Rogbid SR09 smart ring: what is this article about?

I've been eyeing smart rings for quite some time now. Well, I'm not telling the whole truth, as they haven't been on the market for very long, so I can't have been following them for that long. Let's just say that I've been following the market ever since I first heard about them. I've been looking at the products that are coming out, the capabilities, and when this wearable smart device category will become affordable.

Well, this moment has come, today we can get not only cheap, versatile, but also showy rings for our money!

I'll note, and this will be important for the evaluation, that I absolutely don't like jewelry, but not only that, but also watches. I don't wear anything on weekdays. Sometimes I wear a smart bracelet or an activity tracker on my wrist while exercising, but that's about it. I don't wear rings, I've never had a necklace, so in that sense I'm not the best test subject to test a smart ring.

The field of personal health monitoring has undergone quite a transformation in recent years. Until now, fitness tracking devices have mostly appeared in the form of watches and bracelets worn on the wrist, but today we have representatives of a completely new category: smart rings. These small, finger-worn devices offer the same measurement functions as their larger counterparts, but with their discreet appearance and almost unnoticeable nature, they open up completely new possibilities in the field of continuous health monitoring.

The Rogbid SR09 smart ring is quite unique in this segment. While most smart rings strive for a simple, minimalist design, this model boldly chooses a different path. The silver surface decorated with vintage-style patterns does not try to hide the fact that it is a technological device - on the contrary, it proudly embraces its unique appearance. I can safely say that this device is not only a functional accessory, but also a stylish piece of jewelry.

The technical specifications of the Rogbid SR09 are impressive: 24-hour heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen measurement, sleep tracking, and support for multiple sports modes are among the promised features. The 5ATM water resistance allows you to wear it while swimming, while gesture control provides convenient functions such as taking photos or turning off alarms with simple hand movements.

Rogbid SR09 Smart Ring: When the Past Meets the Future

The Rogbid SR09 smart ring looks completely different from most other smart rings on the market. While most of the competition prefers a subtle, minimal design, this model is deliberately designed to stand out and does so well. The “Vintage Silver” design features a silver base with black, detailed patterns. This bold design choice clearly sets the SR09 apart from other smart rings on the market.

The physical parameters of the ring are particularly favorable for everyday wear. With a weight of only 2,7-3 grams, it is one of the lightest smart rings, which makes it practically unnoticeable on the finger. The titanium material and carbon fiber coating not only guarantee durability, but also significantly increase scratch resistance. The manufacturer offers the product in six different sizes, between sizes 8 (18,1 mm inner diameter) and 13 (22,2 mm inner diameter), so you can find a suitable version for almost every finger size.

There are no conventional controls or buttons on the outer surface of the ring. The device is operated entirely via the accompanying smartphone application or via built-in gesture control. This solution preserves the elegant, uniform appearance of the ring and avoids the risk of small buttons failing. The sensors are located on the inner side of the ring, on the surface in contact with the palm of the finger, where the skin is relatively thin, thus providing optimal conditions for accurate measurements.

The charging solution is modern and practical: it can be connected to the included charging cable or to the charging case contact via magnetic charging. There is no visible charging connector on the ring, the magnetic contacts are discreetly integrated into the design. This solution is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also advantageous in terms of water resistance, as there is no need for separate openings to be protected. The simplicity of the charging process is especially important for a device that needs to be charged regularly, even daily.

The practical significance of the 5ATM water resistance rating is that the ring can withstand water pressure up to a depth of 50 meters. This means that it can be safely worn not only during everyday hand washing or showering, but also while swimming. The IP68 protection also ensures dust and dirt resistance, so the ring is actually suitable for continuous, 24-hour wear in various life situations.

The sensor window on the inner surface of the ring indicates active measurement with a small LED light, which helps to check whether the device is in the correct position on the finger. Unfortunately, there is no clear marking to show the correct wearing position - this deficiency can make it difficult to obtain accurate measurement results, especially during initial use. Users must figure out for themselves that the sensors need to be worn on the palm side for proper operation.

