Introduction, or what is this article about?

KuKirin is no longer an unknown brand. The company has gone through crazy development in the past few years, so we can probably say that it has become the market leader in our country. At least in our country, because I hardly see anything else on the roads except KuKirin, and sometimes a Xiaomi (or a Xiaomi clone). If KuKirin is the market leader, then the G2 is the best-selling model in the range (and I really see the most of it). This is no wonder, because on the one hand it boasts a really good price-value ratio, and on the other hand it is perhaps the best-performing model in the range (if I don't count the G5 Pro that I use, because I think it beats everything, although not in terms of power).

The G2 has been the best-selling KuKirin model for a year and a half, so it's no wonder the manufacturer started thinking about whether it wouldn't be a good idea to somehow fill the gap between it and the much more powerful Master (2 x 1000 watts). It's not a gap, but rather a damn big gap, because the Kukirin G2, with its 800 watts, is definitely not an asphalt shredder, and it certainly bleeds on larger climbs.

The company has probably studied the market's needs carefully. The average commuter doesn't want a super-fast monster, but rather a reliable, comfortable way to get from A to B. Uphills, bumps, and various terrains are all challenges that the average scooter, for one reason or another, doesn't handle well. The KuKirin G2 Ultra attempts to address these issues.

Over the past few years, KuKirin has gradually introduced innovations that have now come together in this device. They learned from the previously tested G2 models, incorporated user feedback, and finally created a product that truly performs differently. The dual motor concept is no longer limited to the more expensive segment, but with the KuKirin G2 Ultra, it has become available in the reasonable price range as well.

It is also important to mention that the design language has been renewed with the KuKirin G2 Ultra. The handlebar lock, the futuristic integrated touchscreen, the new steering column suggest that KuKirin has not only developed a product, but has rethought the entire category with the G2 Ultra. This scooter is for those who are tired of average, gray solutions and want something that really works and looks great!

The KuKirin G2: Functionality and Style Go Hand in Hand

The KuKirin G2 Ultra provides a satisfactory answer to the eternal dilemma that many scooter owners know: should it be beautiful or practical? Here we don't have to choose either, we get both (let's say the A1 suits me better, but tastes and slaps). Actually, if there's one thing I don't like about the scooter, it's this one. Because I feel a little bit that the pedals and forks inherited from the older G2, the industrial design that many people really liked, don't really create a unity with the new steering column and the handlebars on which the brutally good-looking artificial wall of crap is located. In other words, the steering column+handlebars are one unit, one design, the body and chassis are something else entirely.

When you unpack it, the first thing you notice is the handlebars. They are two flattened tubes, connected by a curve at the top and bottom. It reminds me a bit of the aero handlebars on road racing bikes, so it's probably not only stylish, but also good for aerodynamics, if that's important for a scooter that wasn't designed for racing.

The handlebars are really a beautiful piece, the design is really great, at least compared to the previous G2- G4 etc. models. The 65 cm wide bar with a rubberized grip is absolutely comfortable, and since it is wide, it not only provides sufficient support, but also makes it easier to maintain balance. The most eye-catching detail of the scooter is the top of the handlebars. This is a long, integrated touch display that takes up almost the entire width of the handlebars. If this is not, then we can ask futuristic, because at first glance it really looks like the dashboard of a premium car. On the display you can see the speed, the battery level, the mode, and even the speaker is hidden in it. It's crap, we can say, but I'll shade the picture a little later.

The controls are located on the left side of the handlebars. The index button is a joystick, which is quite unique – you can activate the turn signals by tilting it left and right. Next to it is the horn, which is quite high-pitched – not annoying, but it is audible. For lighting control, we get a convenient button that switches between headlight modes with one or more presses. On the right side is the mode selector and the throttle. The throttle is quite exciting – you can accelerate with a thumb lever, or you can twist it like a motorcycle throttle. I like this flexibility.

Starting is the usual key method for KuKirin. It comes with two keys. Simple, safe. There is another element on the handlebar that needs to be mentioned, the front headlight. It gives off a great light and is not at all dim. It has two lighting modes: normal and strong. The scooter can be used at night, and you can see clearly even when you are riding in less lit parts of the city.

