Introduction – Kukirin A1: The new king of the urban jungle?

KuKirin keeps introducing new scooters. After the hit G4 and even more hit G2, they have released a new machine called the KuKirin A1. Browsing the specifications, you might feel like you've seen this information somewhere before, and you're right, the KuKirin G2 is very similar on paper. However, if you look at the A1, you'll immediately see that it's a very different kind of scooter.

We tried it: Kukirin A1 scooter test, with 800 watts of power, the city is yours! 1

Compared to the G2, the brutal, industrial-looking frame has disappeared and the forks have also become more beautiful. At first glance, the scooter looks like a typical tubular frame structure, but then it turns out that it is not even a simple tubular frame that holds the machine together. This is also shown by the weight of the scooter, which is much greater than we imagine due to its filigree exterior. This large weight is not justified by either the performance or the battery capacity, so it is obvious that we will have to look for the reasons in the frame and chassis.

What can be said about the KuKirin A1 is that it is a pleasing, very attractive, youthful piece. Of course, just like slaps, tastes are not the same, so there may be those who will find the G2 more desirable. But if that is the case, then we can say that KuKirin did a good job by launching the A1, because it found a segment of the market that would not have bought the G2. However, they will definitely buy the A1, so the new design is a hit.

In the next chapter, we'll take a closer look at the scooter's design, materials, dimensions, and what controls and connectors it has. Stay tuned!

Kukirin A1 In Detail: Design, Controls and Dimensions

One Electric Scooter in the case of performance and range is key, but everyday usability is largely determined by physical design, ergonomics, and build quality. The Kukirin A1 Its designers have clearly paid serious attention to creating a solid yet aesthetically pleasing machine. In this chapter, we will take a closer look at the scooter's exterior features, from the frame to the controls.

Design and Construction

We tried it: Kukirin A1 scooter test, with 800 watts of power, the city is yours! 4

The scooter gives a robust impression at first, which is greatly softened by the well-placed, well-shaped and brightly colored stickers. For example, the colored stripes on both sides of the tread, following the tubular frame from the front and thinning towards the back, optically slim the body of the scooter. The frame, made of high-quality aluminum alloy with a matte finish, has clean, beautifully executed welds. KuKirin has broken with the black-and-orange color scheme typical of previous models and updated the design with blue LED lights and discreet colored inserts, which gives the machine a modern, youthful, cheerful and clean look.

The deck is one of the most commendable elements of the scooter. With its 19 cm width and practically 51 cm useful length (in fact, 64 cm including the rear footrest), it is extremely spacious, providing a comfortable and stable position even with larger feet. Its surface is covered with anti-slip rubber knobs, and the blue illuminated KuKirin logo under the steering column gives it a cool style. The pattern of the deck is really good, the rubber bumps hold the sole, they don't let our feet slip, and their pattern attracts the eye. This solution is also good in terms of cleaning, there are no small gaps from which we have to scrape the mud.

At the rear end of the step, a massive, tubular kicktail helps maintain a stable body position when accelerating or climbing. It's not too big, it's not too noticeable, but it does its job well. The angle of inclination isn't one that would tempt you to ride a bike, but it holds your feet well and is comfortable, so neither your ankles nor your calves will complain even after longer rides.

The handlebar and the handlebars also suggest massiveness. The 58 cm wide (or rather narrow), slightly curved handlebars provide a comfortable grip, and their height from the step is 99 cm, which is ideal for most users. Unfortunately, the height of the handlebars is not adjustable, so the user's height limits the range of buyers. The usual 190 cm is the upper limit at which the thing is still viable.

The folding mechanism is one of the manufacturer's most secure solutions to date: it is free of rattling and creaking when closed, and is also equipped with an additional safety lock.

Dimensions and Portability

We tried it: Kukirin A1 scooter test, with 800 watts of power, the city is yours! 10

A Kukirin A1 He is not competing in the featherweight division. His 25,5 kgWith its weight of , it is clearly not the kind of scooter that you would carry up to a fourth-floor apartment several times a day, carrying it under your arm. Let's add that a G2 weighs exactly the same on the scale, although at first glance we would think it was a much heavier beast. I won't mention the G4 here, it is a heavier individual, but it is not in the same category as the A1. The total length of the KuKirin A1 is 115,4 cm, and its height is 129 cm. It can be safely said that weight and size are (maybe) a guarantee of stability and durability, but they definitely limit portability. This machine was made to roll on its own wheels, not to be carried around a lot. At least I certainly wouldn't want to carry a lot.