Rogbid SR09 Smart Ring Specifications: Maximum Performance in a Compact Size

The heart of the Rogbid SR09 smart ring is the AC6323 chipset, which ensures stable operation and energy-efficient data processing. The 4 MB RAM memory provides sufficient capacity to store all measurement data and ensure smooth synchronization. Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity enables fast and reliable communication with smartphones running Android 5.1 or higher or iOS 8.0 or higher. This wide compatibility guarantees cooperation with practically all mobile devices in use.

The backbone of the health monitoring functions is the Goodix GH3018 heart rate sensor, which enables continuous, 24-hour heart rate monitoring. The device also monitors blood oxygen saturation through SpO2 measurement, which can be especially important in cases of sleep apnea or other breathing problems. The SC7A20H motion sensor ensures accurate activity tracking, step counting and recognition of various sports modes. These sensors work together to provide a comprehensive picture of the user's health.

The power supply is provided by a 20 mAh lithium-polymer battery, which, according to the manufacturer, allows for 3-5 days of active use and 7-10 days of operation in standby mode. The charging time is optimized: with magnetic charging, the full capacity can be charged in just 1-2 hours. This combination of short charging time and long operating time is extremely practical for everyday use, especially for sleep tracking.

In terms of sports options, the SR09 supports eight different activities: running, cycling, skipping, hiking, climbing, yoga, golf and dancing. Each sport mode has specific measurement parameters that are optimized according to the type of activity. GPS connectivity allows you to record running and cycling routes, while calorie burn, pace and distance data are available for all sports.

The water resistance specifications are particularly outstanding: the 5ATM rating provides protection up to 50 meters of water depth, while the IP68 and IP69K certifications guarantee protection against dust, water and high-pressure cleaners. The carbon fiber surface treatment and titanium material combine to ensure mechanical resistance and longevity. The ring is available in six sizes, ranging from 18,1 mm to 22,2 mm internal diameter.

App support is provided through a free mobile app called Smart Health, available on both iOS and Android platforms. The app not only allows you to manage your personal data, but also to track the health data of family members – this can be especially useful for elderly relatives. The gesture control function allows you to take photos, control music playback or turn off alarms with simple hand movements.

In terms of technical specifications, the SR09 offers competitive parameters in its category. The combination of a compact 2,7 gram weight, an advanced sensor set and a long battery life results in a device that not only stands its ground from a technical point of view, but also meets high expectations in terms of everyday practicality.

Rogbid SR09 smart ring and the Smart Health app

To use the Rogbid SR09 smart ring, you will need the Smart Health mobile application, which is available for free on both Android and iOS platforms. The application's user interface is simple and clear (we can even say puritanical), divided into three main menu items. The home page provides a single view of all important health data, including daily step count, heart rate data, sleep statistics and blood oxygen level values. The graphical display of data helps you identify trends and track long-term health goals.

Under the Sports menu, users can choose from eight different activities: running, cycling, skipping rope, hiking, climbing, yoga, golf and dancing. After activating each sport mode, the ring starts a special measurement protocol that records parameters optimized for the given activity. In the case of running and cycling, GPS data is also saved, which can be viewed later on a map. The application displays the heart rate measured during the workout, distance covered, pace and calories burned in real time, which can be especially motivating during training.

One of the unique features of the app is the family health monitoring option, which is available under the Care menu. Here, you can add family members to the app and remotely monitor their health data. This can be especially useful for elderly parents or relatives with health problems. The app sends notifications if any of the family members' health parameters show unusual values, such as high heart rate or low blood oxygen levels.

Sleep monitoring provides a detailed analysis of your night's rest. The application not only records the duration of sleep, but also analyzes the different phases of sleep: deep sleep, light sleep and REM phases. The morning summary graphically presents the quality of sleep and makes suggestions for improving your rest. The application also generates long-term statistics, based on which changes and trends in sleep patterns can be identified.

