iScooter F3: Rethinking urban mobility

I can honestly say that as a Budapest native, one of the main reasons I moved to the countryside was the transportation. Not public transportation, because I stand by my opinion, public transportation in Budapest is outstandingly good in Hungary. I say this because I know the transportation in several Hungarian cities, and of course now I also know what it's like in the Hungarian countryside outside the cities.

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 1

I think there is no doubt that urban transportation is becoming an increasingly challenging experience for all of us. Or at least for those who live in big cities. Traffic jams, desperate searches for parking spaces and extremely crowded public transport during rush hour are often frustrating experiences. In this situation, electric scooters, especially practical models like the iScooter F3, offer a real alternative for everyday transportation. But not for everyone, but I will write about that later!

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 2

For urban mobility, the iScooter F3 is more than just a means of transportation – it is a practical solution to everyday challenges. With a 1000W motor and a top speed of up to 45 km/h, the scooter is ideal for covering short and long distances, while the 10-inch pneumatic tires ensure a comfortable ride even on poor road surfaces. The combination of range and comfort makes the F3 a particularly attractive choice for urban commuters.

Urban mobility is rapidly changing, and vehicles like the iScooter F3 are at the forefront of this transformation. The growing demand for environmentally friendly modes of transport, combined with parking problems and traffic jams, provide an ideal environment for electric scooters to gain popularity. The F3 has the special advantage of not only being suitable for everyday commuting, but also making shopping easier with its practical design, as it can accommodate smaller packages in the rear basket.

iScooter F3: A combination of a scooter and a scooter in a compact design

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 5

The iScooter F3 reveals the role its manufacturer intended it for at first glance. This machine combines the advantages of a traditional scooter and a scooter. The characteristic hybrid design is immediately noticeable, which is not only practical, but also gives the vehicle some special appeal. With dimensions of 103 x 55,5 x 95 cm, the device is incredibly compact, so it can be easily maneuvered in urban environments, but at the same time it has some robustness.

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 6

This robustness is perhaps most evident in the frame, as the frame structure and fork, welded from thick tubes, look as if someone wanted to build a serious off-road machine for children, only to change their mind halfway through. As a result, for example, the finished machine did not include shock absorbers, and the wheels were also smaller than what we would expect from an off-road machine.

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 7

By the way, in terms of the construction materials, the frame is made of aluminum alloy, which is lightweight, resulting in a total weight of only about 20 kg. This relatively low weight makes it much easier to carry and handle the scooter or put it in the trunk of a car. This trunk-hauling is also facilitated by the foldable design.

I'll add a small caveat here, as the handlebar folding mechanism is at least 2 generations old, and there are much better solutions today. Of course, knowing the price of the scooter, you'll understand why it's the way it is.

One of the most striking features of the exterior is the comfortable, thick seat, which sets the F3 apart from most conventional electric scooters. The seat height is adjustable, ensuring a comfortable ride for users of different heights. The practical design is enhanced by the dual clamp system for securing the seat, which prevents the problem experienced with previous models, the seat from slipping while riding.

Sorry, but I have to continue with another highlight here, because this double clamp, as opposed to the handlebar folding mechanism, is a solution that I would like to see on ALL scooters with a seat.

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 8

These seats almost always tend to slide down from jolts and our weight, meaning they have to be adjusted constantly. But not so with the iScooter F3, where the double clamp does not allow the seat to move in height. A simple and GENIUS solution!

Another interesting and unique feature of the iScooter F3 is the shopping basket located above the rear, which is a serious advantage in everyday use. The mesh basket is not very large - it is suitable for transporting about 2 kg of bread or 2-3 cans of beer. For example, this morning (as I write this article) I ran to the store for a kilo of pork loin and a bag of tarragon, threw them in the basket and didn't have to use a bag. Frank!

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 9

By the way, the brake/position light can also be mounted on the rear of the basket, I'll tell you more about that in the experiences section!