Unfortunately, the KuKirin G2 Ultra has the usual and extremely modest brake light at the back, which also functions as a position indicator, brake light and index. I would have been so happy if we had gotten something much better instead. The indexes are dim, as expected, okay at night, but practically invisible during the day. This is a recurring problem with KuKirin, and I really regret that they didn't solve it here either. The step is comfortable and rubberized, it doesn't slip even in wet conditions. It is very large in size: 46 x 19 centimeters, plus a good heel rest. My two feet can even fit next to each other (although not comfortably), so the stance is completely stable and comfortable.

Folding is easy: there is a lever next to the handlebar that you can press to easily fold the handlebar down. The folded size is compact enough for transport, and the device weighs 31 kilograms, which is a bit heavy, but of course there is a reason for this, if it is not for the double motor. All connectors and wires are properly protected, so water has little chance of getting in where it shouldn't.

In terms of dimensions, the KuKirin G2 Ultra measures approximately 1258 x 650 x 1258 millimeters when unfolded, and 1258 x 650 x 545 millimeters when folded. This means that it can be transported in the trunk of an average car. The entire machine is made of a combination of steel and aluminum, which explains the strong, robust feel, and of course, it also guarantees a load capacity of 120 kilograms. The IPX4 protection means that dripping water will not be a problem, but it is not advisable to use it in constant rain.

KuKirin G2 Ultra Specifications: The Power Behind the Scenes

We tested: KuKirin G2 Ultra electric scooter - Proven design, double the power, what could be wrong? 32

The heart (or soul, depending on your preference) of the KuKirin G2 Ultra is the dual motor, to be precise, we get two 800-watt hub motors. This means a total nominal power of 1600 watts, but the peak power (allegedly, I didn't take it for granted) can be up to 2000 watts. This is no longer a game, a system that can overcome medium slopes, and surprisingly dynamically. Perhaps one of the most important pieces of information: this is a permanent all-wheel drive, you can't turn off the front motor. In any mode or speed, the front wheel is always driven. This has its advantages and disadvantages, but overall it strengthens stability.

We tested: KuKirin G2 Ultra electric scooter - Proven design, double the power, what could be wrong? 33

The drive controller is of course sinusoidal, which in theory (and in practice too) promises smoother, jerk-free acceleration. This means that the machine doesn't jump out from under your feet when you start, but a smooth, continuous and not at all scary acceleration occurs. The battery is located in its usual place under the step. It is a 48-volt, 18 ampere-hour battery, which means 864 watt-hours. This is a slightly below average capacity for such a high performance, but the manufacturer promises a range of up to 55 kilometers, which of course is worth treating with reservations, to be honest I would say a maximum of 30-40 kilometers, also depending on driving style.

The charging time with the factory 109-watt charger means 9-10 hours of operation – that’s a whole night. This is not the area where the KuKirin G2 Ultra shines, but it’s still livable. The chassis works with a swingarm, spring suspension at the front and rear, and of course, the usual C-frame at the front. KuKirin solved this well, the suspension does its job very, very well. It elegantly smooths out road imperfections, and even handles larger potholes quite well. The wheels are 10-inch tubeless tires with a light off-road pattern – this reduces the chance of a puncture and improves grip. The off-road pattern is not too aggressive, so road driving remains assertive.

The braking system is what carries the most compromises. In a 31-kilogram, 50-kilometer-per-hour scooter, we find mechanical disc brakes – with 160-millimeter discs at the front and rear, but only Bowden cables. This was clearly a cost-cutting decision on the part of the manufacturer. Hydraulic brakes have a much better braking feel, more stopping power and require less maintenance. However, this does not mean that these mechanical brakes are bad – even if they are not as confident as premium solutions, they still function quite well. The dosing is surprisingly good, as is the braking power, but of course, by the end of the test, the usual brake squeal has arrived. The braking distance is between 6-12 meters, which is acceptable for stopping from dangerous speeds.