Data syncing occurs automatically as soon as the ring connects to the phone via Bluetooth. The app works offline, and data syncs later when the connection is restored. Users can customize their goals: daily steps, calories burned, or sleep time. The app also includes gamification elements, such as awarding virtual rewards for achievements and goals.

Another shortcoming of the app is that it doesn’t offer any interpretive features or aggregate health scores, like the Oura Ring. The data is presented in raw form, without any interpretation help or advice. It also lacks educational content (at least in Hungarian, but not much in English either), meditation guides, or workout programs, which are standard features in other premium apps. However, the free use is a significant advantage over competing solutions, which often charge a monthly subscription fee for full functionality.

Rogbid SR09 smart ring: Practical experiences

Besides using it for the first few weeks, I felt it was important (and good) that the ring looked good in my opinion. Or at least it suits me! It's probably the first piece of "jewelry" that I can feel is mine and that suits me. The 2,7 gram weight is really barely noticeable, and the titanium construction is pleasant to the touch - although it's undeniable that it feels a bit "cheap" when you look at the pattern up close. So it's definitely not something made by a jeweler.

The experience of wearing it is mixed. Of course, it is absolutely not bothersome, it is just as heavy as if I had a traditional ring of a similar size on my finger. The edges are rounded, which also makes it comfortable to use, as well as the fact that the sensors on the inside do not protrude from the surface. So basically, it is no different from a plain ring in terms of wearing it.

We tried it: Rogbid SR09 smart ring test - Vintage design meets modern technology 18

However, this is not a simple ring, this is a smart ring, where it is important to measure normally. They draw our attention to the fact that the sensors should be on the side of the new lower palm, because the skin is thinner there, the measurement is more accurate. The problem is that nothing outside the ring shows where the sensors are, so if the ring rotates (because why wouldn't it rotate) the accuracy of the measurements will be below the frog's ass.

As an example, I can mention my cycling measurements, when I also had the upper arm heart rate monitor for the cycling computer on me, and there was no correlation between this and the data measured by the ring. So I definitely write this among the shortcomings, because during the day I don't constantly check whether the ring is facing the right way or not, so there is not much point in continuous measurement.

We tried it: Rogbid SR09 smart ring test - Vintage design meets modern technology 19

This surprised me because I measured quite good values at rest. The heart rate measurement differed from the data measured by the upper arm blood pressure monitor only within the margin of error. I could clearly see on the sleep monitor when I woke up at night, and that seemed thorough. The blood oxygen level also seems good, as does the step count. So almost everything is good.

I won't write about the blood pressure measurement here, because it seems like there's a bit of cheating there. There's a point in the settings called blood pressure measurement calibration. After I set this (I set it to the values of the upper arm monitor), it always measured suspiciously around the set value. Now, if someone believes in miracles, I'll tell them that the ring measures blood pressure really well. If you don't believe in miracles, I'll tell you that it randomly measures your blood pressure around the value set during calibration. Choose from the two options to your liking.

We tried it: Rogbid SR09 smart ring test - Vintage design meets modern technology 20

The most critical point, however, is the issue of correct positioning. The ring's functionality depends entirely on the sensors being positioned on the palm side, where the skin is thinnest. Unfortunately, there is no clear marking on the ring to show the correct orientation. In practice, this means that you can only be sure that you are wearing it in the correct position if you see the sensor LED flashing or regularly check the app. This is a serious drawback, as the ring naturally rotates on the finger during the day.

Regarding the measurements, I dare say that the Goodix GH3018 sensor is a truly high-quality component, it performs the realistically expected measurements well, and we should not stress about what is not realistically expected.

One thing I noticed about the sports features is that although the app uses the phone's location, the route line on the map in the app doesn't follow the road at all, it's as if I were cycling in a straight line between points A and B. This is pretty weird.