In terms of controls, the iScooter F3 takes a minimalist approach. All functions are controlled using a single button on the handlebars, or “dashboard,” and a clean, easy-to-read display. The display is simple but informative – it shows the current speed, the selected gear (ECO, TOUR, SPORT), the battery level and the distance traveled. Although the single-button control may seem unusual at first – double-press to switch speed modes, triple-press to navigate through ride information – it is easy to master with some practice.

The 10-inch pneumatic tires not only provide a comfortable ride, but also contribute to the vehicle's distinctive appearance. They are not large, but the machine is not very large either, so they seem like a good size, at least when you look at the aesthetic side of things. In terms of lighting, the iScooter F3 has a projector headlight at the front and a red position light and brake light at the rear, which are not very bright, but provide adequate visibility during evening traffic.

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 11

The overall look of the iScooter F3 clearly shows a practical urban mobility device that, despite its compact size and light weight, strives to provide maximum comfort and functionality. The scooter-scooter hybrid shape, the adjustable seat and handlebars, and the useful rear basket all suggest that this vehicle was specifically designed for the challenges of urban mobility, keeping in mind the everyday needs of the user.

iScooter F3: Impressive performance for everyday use

The iScooter F3's technical specifications are centered around its impressive 1000W motor, which is unusually powerful in this category. On paper, this power (unlocked) allows the vehicle to reach speeds of up to 45 km/h, although during testing this figure peaked at around 35 km/h. It is important to note that the scooter is limited to 25 km/h in its default settings and can only be After the restriction is released, the higher speed can be achieved by pulling the right brake lever and pressing the M button on the display five times quickly..

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 13

A key element of mobility is the battery, which in the case of the iScooter F3 is a 48-volt, 13 Ah unit. The manufacturer promises an impressive range of 55-60 kilometers with this battery, but real-world usage experiences suggest that this value is more around 30 kilometers. This difference is mainly due to terrain conditions, user weight and weather conditions, all of which can significantly affect the performance of electric vehicles.

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 14

In terms of road safety, the iScooter F3 is interestingly equipped with drum brakes on both the front and rear wheels, complemented by an electronic braking system. This triple braking system provides reliable stopping, although it is not nearly as powerful as hydraulic disc brakes, which is of course not surprising. However, drum brakes have the advantage of being less vulnerable and more reliable than mechanical disc brake systems, which can mean lower maintenance requirements in the long run.

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 15

The vehicle's stability and comfort are ensured by 10-inch pneumatic tires, which provide better vibration damping and traction than smaller, solid wheels. These are especially beneficial when driving on uneven road surfaces common in urban environments. In addition to the tires, it is worth mentioning that the manufacturer also includes a spare inner tube in the package, which can be useful in case of a puncture.

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 16

The dimensions and weight of the iScooter F3 are also noteworthy: the dimensions of 103 x 55,5 x 95 cm and the weight of about 20 kg create an ideal balance between stability and portability. On paper, the vehicle has a load capacity of 120 kg, although based on practical experience, this value is exaggerated, and the scooter's performance decreases significantly under higher loads. The realistic maximum load capacity is more around 70-80 kg.

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 17

The user experience is enhanced by three different speed settings: ECO is the most economical mode, ideal for beginners or for leisurely city sightseeing; TOUR allows for more dynamic driving; while SPORT mode allows the scooter to reach its maximum speed. The F3 is also equipped with a front headlight and a rear red position light, which, although not exceptionally bright, ensure visibility even in the evening.

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 18

The package includes the scooter itself, a 54,6V 2A charger, a tool kit and a user manual. The charging time from full discharge takes about 6-7 hours, which is an average value on the electric scooter market considering the battery capacity. The weight of the entire iScooter F3 package is 22,65 kg, and the box dimensions are 102 x 24 x 54 cm, which can be important information during transportation.

iScooter F3: First-hand experiences

The scooter (because I don't think it's a scooter anymore) comes in a surprisingly small box. I've mentioned its weight several times above, this weight of around 20 kilos was surprisingly little. When the courier put it on the ground I had to pick it up, and I was expecting something completely different, so I almost fell backwards into the ditch.

