Introductory

I don’t want to drag it long, but I have to describe it! Months ago, I was talking (chatting) with a Chinese acquaintance about the Dreame robotic vacuum cleaner. We agreed that this is perhaps the most intelligent machine at the moment. Jokingly, I mentioned that only one thing is missing, the refill water supply. To this he said: there is Yeedi!

Well, I was amazed at this, I never heard that name, I looked after it, and it turned out that really, there is already a robot vacuum cleaner that can refill the water (or do something like that).

This story is over, I forgot we talked about it when one day a courier came and brought a bazi big and heavy box. I filmed, watched, and I couldn’t imagine what might be in it. The manufacturer's name wasn't familiar either, and what was most embarrassing was, I didn't know who sent it.

Enough gas to send someone stuff for testing, I don’t know which company should write the test.

I started investigating. I checked my correspondence, started spinning back my chat conversations, and yes, I guess you guessed it, in the box was the Yeedi mop robotic vacuum cleaner. As it turned out, my dear acquaintance ordered me a machine to test, if it was already mentioned. I kiss him from here, too, because I used to have such a surprise!

The problem of mopping

Robotic vacuum cleaners have been around for years. At least that's what MOP machines are called, no matter how much I say they don't wash up, they wipe up at most. Ordinary mopping is hampered by two minor problems. One is the amount of water used for mopping, the other is the force exerted on the floor.

I may not need to explain the lack of water. In today’s robotic vacuum cleaners, even if they have a large tank, it’s good to have semi-precious water. If you’ve tried to wash 80 square feet with half a deck of water, you might understand what I’m talking about. If you haven’t tried, you probably will.

Let’s face it, the task is impossible, even for Tom Cruise, even though he’s already past many impossible missions.

The other problem stems from the physics of mopping. If we take a traditional mop in our hands, what do we do? We press on the floor and pull, push, rotate on it, rub the floor.

A robotic vacuum cleaner cannot do this. Let’s start there with a small weight to it, as you can only press the MOP to the floor with the force your weight allows. As logically expected, a one-and-a-half-pound robot cannot exert a pressure of 3 pounds.

We tried Yeedi: This is now the roughest mop robotic vacuum cleaner 3

And the force is just one thing, the other is that in most cases the robot travels through the apartment in one direction, touching a point at most once. It doesn’t rub, it doesn’t scrub the floor, it just pulls a mop soaked in it with very little water. Well, it's all not a mop.

So, are MOP robots worth nothing?

Well, that's such a wrong approach. The MOP is worth a lot, but we can’t expect him to wash the apartment. What we can expect is to completely remove the thin layer of dust left on the floor after sweeping, vacuuming, and it does. The MOP is good for this!

What does it take for a robot to wash up?

The answer to this question is simple, and this answer is known to anyone who has washed up! Think about what you do when you wash up! You take the mop, dip it in the water. You unscrew, then wipe a part on the floor. You then put it back in the water, unscrew it again, and wipe another area.

If you use a cheaper mop bucket, the dirty water from the mop will get into the clean in the bucket and wash up with more and more dirty water. If you have a more expensive bucket, the clean water will not mix with the dirt, the latter will collect in a separate section on one side of the bucket. Isn't it complicated?

Well, if we look at it from here, Yeedi’s engineers didn’t have to invent Spanish wax. But the realization is already another dough. Cramming everything you need for proper mopping into a robotic vacuum cleaner is not an easy task.

Think about it! Plenty of water, preferably so that the dirty does not mix with the clean. Enough force to scrub and clean properly, and still do it in a one and a half pound robot!

We tried Yeedi: This is now the roughest mop robotic vacuum cleaner 5

Well, this article will be about whether this mission is impossible or possible, that is, impossible or feasible. To establish this, we don’t have to be either Tom Cruise or Ethan Hunt, so let’s cut into it!

Paper form

As usual, we start with what the manufacturer says about your product, and then in the next chapter we can discuss what we managed to deliver on our promises!

The Yeedi MOP Station not only mops but also vacuums, so it’s a robotic vacuum cleaner with special mopping capabilities. The suction power of the vacuum cleaner is 2500 Pa, which corresponds to a strong middle class today. The capacity of the dust container has not been specified, let us keep it smaller than usual.

Orientation in this case was not solved with a laser, but like many other machines with an optical sensor. It’s actually born of the marriage of a camera and an ultra-wide-angle lens, placed on the cover. The advantage is that the height of the machine does not increase due to the laser (it fits in more places), the disadvantage is that it is a camera that does not pinch so much.

The machine has a relatively large battery with a capacity of 5200 mAh. According to the factory data, the vacuum cleaner can run for 180 minutes, ie 3 hours, on a single charge, which I think is a bit of an exaggeration, in the case of mopping, it's more like two, but it's not small either. The manufacturer says the structure can clean an apartment between roughly 90 and 120 square feet with a single charge.

