Introductory

Car journalists often mention that they got out of the thrill of driving. The clear and exclusively declared goal of today’s vehicles is to take us from A to B as safely as possible.

Well, after the first few kilometers I did with the KugooKirin S4, this analogy jumped in first. The S4 is strong in this. With that, you’re not going to race a thousand, you’re not making fun of corners, you’re getting up and going.

If you want a scooter like this, you don't even have to spend a lot for it, because from an EU warehouse, NNNHOCS4 With a coupon code, you can get it from here for HUF 151 instead of HUF 000:

Of course, in order for you to make an informed decision, I suggest you read the article below, watch the video, I hope it will help you make that decision!

Packing, assembly

I found the ornate one in the unadorned cardboard box. I’ve experienced this in several products lately, I don’t really see the point of double packaging, only the paper is consumed with it unnecessarily. Of course, the outer cardboard is presumably made from recycled materials, but even then.

Anyway, let's get over this, let's see what we find in the package!

Opening the top of the box shows that the impact protection is better than usual. I mean, it's better than the Kugoo and KugooKirin scooters I've ever had. This is good news and predicts that maybe the content will get better.

There are not many accessories. We get a manual, we get a charger with an EU plug cable, and we get a small bag with an Allen key in two sizes and six screws. So, there will be a bit of work with the machine before we can start using it!

Of course, this installation will not be a problem for anyone. Once the scooter has been lifted out of the carton, fold out the side support, open the handlebar, and replace the handlebar. You will need four screws to secure the latter. With the remaining two, we have to screw a small plastic element under the handlebars, onto the rod as well. This will get caught in the hook on the rear fender so we can carry the folded roller.

We're done, we can turn it on and get started. But, in the article, let’s get to know the capabilities first, and then the experience will partly understand why a machine is the way it is!

The KugooKirin S4 is a completely average scooter in many ways, but it has 1-2 capabilities that make it stand out from the crowd. Let's start with the average thing first!

I would note here that the manufacturer, unlike many other competitors, is trying not to outwit us in terms of range, overcoming ascent and maximum speed. It is good to know that in the case of electric vehicles, these data are in most cases out of line with the real values.

For example, the data provided, as described for the S4, is valid for a passenger with a body weight of 65 kilograms. This is true for top speed and also for consumption, the maximum angle of climb that can be climbed.

But they went even further into the details than the Kugoo, and in the distance they could do, it was described that the value assumed an outside temperature of 65 degrees, windless weather, a road free of ascents and constant, no braking, no acceleration. That is, it is suspected that the range test was performed indoors on a test bench.

Taking note of the above, let's see what the manufacturer writes about the capabilities!

The KugooKirin S4 has an electrical system of 36 volts and a battery capacity of 10 Ah. We get the data that the Akksi standard is made up of 18650 cells, which is good because we will be able to repair it at home with proper service. You will not have to replace the entire battery pack, it will be enough to deal with short-circuited cells, which means significant savings.

The engine is 350 watts, with a maximum speed of 730 rpm and a maximum torque of 16,55 Nm. The machine can be charged from zero to maximum with a charge of 6-8 hours, and a maximum of 40 kilometers can be covered with this charge (under the conditions described above).

The maximum transport weight is 100 kilograms. I also confirm this, I printed a glaze around last night (unfortunately not lying down) and took it properly as it should. You can choose from three modes, the first with a maximum speed of 15, the second with a maximum of 25 and the third with a maximum speed of 35 kilometers per hour.

The KugooKirin S4 is a relatively large scooter, but fortunately not because of its weight, so on the one hand it is comfortable to use because it fits properly on our feet, on the other hand it is easy to take with you because it weighs only 17 pounds.

It is also important to note that the S4 has been protected against water - unfortunately not at all evident with scooters - namely IP54. In practice, this means that we cannot roll with it under water, but the structure, more precisely the electronics, is protected against splashing water. More importantly, the wheels are 10 inches and ballooned, meaning we don’t get the bang-free (and suspension-free) wheels in return, though in return.

What else? There is an LED light on the front and rear, there is also a brake light, we get a disc brake, which is aided by anything called e-ABS. Of course, this is not the usual ABS, simply the engine built into the rear wheel, if it does not receive power, it will help in braking.

Finally, I would like to highlight one more thing, which is nothing more than a dashboard that is a disgrace to motorcycles. It’s a shame they skipped the ziccer and didn’t incorporate a color navigation. I would love it! At the same time, the big display makes sense, we also see data on it that other scooters don’t. For example, the motor temperature, the voltage measured on the motor and the voltage measured on the battery, and of course the charge.

Tried it out - KugooKirin S4 electric scooter, the sea of peace 10

These are interesting because the engine, while protected from overheating, can still do the most damage during daily use. And the two voltage values give a much more accurate picture of the current charge than the conventional display, because the latter drops when the motor is loaded, so it shows a much lower charge than what is actually in the battery.