Controls and Display

We tried it: Kukirin A1 scooter test, with 800 watts of power, the city is yours! 12

The controls are logical, familiar and easy to use. On the left side of the handlebars are the rear brake lever, the power button, the light and the turn signal switch. On the right side are the front brake lever, the throttle and the key, and in the middle, of course, there is the central, multi-function LCD display.

The display shows all the important data: current speed, battery charge (including voltage), distance traveled, and one of the three gears (1-2-3). The biggest drawback of the display (unsurprisingly) is that its visibility is significantly reduced in bright sunlight, becoming almost unreadable.

We tried it: Kukirin A1 scooter test, with 800 watts of power, the city is yours! 13

The lighting system didn't work for me on the G2 and G4, but on the A1 it was absolutely terrible. The headlight is a small LED light under the handlebars, which is just enough in a well-lit urban environment, but in complete darkness it's not safe. urban transport It is definitely recommended to supplement it with a stronger, separate light. The only advantage of the front light over the G2-G4 pair is that at least its angle can be adjusted. On the other hand, the turn signals integrated into the end of the handlebars are extremely bright and clearly visible, which greatly increases safety (hurray, finally a turn signal that makes sense!). Their disadvantage is that their operation is not accompanied by an audible signal, so it is easy to accidentally forget to turn it on (at least I did it several times). The U-shaped rear light and brake light also have a strong light and a modern design, one of the most eye-catching elements on the scooter.

Connectors and Practical Details

A Kukirin A1 has some design features that may require compromises in everyday use. The charging port is located at the bottom, front of the frame, which is inconvenient to access, and is also the area most exposed to mud and water. Although it is protected by a rubber plug, its position is not the most fortunate.

We tried it: Kukirin A1 scooter test, with 800 watts of power, the city is yours! 15

The situation is similar with the mudguard: the rear mudguard does not completely cover the wheel, so it is guaranteed to kick up water on wet roads. The IP54 water resistance rating only means protection against splashing water anyway, so puddles and heavy rain should definitely be avoided with it. And anyway, unless there is no other solution, you should not want to ride a scooter on wet roads!

So, it can be seen that the solid construction and comfortable design are accompanied by some ill-considered details, but this is not surprising with Chinese scooters. However, overall, the picture that has formed in my mind tips the scales in the right direction. If I had to rate the appearance, I would give the KuKirin A8 at least 9 out of 1, but more likely XNUMX points!

Kukirin A1 in Numbers: Engine, Battery and all the rest

We tried it: Kukirin A1 scooter test, with 800 watts of power, the city is yours! 17

If you are attracted to the scooter at first sight (I absolutely am), that's great, it's important that you like what you use. However, you won't get to know the parts that are important for use, even though the real character of the KuKirin A1 is determined by the technology in the frame. The Kukirin A1 In this case, the numbers speak for themselves and outline a performance package that is, if not outstanding, but absolutely good in its category. Let's see what the machine can do under the hood, or rather under the step!

The heart of the machine: The 800W motor

For the dynamism of the scooter, a brushless motor integrated into the rear wheel 800W engine Thanks to this motor and its 25 Nm torque, the Kukirin A1 It launches from a standing position surprisingly nimbly, almost playfully, and according to the manufacturer's data, it can handle inclines of up to 20 degrees. In practice, this means that most city hills or overpasses will not pose a challenge to it, or to you.

We tried it: Kukirin A1 scooter test, with 800 watts of power, the city is yours! 18

KuKirin doesn't usually mess with performance data, and based on the test, it doesn't seem like that happened here either. The A1 is on par with the G2, perhaps with a slightly friendlier, less explosive start. So the engine seems to be in line with the factory data!

Power supply and real-world range

We tried it: Kukirin A1 scooter test, with 800 watts of power, the city is yours! 19

Power is provided by a 48-volt, 13-ampere-hour (Ah) lithium-ion battery. These numbers may not mean much to the layman, but the point is much more the resulting range. The manufacturer officially states 45 kilometers on a single charge. However, real tests – as is usually the case – paint a more nuanced picture. Based on the results found on the Internet, with an average user of 80-85 kg, on mixed terrain and with dynamic use, the realistic range It is more like 25-35 kilometers. During and based on the tests, with me, my 95 kilos, 30 kilometers will be more realistic. This value should still be more than enough for daily use. urban transport for the implementation, but it is important that you rely on these realistic data, not what the manufacturer claims.