The integrated display is truly a technical marvel. The touch panel running the entire width of the handlebars shows the speed, battery level, selected mode, and there is also an integrated speaker that connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth. This means you can navigate with GPS (it tells you when to turn), listen to music. However, the brightness of the display is not very good in sunny conditions - this was clearly noticeable during the test.

The IPX4 protection level of the entire machine means that splashes of water will not be a problem, but it is not advisable to use it in constant rain. This offers a suitable, but not extreme, level of protection. The load capacity is 120 kilograms, which should be enough for large adults.

The basic specifications in brief:

  • 800W + 800W motor,
  • 48V 18Ah battery,
  • 50-55 km/h top speed,
  • 30-40 km real range,
  • 160mm disc brakes,
  • 10 inch wheels,
  • wishbone suspension,
  • 31 kg weight,
  • 120 kg load capacity,
  • IPX4 protection.

The KuKirin G2 Ultra: Connect it to your phone!

In this chapter I have to talk about the display, which has surprising capabilities. The touch panel offers three basic modes: eco, sport and race. In eco mode, the top speed is around 25 kilometers per hour, which guarantees a comfortable, long-range ride. In sport mode, it is around 35 kilometers per hour, while in race mode it reaches speeds of 50-55 kilometers per hour.

The KuKirin G2 Ultra is intuitive to control – the large display allows you to easily switch modes even while driving (by pressing the power button). There is no need to stop and fiddle with the menu options. This is the speed and simplicity that we can expect from a product from a market leader at the end of 2025. The cruise control function allows you to set a constant speed, and the display constantly shows the active mode, battery level, speed in kilometers per hour or miles.

The app – or rather the smartphone integration, because there is no app – is something that can do a lot more than you might think. After connecting via Bluetooth, you can hear the instructions from the navigation app running on your smartphone directly through the speaker in the form of directions. This means you don't have to look at your smartphone – you can hear the instructions using the speaker. This is a great convenience feature that works amazingly well in city traffic. I have to note that the sound didn't come through during Waze, but it did during Google Maps. I have to note that I didn't experiment much with it because it was so cold, so I might have messed something up.

The speaker itself is interesting. It is located under the dashboard of the scooter and can be paired with a smartphone via Bluetooth. The sound quality is nowhere near premium, but it is usable, music or navigation instructions are audible. The audio is obviously not like you are at a concert, but it is suitable for everyday use. The reactivity of the display is especially good - the touch panel works flawlessly even with thin gloves. Most displays are essentially invisible (unreadable) in sunlight, and this is unfortunately also the case with the G2 Ultra, although perhaps less so than with previous KuKirin models.

KuKirin G2 Ultra: What Does It Really Know?

At the first start, you can already feel the power that was missing from the regular G2. The start is not brutal, but it is firm. Thanks to the sinusoidal controller, it does not jerk, but we get a smooth, continuous acceleration. And it accelerates to 55 in about 11 seconds, which, in addition to the 10-inch wheels, requires some attention from us. It is faster than the average scooter, and in city traffic you will practically be ahead in traffic jams.

We tested: KuKirin G2 Ultra electric scooter - Proven design, double the power, what could be wrong? 39

The slopes are the real playground of the twin motor. A 20% slope doesn't even bother it, and it even accelerates. This is a consistent ability, you always get it, if only because, as I wrote, the twin motor mode cannot be turned off. It conquered the roughest slope in our area (where I test all scooters), but interestingly, it performed worse than I expected. I had previously done similar tricks with a motorized scooter, describing S-shapes, to get to the roof. So I went up, but less easily than I expected. I should note that this is really a pretty tough slope.

If the power of the KuKirin G2 Ultra was a little disappointing, this cannot be said about the ride comfort, which is great. The factory setting was absolutely perfect for my 90 kilo weight, but the stiffness of the shock absorber can of course be adjusted if by chance the setting is too hard or too soft for you. The wishbone suspension does its job very well. The front C chassis was already much better on the previous G2 model than on the G4, but with this wheel also being driven, the steering shake phenomenon almost completely disappeared, at least during acceleration. When driving evenly, when driving over road defects, when jumping off the sidewalk, we get about the same as in the case of the G2, and this is not bad at all, even if we take into account the technological weakness of the C chassis. I pulled the steering wheel at higher speeds, but it seemed relatively stable.