Another interesting feature of the huge “dashboard” is that it also has a touch-sensitive surface on it. The lamp is switched on and off with the on / off button on the throttle, but you can also switch between the operating modes with the touch-sensitive button, which can also be used to switch between Km / hour and mile / hour.

Experiences

Well, we got to the point. I will try to describe my feelings, my remarks from the unpacking and the first start.

When I picked up the KugooKirin S4 out of the box, it first appeared that there had been some level of quality improvement. Specifically, the scooter has moved at least one class higher than the ones I’ve come across so far.

The exterior has undergone assembly and every conspicuous change. It’s not like they’ve been bad so far, but let’s face it, there’s always room for improvement with these cheap scooters. In the case of the S4, this was also the case.

Tried it out - KugooKirin S4 electric scooter, the sea of peace 11

The huge dashboard, the rear fender and the slightly retro punch of the attached lamp, the wide and well-ribbed rubber tread all really like it. In the case of the latter, I like this rubber solution better than the glued “sanding cloth”, because the latter is approx. it looks good until we start using the scooter, then it will soon be unacceptably dirty, and it can't be cleaned much. The rubber, ribbed surface, on the other hand, can be kept nicely and clean.

So at first glance, it became a very successful scooter, an absolutely pretty piece!

I found only one negative related to the exterior. The handlebar snaps into place with a small swivel safety ring designed to prevent the otherwise strong lever that holds the handlebar in place from releasing. Well, this ring moves a little easier than I think would be ideal, and the plastic doesn’t seem too resistant either.

Tried it out - KugooKirin S4 electric scooter, the sea of peace 12

Let's say it doesn't have a holding role, it doesn't have to withstand a lot of force, its role is really just not to let the metal lever go in, so that's not a serious mistake.

I’ve already written up from the dashboard, I like it, until the sun is on fire, because if it does, I have to stare hard at my eyes to see what’s on it. Let’s say this is especially true when the sun is a little behind us, in which case it is very much reflected. In other cases, the thing is acceptable, in cloudy weather, in the shade impeccable.

I wrote above that the extra data is important, I think so, so overall I still feel the benefit of a lot of information!

But, no matter how much advantage, there is some confusion in the power of the data. Because I noticed that when I turn off the scooter at 30 percent battery charge, when I turn it on, the instrument only shows 18 to 19 percent. I don’t really understand the reason, maybe you’re wrongly measuring the charge of a warmed-up battery by 10 percent more, or is it showing 10 percent less than a cool battery?

Tried it out - KugooKirin S4 electric scooter, the sea of peace 13

Of course, the charge data is just one thing, the point is how far we can travel with one charge, but I’m still talking about that!

Okay, and how's it going?

Well, the KugooKirin S4 is not a galloping nerve patient, and by that you mean the acceleration is so subtle that it might be an exaggeration to call it an acceleration. Okay, I'm 100 pounds, but at first I thought there was something wrong with the machine. But no, the top speed is okay (let’s say you couldn’t move me more than 30), it just starts and accelerates so gently that it was unusual for me.

I also aimed for this in the introduction, i.e. using the S4 there is no adrenaline rush, no stress, you stand up to it, you press the throttle, it starts gently, then almost unnoticed it reaches top speed and just goes, just goes, just goes until it drains. It's all boring, so if you want some excitement in your life, don't buy a KugooKirin S4 because you're going to fall asleep.

Tried it out - KugooKirin S4 electric scooter, the sea of peace 14

This is perhaps the only danger to this scooter that it is so stress and excitement that one tends to distract a bit, just like in a comfortable car today. The difference is that the car has a body and crease zones, and the scooter has a crease zone. So no matter how subtle it works, it should only be used with common sense.

The brake pronounced interesting. According to the factory data, the braking distance is 4-8 meters depending on our speed, and in my experience this data may be true. What is strange, however, is how it works. The manufacturer says it has e-ABS in it. It’s such a wooden iron ring thing, because of course it doesn’t have ABS in it, but in the usual way we get a “motor brake” when braking, in which case I suspect there is some power recovery as well.

When you pull in the brake lever, the mechanical disc brake will work immediately, of course, but its power is quite weak. It’s enough at lower speeds, but you’ll have a hard time stopping at higher speeds, especially if you’re fuller.

Tried it out - KugooKirin S4 electric scooter, the sea of peace 15

There, however, is e-ABS, which is activated with some delay. This is not a problem at higher speeds (the maximum is whether it activates in time and I can stop where I want to), but at lower speeds - understand 5-6 Km / hour - it brakes the scooter with enough force to hold on should be in government.

The thing is not a life threat, really, just as I’ve put it, it’s interesting or weird, but it sure has to get used to it.