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 19

Assembly is a breeze, to use my first-year son's terminology. Actually, the most time-consuming part is not putting the scooter together, but installing the basket and the light. The light was a real joke. I saw in the description that the light should be mounted on the back of the basket, yes, but there was no light in the scooter box. I rummaged through everything, I had already figured it was missing from the package, when I realized that no, it wasn't missing, it was mounted on the scooter.

In English, the manufacturer screwed it onto a bracket, in case we didn't want to put the basket on. But of course we want to put it on, it's there so we can put it on and use it, so we have to first remove the lamp, and then install it on the back of the basket.

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 20

When I first walked around the iScooter F3 after assembly, it was obvious that no one would call it a scooter. It was also obvious that I would look like a monkey on a grindstone, so I'm going to look funny in the pictures and videos.

Here's my first piece of advice: If you're over 180 cm tall, think carefully about buying one for yourself. It's not impossible to ride, but you'll just look pretty comical on it. I definitely don't recommend it for anyone over 190 cm tall, as it can be dangerous because your knees will get caught in the steering wheel!

After assembly – which, as I wrote, was not particularly challenging, since the only task was to attach the handlebars and seat, as well as install the basket and brake light – I immediately tried the scooter. My first surprise came with the speed limit: in the default setting, the F3's maximum speed was 25 km/h, which seemed extremely restrained, especially compared to the promised 1000 watts of power. And this was in sport, i.e. the most powerful gear.

But not only that, but also the fact that it barely wanted to start in the lowest gear and the top speed was only 6 km per hour, which is a comfortable walking pace. I felt that the machine could not really cope with my body weight of over 90 kilos in this gear.

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 21

However, there is a solution, you have to remove the restriction, and the iScooter F3 really goes wild. Even in the lowest gear, it accelerated to 16-17 km/h, while in sport mode I reached 35 km/h. I know there will be many of you who will complain that this is not speed, but damn, this is a small, sedentary scooter with 10-inch wheels, I wouldn't want to go faster than that, where the hell would I be speeding, to death? No, I don't want to speed there, because I was just going to the store!

Releasing the restriction is not complicated, as I wrote above, I had to pull the right brake lever while quickly pressing the single button on the display five times in a row.

I should note that the manufacturer says that with the limiter released, it will end up at 45 km/h, and they are right in that it can spin that much with the wheel off the ground, but if I sit on it, I won't even get close to that speed. As I wrote, I don't want to get close to that speed, I still have to try a few scooters this year and it will be difficult to do while lying in a coffin.

I have mixed feelings about the motor's power. Although the F3 has a 1000 watt output on paper, in practice I don't think that's true in this form. I would say that it's a powerful 500 watt machine with a peak power of 1000 watts. I think that's a realistic approach, or rather a realistic estimate.

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 22

If you don't unlock the speed lock, then the iScooter F3 is a machine that I would dare to put my mother on, who unfortunately is no longer the youngest age group, since I am also 56. But like this, without unlocking, the iScooter F3 is such a friendly, neutral-behaving machine that even people who have never ridden a similar device in their life, or maybe even a bicycle, will be able to run to the store (or to church in our case) with it.

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 23

It doesn't want to accelerate, so it just does it very leisurely. You can't brake it so hard (due to the drum brakes) that you fall over the handlebars, but at the same time its braking system is extremely effective. The vibration damping of the tubular tires is completely adequate, on a normal surface, but even on a slightly bumpier road I didn't feel the lack of shock absorption.

Overall, the simple structure, the simple handling, the moderate performance, and the good brakes make this scooter, in this form, that is, without the speed release, a real, thoroughbred, extremely safe vehicle made for retirees!