We get two water tanks for washing. It is 200 milliliters in the vacuum cleaner and 3,5 liters in the dock. Yes, you see, I didn't prescribe, 3500 milliliters, or 3 and a half liters! It is very important that the machine can apply 10 Newtons pressure (1 kilogram) to the floor with the MOP.

We tried Yeedi: This is now the roughest mop robotic vacuum cleaner 8

The rest is normal. There is Wifi, there is an app for our phone that we can control. The strength of the vacuum cleaner can be adjusted in 4 steps and that of the mop in 3 steps. There is fall protection (stairs), there is the ability to climb a threshold, there is carpet detection, there is a virtual wall and a forbidden area, so we find the usual smart vacuuming skills that are expected today.

It is also important that the machine can be integrated into Amazon Alexa / Google Home Assistant / Yandex Alice smart home systems.

So far the paper form, now let's get acquainted with the machine!

Accessories, exterior, first impressions

As I wrote above the box bazi is big and quite heavy too. The dry weight of the device, including the dock, is nearly 16 kilograms, and if we fill the tank with water, it is nearly 20 kilograms. So I wouldn't say down.

In the box we find a dock outside my vacuum cleaner, in the dock there are two huge water tanks. There is a roller brush, which in this case is not the usual hairy something, these silicone sheets are. It also shows that the machine was sharpened for mopping.

We tried Yeedi: This is now the roughest mop robotic vacuum cleaner 9

There is also a side brush, a water tank in the vacuum cleaner, a dust tank also in the vacuum cleaner, two MOP heads, four MOPs, cleaning brushes, a self-adhesive magnetic strip on the floor (virtual wall) and a power cord.

The vacuum cleaner and docking seem like a really quality piece at first, there is nothing left behind in terms of assembly or plastic quality compared to the Xiaomi robots I deserve. The design is similar.

As I wrote, there is no laser on the cover, but there is a camera. There is an infrared sensor at the front of the machine, but there is also a collision sensor as it should be. Below the usual places is the fall arrester, which essentially means newer infrared sensors.

We tried Yeedi: This is now the roughest mop robotic vacuum cleaner 11

In front of the small castor wheel, the placement of the large sill climbing wheels, the main brush and the side brush are also completely standard. But what really isn't is the MOP. Here, too, we find it at the bottom of the water tank, but with this vacuum cleaner we do not find something passive, sliding on the floor, but two rotating brushes “inserted” into the bottom of the water tank.

Overall, the first impressions are very, very good, so far we have no reason to worry about us throwing a pile of money out the window unnecessarily!

Operation

I’ll keep the experience for the last chapter because there’s going to be something to write about, so now let’s look more at how the machine works!

The telephone application can be found by reading the QR code affixed to the top of the vacuum cleaner. Installation is easy, setup is also. As with many smart cameras, the app needs to be paired with a vacuum cleaner. Specifically, the QR code that appears on the phone display needs to be held in front of the vacuum cleaner’s camera and we’re done.

We tried Yeedi: This is now the roughest mop robotic vacuum cleaner 13

When we are done with the application, we can put our vacuum cleaner into operation. Put the two mops and the round brush on your belly, put it in the dock. Remove the fresh water tank (blue) from the dock, fill it with water, put it back. If you want, you can also fill the water tank on the vacuum cleaner with water. We can go!

The opening part of the application has a mapping and a mopping option, the former for mapping and the latter for mopping. By the way, we have to start with the mapping for the first time, although the machine will do the mapping during the first mopping, so we won't shoot a buck even if we send it for cleaning right away.

We tried Yeedi: This is now the roughest mop robotic vacuum cleaner 14

The cleaning starts, the MOPs rub the floor, all right. At approximately 5-6-7 square feet, the machine goes back to the dock, automatically washing out the two MOPs. To do this, it releases water from the fresh water tank into the tray under the MOP, rotates the mops in it (while turning it through a plastic comb, which ruffles the fibers), and the dirty water is pumped into the dirty water tank.

It all starts all over again! Practical experience can come!

Yeedi MOP Station in practice

Where do I start? Maybe with the software, because it's a pretty neuralgic point.

As I wrote, the installation and setup is simple, but after that I managed to run into a problem or two. Luckily for the unfortunate, an update was received during the test that fixed most of the bugs, so I destroyed the part about them with a loose delete keystroke.

However, it is not a matter of sour milk.

We tried Yeedi: This is now the roughest mop robotic vacuum cleaner 15

Anyone accustomed to a laser-drawn map by Xiaomi will be very surprised because the Yeedi moves on something completely different. This is because there is no laser, and as it turns out, the angle of view of the camera on the roof is only 90 degrees, meaning it can’t see a hemisphere close. As a result, we cannot expect a map that is too detailed.

This is compounded by the fact that after the first cleaning, I did not know about the apartment based on the map. Fortunately, I soon realized the reason, so also that this is not a fault, simply stems from the operation. The situation is that the floor plan of the apartment will consist of the areas where the vacuum cleaner will go.

That is, if you can’t get in between the chair legs, there on the map it will be like something like a wall. Plus it’s interesting that he didn’t go up on our carpet either. One thing I can guess in this case is that carpet detection among the capabilities works well and you don’t want to wash it, so you don’t even go up to it.