We tested: KuKirin G2 Ultra electric scooter - Proven design, double the power, what could be wrong? 40

During the first day of testing, I encountered a variety of different roads. Hard asphalt, cracked asphalt, grassy paths, dirt roads, the KuKirin G2 Ultra performed well everywhere. The 10-inch wheels and mild off-road pattern ensure adequate traction in all conditions. The combination of high load capacity and powerful motors means that the KuKirin G2 Ultra is not just one of the machines for the average commuter, but one of the best you can buy for this purpose.

The top speed for me was 57,5 km/h, which is even above the factory data. The brakes, although mechanical solutions, function properly, as I wrote above. The dosing is surprisingly good, you only need to apply the front brake with one finger to get meaningful braking force. Of course, more force is needed for full braking, but you don't need a Superman grip for this either.

We tested: KuKirin G2 Ultra electric scooter - Proven design, double the power, what could be wrong? 41

The range, as I already wrote, differs from the factory data. In dynamic sport or race mode, in mixed urban and suburban traffic, the range was 30 kilometers. In a more cautious eco mode, perhaps 35-40 kilometers could be obtained, but the truth is that the average user will most likely not operate the machine this way. However, this range is still sufficient for the average commute, especially if you also charge it at work, since then you can make the trip several times in a day.

Finally, the part I didn't like:

The dashboard is better in terms of visibility than the previous solutions, but sunlight will not be your friend this time either. The taillight and turn signal are still indicative, especially the latter. The mechanical disc brake on this scooter is really borderline, I won't say it's unusable, especially since it also has 160 discs, but it's still borderline. With 2 x 1000 watts, I definitely want hydraulic brakes, this 2 x 800 watts will still work. The front turn signals are borderline. Those two little cubes at the bottom of the handlebars are everything, but they're not visible, from almost anywhere. If I can give you a tip (and even though you didn't ask, I'll give it anyway), it's to put the turn signals on the end of the handlebars! Make them flash orange, visible from the front, from the back and from the side! Finally, I have to mention the turn signal switch, which is simply unusable. I'm telling the designer that that little joystick was a really bad idea, they should have had a more definite solution for turning on a scooter where the steering wheel is constantly dancing under your hand.

KuKirin G2 Ultra – the conclusion

If I said that the car surprised me, I would be lying. Although, I must admit that there was something that surprised me about it. Of course, I'm talking about the dashboard!

We tested: KuKirin G2 Ultra electric scooter - Proven design, double the power, what could be wrong? 42

Basically, nothing happened here other than we got the tried and tested KuKirin G2 in a slightly new guise, with minor modifications, but in a much more powerful version. The two 800 watt motors not only had a positive effect on the KuKirin G2 Ultra's climbing ability. The machine also became more dynamic, and the tendency to skid was also reduced by the front wheel now pulling the scooter behind it.

Returning to the dashboard (because it's probably not an exaggeration to call the display a dashboard here), I really like the built-in simple, but all the more practical navigation capability via the speakers. I don't know if the manufacturer thought of this when designing it or if the goal was just to transfer music, but regardless, I love this navigation option! A huge red dot for it.

We tested: KuKirin G2 Ultra electric scooter - Proven design, double the power, what could be wrong? 43

The built-in speaker is not bad, although I would emphasize the help it provides in navigation more than the sound quality. You can listen to music on it, it's much better than using a pair of headphones with a plug in your head, because it's life-threatening while riding a scooter. This one is not, it just doesn't sound as good or as loud. You can choose, you die or listen to music in a slightly worse quality.

Overall, I think the KuKirin G2 Ultra is Ultra good. Not crazy good, not unimaginably good, “just” Ultra good, and that was more than enough for me today to recommend it as a product to buy!