We tried it: Kukirin A1 scooter test, with 800 watts of power, the city is yours! 20

Charging a completely discharged battery with the factory 2-amp charger takes about 7-8 hours, which allows for a convenient overnight charge, but if you have to charge at work, that time also fits in. That is, calculated this way, even with a larger load, a daily range of 60 kilometers is achievable, i.e. 30 to work and another 30 home. Of course, the range can be influenced by many things, terrain conditions, temperature, speed, etc. etc. etc.

Ride comfort: Class-leading dual suspension

We tried it: Kukirin A1 scooter test, with 800 watts of power, the city is yours! 21

A Kukirin A1 One of its most outstanding technical solutions is undoubtedly its chassis. Instead of the traditional, simple spring solutions, it has a front and rear wishbone suspension with a hidden “cartridge” system. double suspension This technology absorbs road imperfections much more finely and effectively than most competitors in its class. The result is an extremely smooth, quiet ride, where the suspension doesn't snap or rattle, even on poor quality roads or dirt roads. This ride comfort is what makes the Kukirin A1It really makes it stand out from the crowd and gives it a premium feel.

Steering and Safety: Brakes, Wheels and Speed

Mechanical disc brakes at the front and rear provide deceleration, which is supplemented by an electronic brake (E-Brake). I would describe the braking effect as “adequate” or “adequate”; the system reliably stops the scooter (according to the factory data within 6-8 meters), but of course it does not provide the biting, finely dosed power of more expensive hydraulic systems. This does not seem to be a major shortcoming with this scooter.

We tried it: Kukirin A1 scooter test, with 800 watts of power, the city is yours! 22

The 10-inch tubeless wheels provide good grip on dry and slightly wet roads, and their size contributes to stability and a comfortable ride. The scooter has an unlimited top speed of 45 km/h. In accordance with road regulations in most countries, the speed can be limited to 25 km/h with a simple button combination.

Load capacity and water resistance

From a practical point of view, the scooter has a maximum load capacity of 120 kg, which is perhaps a little higher than average, making it a stable and safe solution for heavier users. However, there is a compromise when it comes to water resistance, as the IP54 rating only provides protection against dust and splashing water from all directions. This means that it can withstand a light drizzle, but using it in heavy rain or driving it through deeper puddles is risky. You might want to try a more serious insulation, it can't hurt in the long run!

We tried it: Kukirin A1 scooter test, with 800 watts of power, the city is yours! 23

Overall, the Kukirin A1 specifications create an extremely strong value-for-money package. The powerful 800W engine and the double suspension trump cards that are not matched by mechanical brakes or realistic range compromises seem forgivable.

Experience “In the Saddle”: What is Real Life Like at the Kukirin A1 Government?

After the technical data and design analysis, we came to the most important question: what does it actually feel like to use the Kukirin A1 scooter? The numbers you see on paper are only worth something if they come together in practice to create an enjoyable, reliable and comfortable companion.

We tried it: Kukirin A1 scooter test, with 800 watts of power, the city is yours! 24

When the arrived Kukirin A1 box, you could tell from its size and weight that I was dealing with a lightweight toy. My first impression after unpacking it was absolutely positive: the scooter is solid, the welds are clean, the entire frame is in one piece, nothing wobbles or rattles. The folding mechanism really seemed strong, so much so that the first couple of times I had to struggle with it before I got the hang of it – that’s the price for a stable, non-rattling fit. After snapping the handlebars on and charging the battery, I set off for my first test ride.

Driving dynamics and the wonder of suspension

The first time you step on the gas, you can immediately feel the 800W engine power, it is true that there is a minimal delay in the throttle response. This is not noticeable to the average person, but maximalists will certainly complain. The scooter's acceleration is dynamic and clearly makes you feel that it has reserves, at least on flat roads. As I wrote above, the intensity of the throttle response is somewhat lower (at least, if my memory serves me correctly) than the G2, but I don't find this a problem at all, in fact, it suits the character of the scooter better.