In terms of battery life, unfortunately, it did not reach the 10 days promised by the manufacturer. In real conditions, the average usage time was a maximum of 4-5 days with continuous measurements. This is not catastrophic, but it still lags behind the premium competition. The magnetic charging, on the other hand, is extremely practical – the device can be fully charged in 1-2 hours, and the magnetic connection is reliable. You don't have to look for the contact, the cable also snaps into place exactly and the Rogbid SR09 smart ring almost jumps into the right place in the charging box by itself.

We tried it: Rogbid SR09 smart ring test - Vintage design meets modern technology 21

There are a few other things I didn't like. For example, the gesture control function, which the manufacturer's advertising materials emphasize, in practice I couldn't get it to work for either taking pictures or turning off the alarm. I also didn't realize that I could add family members to friends. This would be one of the great smarts of the ring, because if you buy such a ring for your elderly parent, you can monitor, for example, the heart rate measurement or the sleep monitor, or even the step count. In this case, I'm not saying that the function doesn't work, I can only say that I couldn't get it to work for me.

Finally, there is one more problem, the issue of size. The manufacturer will provide both the diameter and circumference of the ring. The latter is perhaps the most important, since our fingers do not have a uniformly round profile.

To choose the right size ring, you need to measure the circumference of your finger. I did this, and I had to order the largest ring. I must admit that I was surprised by this, but I figured that Chinese people are smaller, and their hands must be smaller than the average European.

We tried it: Rogbid SR09 smart ring test - Vintage design meets modern technology 22

Although I tried to measure the circumference precisely, the ring I received was large. Let's say I initially thought that I have 5 fingers on one hand, all of them different sizes, so it would only fit one of them. In the end, it fit my middle finger, but even here it could be smaller. So the point is that in my case (I emphasize my case) it would have been enough to buy a ring one size smaller than the one I measured.

Honestly, I missed two things from the capabilities. One is the lack of NFC and NFC payment, but this is only available in premium solutions for now. The other, which is already available in 20-euro rings, is body temperature monitoring.

Rogbid SR09 smart ring final verdict: Stylish looks, mixed performance

The Rogbid SR09 smart ring left me with an ambivalent impression when I tested it. The product's greatest strength is undoubtedly its unique appearance - the vintage patterns and detailed design really set it apart from other smart rings on the market. If you like striking jewelry and consider it important for your technological devices to be stylish, you will find the SR09 to be your best bet. The titanium construction and carbon fiber coating provide a promising foundation for long-term use, while the 2,7 gram weight ensures comfortable wear.

From a technical perspective, the smart ring wasn't exactly good, but it wasn't bad either. The eight sports modes, 5ATM water resistance, and detailed sleep analysis are all features that make the device competitive in its category. And the free Smart Health app is a significant advantage over those that charge a monthly subscription fee for their services.

We tried it: Rogbid SR09 smart ring test - Vintage design meets modern technology 23

However, during practical use, several serious problems arose. The most critical is the lack of correct positioning, as there is no clear marking on the ring, it is difficult to ensure that the sensors are always in the right place. This can cause measurement deviations of up to 10 percentage points. The battery life falls short of the manufacturer's promises, but this is not a serious problem, I can put it in the charging case for a few hours every few days. Gesture control simply does not work - the latter is particularly problematic, since it is a specifically advertised function. Adding a friend (family member) did not work for me either, but as I wrote, I do not rule out that I messed something up, especially since in the tests found online, others wrote that it worked for them.

Overall, the price-performance ratio is quite acceptable: the product, available in the $30-60 price range, offers a lot of features and is suitable for basic health monitoring. It is especially recommended for those who are looking for an entry-level smart ring, do not require premium features, and for whom a striking design is important. The option of family health monitoring (if you can set it up) adds additional value to the product, especially for users with elderly relatives.

Ultimately, the Rogbid SR09 smart ring is an interesting attempt to make smart rings not only functional but also aesthetically appealing. While it has shortcomings in several areas, it is suitable for basic health monitoring and offers a stylish alternative for those who are not satisfied with traditional, minimally designed smart rings. Those who know and accept its limitations can get an affordable, unique-looking device that meets basic health tracking needs.