So mapping works, nowhere near the same level as a laser machine, so then map editing also offers far fewer options.

We tried Yeedi: This is now the roughest mop robotic vacuum cleaner 19We tried Yeedi: This is now the roughest mop robotic vacuum cleaner 20We tried Yeedi: This is now the roughest mop robotic vacuum cleaner 21

A good tip about mapping is to put your machine in order before you start. It's not good to avoid shoes left in the middle of the room, but it's even worse to get stuck in something, because you can put it back on the dock and start the mapping again.

Once we get through this part, we are past almost all problems.

Fortunately, the software will no longer suck in, features such as drying MOPs will no longer take the program into an endless cycle as it did before the upgrade.

We tried Yeedi: This is now the roughest mop robotic vacuum cleaner 22

What can be more problematic is the threshold climbing ability. I have found that due to large MOPs, the usual 2 cent threshold is sometimes an obstacle. We managed to get through it, but I almost gave up. I tried, 1 and a half centimeters still goes through, the suffering starts above it.

Whether this is now due to the two MOPs hanging down a lot or to the fact that the water tank is quite heavy due to the motors in it I don’t know.

I have some good news, the problems have persisted so far!

We tried Yeedi: This is now the roughest mop robotic vacuum cleaner 23

Now good things can come. Most importantly, the mop function is damn good. Okay, it’s still not like we’re scrubbing the floor, but on a robotic vacuum cleaner, the quality of mopping is absolutely outstanding.

The two rotating brushes (MOP) and the right amount of water work wonders. Even from our otherwise clean living room, so much dirt got into the dirty water tank of the dock that I just blinked like a fish in a bag.

We tried Yeedi: This is now the roughest mop robotic vacuum cleaner 24

Cleaning the MOPs in the dock is also effective, as I really like the fact that it doesn't strip the apartment with the increasingly dirty MOP, but automatically cleans the heads from time to time. To be sure, this rotating MOP and the relatively high pressure of 10 Newtons will raise the machine to almost the level of a traditional mop.

I tried it on the floor with lubricated ketchup, it removed it completely, the floor became stain free. However, even this does not pick up the dried stains without a fault, at least we have to re-command the stain once more to keep the floor clean.

We tried Yeedi: This is now the roughest mop robotic vacuum cleaner 25

And what surprised me was that after cleaning, the machine not only washes the MOP, but also dries it. The dock is able to blow air under the MOPs, so the “brush” will not stay wet, it will not smell or mold. Top of this machine!

It was interesting, or at first more surprising, the peacock dance that the vacuum cleaner slopes in front of the dock before it took its place. I thought something was wrong, but no, if the machine is close to the dock after the cleaning is done, it will “look around” twice in a semicircle and then park.

The reason for this is that due to the rather large MOPs, it doesn’t push back from the front, but turns nicely onto the ramp, which leads you into place.

Finally, vacuuming, but there are really only two sentences about it. The suction power is fine and there is no problem with a non-conventional brush under the machine. The only problem may be that the dust container is smaller than average, so larger and / or dirty flats may need to be emptied during cleaning.

Summary

The thing is, the Yeedi MOP Station is a great structure, but it has some limitations that need to be talked about. The weaknesses of mapping and threshold climbing are such. I will not list the minor bugs in the software here, as a fresh software can fix a lot, as it has already fixed.

The vacuuming ability is average, the suction power is also average, it does its job flawlessly, but nothing extra. Interestingly, the sensors work confusingly when they need to “see” dark and light objects. The machine goes to him several times for dark things, but luckily the collision sensor is sensitive enough so it won’t bump the legs of the furniture or cover the vases either.

We tried Yeedi: This is now the roughest mop robotic vacuum cleaner 26

What is sensational, on the other hand, and not very comparable to other machines, is the ability to wash. Of course, this machine has been sharpened for this, so we can safely say that we are probably facing a moping robot designed for the best home use, which of course is also a robotic vacuum cleaner.

It is effective, it washes up with a lot of water than usual, but only enough to allow the floor to dry in a matter of seconds, but at the same time, mopping can really be called mopping.

Who do I dare recommend? Of course, for those who want more than the wiping ability of robotic vacuum cleaners. For those who can afford to buy such a robot, because the Yeedi MOP Station is certainly not a cheap pastime.

We tried Yeedi: This is now the roughest mop robotic vacuum cleaner 27

The price is not surprising, as it took a lot of development, a lot of “iron” into the structure. Plus motors for rotating MOPs, Tanks, pumps for washing MOPs, adding clean water and removing dirt. Separate fan for drying the MOP. Sensors for water supply.

It’s a good long list, and these are just the extra things you need in addition to the millions of gadgets you might find in a robotic vacuum cleaner anyway, so you can understand and appreciate the premium you’re asked for. It’s a question of whether that great mopping ability is worth that much. It will surely be for those who do not, but also for those who do. This is for you, the users, to decide.