The real surprise, however, is clearly the double suspension quality. The ride comfort was surprisingly good. Since I didn't get the usual suspension strut, I thought I would have a problem with it, but no. The thing works exceptionally well. While other scooters of similar price offer a shaky, uncomfortable experience on paving stones or cracked asphalt, the Kukirin A1 It glides over these obstacles almost imperceptibly. The swingarm system absorbs road imperfections quietly, without rattling or bumping, and during testing it remained surprisingly smooth and stable even on forest trails dotted with roots. This feature sets it apart from the competition and gives it a premium feel that is absolutely surprising in this price range.

We tried it: Kukirin A1 scooter test, with 800 watts of power, the city is yours! 26

It is important to mention that the chassis worked very well during cornering. Even at higher speeds and when leaning, I did not feel any instability, as if the scooter was on rails. It was quite enjoyable to corner with it, leaning left and right, somehow I was expecting a much quieter city scooter, but it turned out that there is much more to the chassis than that.

I tested the scooter in an urban, asphalt environment. The acceleration is surprisingly dynamic, there is a pleasant, “playful” kick to it, which makes it confident to start off in traffic. However, if I had to give an opinion, I can imagine this machine on a bike path rather than among cars. This is also supported by the fact that the top speed at full throttle will be around 38-42 km/h. This is a more than acceptable value with a body weight of 90+ kg (on a flat road, of course), but in traffic it is a bit too little. Out of curiosity, I lifted the rear wheel, and the engine revved up to 52 km/h without load.

We tried it: Kukirin A1 scooter test, with 800 watts of power, the city is yours! 27

There was no problem with stability at high speeds, but I noticed that when steering with one hand, the scooter tends to behave a little “nervous”, especially when going over a bump in the road. This is the usual tendency to slosh, which is every scooter rider’s nightmare, but the KuKirin A1 behaved surprisingly well in this respect too. I also put the brakes to the test: I stopped in about 25 meters after emergency braking from 3,5 km/h. The mechanical disc brakes do their job, but for effective braking I had to pull both brake levers, very hard, with at least two fingers.

Seeing the capabilities of the chassis, I also took a detour into the nearby forest. Although this is not an off-road scooter, it stood its ground on the packed dirt road and the paths dotted with roots. The suspension was also a five-star test here, it never snapped or hit a bump.

We tried it: Kukirin A1 scooter test, with 800 watts of power, the city is yours! 28

I do have a small complaint about the handling. Okay, this is a city scooter, but the width of the handlebars is still a bit too small for me. The AC chassis is good, but as usual it is not perfect, there is a barely noticeable tendency to slosh, which would have made a wider handlebar desirable. However, I must also note that these problems are a real problem when you push the scooter to its limits, at speeds around 30 km/h the thing was absolutely flawless!

There are strict rules in several places west of us, so from a domestic perspective, surprisingly low top speeds are allowed. This may vary from country to country, but we are talking about 20-25 km/h. At this speed, the KuKirin A1 does its job perfectly. I honestly wouldn't mind if domestic regulations also went in this direction towards stricter regulations.

We tried it: Kukirin A1 scooter test, with 800 watts of power, the city is yours! 29

Finally, there is one more thing that I am very satisfied with, and that is the turn signal. I don't know if there is a perfect place for a turn signal on a scooter, but if there is, I think it is the end of the handlebars, where the KuKirin A1's turn signal is. I had a scooter at the beginning of the season that had such a turn signal, but the manufacturer, for some idiotic reason, almost completely covered the flashing light with a rubber cap (maybe because of the design). This is not the case with the KuKirin A1. The turn signal is clearly visible and bright enough, of course, especially in the dark.

Small annoyances

However, during the test week, a few small but annoying details emerged, but I wouldn't say that any of them are dangerous at first glance. One of them is the visibility of the display. I would say that I was surprised that it is almost completely unreadable in sunlight, but I experience this on most scooters, including other KuKirin scooters. It is annoying because it makes it difficult to quickly check the speed or charge level. The other is the placement of the charging connector: it is located at the bottom of the frame, in the place most exposed to dirt, which does not seem like a good solution in the long run. If I were to buy such a scooter, I would definitely try to improve the IP54 water and dust resistance.

We tried it: Kukirin A1 scooter test, with 800 watts of power, the city is yours! 30

Finally, one more thing, the index switch. It's true, it's just a matter of getting used to it, but for some reason I tried to use it like a motor switch, and my finger just couldn't get used to it properly. On motors, you slide the index switch to the left, for example, and to turn it off, you have to slide it to the right. I did the same with the KuKirin A1. I indexed it to the right, then pressed the left button, but that didn't turn the index off, so I started indexing to the left. I should have pressed the right button again to turn it off. I'm telling you, this is a motor habit, if you don't have one, it won't bother you.