What I can’t recommend for the S4 at all, however, is climbing. I’ll write again (and not boast, on the contrary), unfortunately I’m 100 pounds, and that weight for this roller is already a lot uphill. I’m not saying 65 pounds may be able to overcome the 15-degree ascent given in the factory data, but at 100 pounds, that’s a big deal. I’m not saying it didn’t take me up, but I felt such a poor roller effort that it already hurt me.

Tried it out - KugooKirin S4 electric scooter, the sea of peace 16

Of course, the range for me was not even close to 40 kilometers. With one charge, ascents, braking, acceleration, I was able to get about 16-18 kilometers out of it, while at a steady speed, without ascents, it was approx. 25 kilometers I could calculate.

This range is definitely not a craze, but to go to work, especially if we have a workplace to charge untig enough. And if your weight is closer to sixty-five as stated in the factory data than my hundred, you can gain several more miles.

One more thing we definitely need to talk about, and that is damping. Maybe I wrote a short presentation about this scooter a few weeks ago, indicating that there is no damping other than pneumatic tires, but I also described that I don’t think it’s necessary in an urban environment.

Tried it out - KugooKirin S4 electric scooter, the sea of peace 17

In a slightly scratchy comment, a reader indicated that I’ve probably never rolled before if I’m able to describe such nonsense.

Well, the thing is, I scooted quite a bit, suspiciously with a lot more scooters than the dear reader. On the other hand, I still hold on, in an urban setting, devastating active damping is not at all devilish.

Obviously, this requires good quality bike paths, but luckily there are more and more of them, and not just in the capital. If we don't have to roll over potholes, but on smooth asphalt, possibly cobblestones, pneumatic (understand balloon, inflated) tires will conduct vibration from the road perfectly. The steering wheel does not shake our arms, our palms, our soles, etc. do not numb.

Tried it out - KugooKirin S4 electric scooter, the sea of peace 18

The active suspension also has the disadvantage that the built-in swingarms at the rear wheel tend to rattle and jingle, and since it has almost no meaningful role in the right way, its absence can even be interpreted as an advantage.

So the point is, in my opinion, the installation of active damping is not mandatory for a scooter used in a normal urban environment with the capabilities described so far.

Another positive for me was the government, which became wider than average. This is good because it makes it very easy to control, definitely an advantage over most scooters available today.

Summary

I will repeat myself for the most part, but I will try to summarize the point briefly!

The KugooKirin S4 has become a very showy, well-assembled scooter with the capabilities, power and top speed we need to ride comfortably today. Not too heavy, but comfortable in length, even those with bigger feet can comfortably fit the rubber-covered, easy-to-clean trepnin.

Tried it out - KugooKirin S4 electric scooter, the sea of peace 19

I really like the large dashboard, it gives a lot of data that we can see at once. This is good because alternating the data on the screen on the fly is almost the same as falling on the jaw. Because of the small wheels, it is a good idea to hold the handlebars of the scooter with both hands, if you even press buttons on the go to change the information on the display, it will not lead to anything good!

In addition to the many good features, however, I still consider the “quiet” operation mentioned in the introduction to be the most important feature of the scooter. In the case of vehicles equipped with an electric motor, the torque can be surprisingly high even at the start, so we have to be careful not to roll under, say, a car or hit someone.

Tried it out - KugooKirin S4 electric scooter, the sea of peace 20

In the case of the S4, this torque builds up in pretty quiet. There’s no big acceleration, we don’t have to cling to the steering wheel frantically so we don’t fall off, we don’t even notice it, and we “race” around the top speed.

Who will have the right choice for the KugooKirin S4?

Tried it out - KugooKirin S4 electric scooter, the sea of peace 21

For those who either don’t want to climb a mountain with it, or for those who are around the 65-pound weight given in the factory data because they will still be able to overcome the smaller ascents.

I also recommend it to those who are hands-on and know about themselves that they want nothing more than a scooter to get them to where they want to go in silence, without the thrills of adrenaline. The S4 is the best in this!

Tried it out - KugooKirin S4 electric scooter, the sea of peace 22

I already shot the price at the beginning of the article. Anyone who has started looking at scooters recently will probably find the S4 cheap, but those who have been looking for the right vehicle for a long time may be surprised at the price.

Half a year or so ago, these scooters could be taken in about 120, but the effects of the last year, the lack of chips, the epidemic in China, the extremely sharp rise in transport costs, container prices, and the poor performance of the forint against the euro and the dollar Compared to this, so overall, hard inflation did not escape domestic prices measured in HUF either. The consequence of this is what we can see on the price tag today.

Tried it out - KugooKirin S4 electric scooter, the sea of peace 23

So, all in all, I dare say that the KugooKirin S4 is a machine with a particularly good price / value ratio, for which we can only regret that one year ago, because we could have bought it cheaper then.

If you liked the article, check out the video I made of it, you can see it on the go. If you want to buy it, you can order it from an EU warehouse without customs clearance and extra customs costs, the delivery time is just a few days. Shipping is free!
