a tip for the rationale: the power supply for the new Zen places demands that older motherboards can’t handle.

Update!

According to the latest MSI announcement, the support department misinformed the customer, so the above information is (in principle) incorrect!