Final chord: Who is the Kukirin A1 recommended for?

After a week of testing, the Kukirin A1 clearly showed what he can do. This is the Electric Scooter a vehicle of dualities: in some areas it far exceeds the level expected from its price category, while in other areas it deliberately forces the user to make simple or even annoying compromises. The ultimate question is, which way does the balance tip, and for whom is it really worth investing in this model?

We tried it: Kukirin A1 scooter test, with 800 watts of power, the city is yours! 31

A Kukirin A1 its two biggest trump cards are undoubtedly ride comfort and design. It is almost unique in its category, with a swingarm double suspension It provides a level of comfort and roadholding that would normally require you to dig much deeper into your pockets. It glides so smoothly on poor quality city roads, cobblestones or even a packed dirt road that it is a daily driver's delight. urban transport It takes your riding experience to a whole new level. Combined with the dynamic engine, the solid frame and the spacious footrest only further enhance the quality and premium feel.

The exterior is AWESOME to me! As a man, I might like the industrial design of the G2-G4 line more, but God forbid, the A1 somehow suits me better. Even though I'm not young anymore, I like this youthful and fresh design much more. Next to the G2, it's like a spring breeze. It's light, pleasant and soft. I'll try to somehow convey the feeling that the A1 evoked in me, I hope I succeed.

We tried it: Kukirin A1 scooter test, with 800 watts of power, the city is yours! 32

This outstanding mechanical performance and eye-catching design are offset by the aforementioned compromises. There is no app, but there are also “little things” like the display being unreadable in bright sunlight or the mudguards offering almost zero protection against mud, things that the owner has to live with every day. The 25-35 kilometer realistic range range It's enough for most city commuters, but anyone expecting the manufacturer's stated 45 kilometers will be disappointed.

So then who is it for? Kukirin A1? Above all, for the user whose most important consideration is outstanding ride comfort, convenient and easy use, and robust, reliable performance. For the one who is looking for a mechanically excellently designed, strong and comfortable scooter for everyday commuting (mostly on bike paths), and is willing to forego smart features and overlook a few minor design flaws.

This scooter is a perfect choice if your goal is an enjoyable, dynamic and surprisingly pleasant and smooth ride from A to B without having to delve into technical details. However, it is not recommended for those who want to collect data, control all settings from their phone, or often use the scooter in rainy weather. The Kukirin A1 an honest machine: what you see is what you get – a brilliant chassis and a powerful engine, in a clean, no-frills package. If that's exactly what you need, you're unlikely to find a better buy in this price range.

If you liked the scooter (which I wouldn't be surprised about), you can now buy it at a very competitive price, because I also got a nice coupon with the article. Frequently Asked Questions about the Kukirin A1 scooter

1. Question: What is the real range and top speed of the Kukirin A1 scooter?

Response: A Kukirin A1 its top speed is 45 km/h without restriction, which can only be used on private land. For road traffic, the speed can be limited to 25 km/h. The 45 km range given by the manufacturer is an ideal value measured under laboratory conditions. Based on real tests, with an average weight user (75-85 kg) and mixed use, the realistic range is between 25-35 kilometers, which is more than enough for most daily commutes.

2. Question: Is the suspension of the Kukirin A1 really that comfortable on bad roads?

Response: Yes, this is the Kukirin A1 one of its most outstanding features. Instead of traditional spring solutions, the hidden suspension system with swing arms at the front and rear absorbs road imperfections extremely effectively. Thanks to this, the scooter rides surprisingly smoothly and comfortably on cobblestones, cracked asphalt or even on a packed dirt road, its ride comfort far surpasses that of its peers in its category.

3. Question: How heavy is the Kukirin A1, can it be easily transported, for example, on public transport?

Response: A Kukirin A1 It weighs 25,5 kg, which is due to its robust construction. This weight no longer allows for comfortable, regular carrying, for example, in a multi-story staircase. Although it is foldable, its size and weight make it more of a “park and go” type of vehicle than an easily portable “last mile” scooter.

4. Question: Can I use the Kukirin A1 scooter in the rain?

Response: Not recommended. Kukirin A1 It has an IP54 water resistance rating, which means it is only protected against splashing water (e.g. driving through a puddle).