However, if you release the speed lock, you get a completely different machine! The power comes, and you realize that you can really go with this. Okay, I'm a special breed, I love all two-wheelers, especially if they can go. So the end of the test was that I was speeding up and down our neighborhood with a grinning head, tilting big, putting my feet down (sliding), taking the turns like a motocross rider. All this while I could barely fit on the scooter. There was a regular audience, mostly I saw amazed faces on the street.

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 24

After the joy comes the usual and justified criticism regarding the range. Instead of the 55-60 kilometers promised by the manufacturer, in reality you will get about 25-30 kilometers, this also depends on your weight and the terrain conditions. In other words, it won't be that much only uphill. I don't think this is bad either, it's still acceptable for city use, but as usual it falls far short of the value in the specification. The charging time was about 6-7 hours, which means that with an overnight charge the scooter is ready for use again in the morning.

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 25

As for comfort, the F3's seat is really outstanding. As I wrote above, I especially appreciated the extra clamp that prevents the seat from sliding down. I also wrote that the lack of shock absorption is basically not a problem, but this is only true as long as the road is not as bad as it is in many places around here. Well, there the shock absorption was missing.

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 26

I was basically satisfied with the performance of the braking system, to be honest, I was a little afraid of the double drum brakes, but I found that even with my not small weight, I got an adequate, but not harsh, unmanageable braking effect. In other words, both the front and rear drum brakes provided adequate stopping power, and are perhaps more reliable than mechanical disc brakes.

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 27

They are certainly not as powerful as hydraulic systems, but they are more than adequate for the speed and weight of the F3. I was less satisfied with the lighting – the front and rear lights perform the basic functions, but are not very bright, so they only provide visibility rather than adequate lighting in the dark.

Overall, my experience with the iScooter F3 was rather positive. You have to handle this machine properly! As I wrote, without the speed lock it is a very boring machine and therefore very safe to use, but if you release the speed lock it can even do a little crazy things.

iScooter F3: Middle-of-the-road choice

After testing the iScooter F3 electric scooter, it became clear that it would not be suitable for everyone. Due to the size, I would give my own maximum height as 184-185 cm. I think it will be practically unusable above this, but definitely above 190. The ideal maximum height would be 175-180 cm.

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 28

The range of about 30 kilometers can also be a limiting factor. Take this into account if you buy it. I know that many city dwellers are buzzing now, but people don't just live in cities, that is, people don't just live in big cities, here in Zalaegeszeg I go from one end of the city to the other and back, and I still haven't gone 30 kilometers. Let's leave it in the countryside, where the ideal use means that I go max. 2 kilometers to the store or church and then back.

Comparing the technical specifications and real-world performance, it is clear that it is worth setting realistic expectations for the F3.

The iScooter F3 is a mixed bag in terms of quality, although I tend to lean more towards the positive side here. The comfort of the seat and the dual clamp system are great positives, while the weakness of the handlebar stem folding mechanism clearly detracts from the overall experience. I think the reliability and efficiency of the drum brake system are a big advantage in long-term use.

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 29

For me, the simplicity of the frame and, seriously, even the lack of shock absorption seem like advantages, because with or without these, the iScooter F3 seems to be an extremely durable construction!

Finally, the price. The iScooter F3 is shipped to us from a Czech warehouse if the BG597b37 using the coupon code we pay the purchase price of 121 thousand forints for it. Shipping is of course free! Perhaps I don't need to say that for this price this scooter seems like a very worthwhile purchase, especially for those who want to use it instead of a car, but for some reason a bicycle is no longer an alternative for them. They may be older people or have slightly limited mobility.

We tested it: Could the iScooter F3 be the new king of urban transportation? 30

I say this with trepidation and caution (I don't usually say this), but this machine could be suitable for teenagers, for example, to go to school. It's not cool, but at least it's not too dangerous.
