We tried Xiaomi Mijia’s new shoe, the Fishbone

I was afraid to order it, but it became the most comfortable shoe of my life!

We tried Xiaomi Mijia’s new shoe, the Fishbone

Introductory

In the last year and a half, it has become commonplace, if something went wrong, I was always the first to see if I could make up for it. You could say that it is an unnecessary rag shake, although not the point, it is the point that I get quality stuff much cheaper than the domestic prices, be it a clever shoe or even a shoe in this article.

Unfortunately, I’m pretty finnish, so I often wait, for example, to buy a shoe until the previous one breaks off my feet. I postpone the day-to-day, week-by-week purchase, saying there’s no need to spend more money, it will be good for a while longer, and then when his foot falls off, the top breaks off, I’ll be amazed at how quickly he broke down.

Xiaomi Mijia Fishbone 2

It was like that now, almost. It’s only almost because I figured out well in advance that instead of my trainers falling on its atoms, the new Xiaomi Mijia 2 Fishbone will be what I want to buy. Yes, but the shoes are in China, I set in Europe, and knowing my luck is guaranteed not to get here in two weeks. So I ordered on time, the delivery was delayed, so when the sole was half detached from my previous shoe, I was already starting to worry, but unnecessarily, because the postman ran into the shoe box-sized package the next day.

I was lucky, the box was really the second generation Xiaomi trainers without a smart tile lurking!

Wrapping

If you think that all Xiaomi products come in uniformly super-design packaging, I have to disappoint you, it happens that we don’t get either a glossy white cardboard or an extremely optimized foam bed. So it is with Xiaomi’s shoes, which came in a completely average shoe box. Just like any shoe box, with a height of about 12 inches, with an openable lid. And in the box, the shoes are wrapped in the usual “silk” paper, with paper liners stuffed into it to keep the shoe in shape.

In addition to the shoes, of course, we can't find any extras, no size instructions, no drives, or anything, but we are not surprised by this, as it is "just" a shoe, it is true, as it turned out later from the better kind.

Technológia

We can't find too detailed a description of the shoe, but we do know the materials used, so we can get some idea of what we are buying.

Sole

The sole is made up of five different layers.

  • At least it is opened with a non-slip layer made of relatively hard rubber with a grid pattern. This part meets the ground, so it is important for both abrasion resistance and slip resistance.
  • The second layer is the largest piece of sole it is made of EVA. This is the foam most commonly used in the soles of sports shoes. The pressed ethyl vinyl acetate is heated and pressed into the sole shape. It is lightly elastic and has good damping properties, meaning this layer already counts in terms of shock absorption.

  • The third is a TPU layer. TPU, or thermoplastic polyurethane (thermoplastic polyurethane). The purpose of this layer is to provide adequate rigidity to the sole and, in addition, to further improve the shock-absorbing ability. The great advantage of the material is that it is insensitive to temperature changes, ie it has constant, unchanging capabilities even in high heat or frost.
  • The fourth layer is again an EVA layer that is completely surrounded by the previous TPU layer. It provides additional stability while running, and further improves shock absorption from the heel to the center of the sole.
  • At the top, we find a layer of polyurethane, or PU, that would come in contact with our soles if a thin layer of fabric wasn’t glued on, or an extra insole was found in the shoe.
  • The sixth layer is a soft insole, which is not even mentioned in the manufacturing technology, but of course it is quite an important component for comfort.

Upper piece

The only description in the description is that the upper part is made of one material with a single seam. It is a strong fabric that is breathable so our feet will not sweat in it. However, this data says nothing about the shoe itself and the material of the upper, in order to know this we need to buy the shoe.

Xiaomi Mijia Fishbone 5

As a matter of fact, the upper is really made in one piece. The whole material is an elastic, soft, yet resistant thick fabric, which, although made of one material, is made with a different weave on the sides of the shoe, the upper part of the foot or the heel. The weaving is stronger and thicker on the sides and back, while the training is thinner and even almost mesh on the upper part of the foot. The only exception to this is the part at the big toe, where the fabric is stronger but still thinner at the side parts.

Of particular interest is the fact that the shoe does not have a part of the tongue traditionally taken, this is also in line with the upper, but since the fabric stretches perfectly fit the purpose, we do not feel the lack of tongue. What’s even weirder compared to a traditional training shoe is that around the ankle, a weave such as the passport at the sleeve of the jacket was used around the ankle, It gently embraces the part under the ankle.

At the top, the fishbone, or herringbone pattern, is a reinforcement that serves to provide the right elastic material with the right stiffness in the right place. This is also the purpose of the hard insert on the side parts, which keeps our soles while walking and running, it does not allow our feet to tip out of the soles.

In addition to the above, we also find a comfortable glued stiffener in the heel area, but here don't think of any hard plastic sheet, which will be trampled on later when we are lazy to tie the shoe before recording.

Use and experience

Honestly, I was a little scared to order the shoes. I wasn’t afraid of the quality, I was afraid the size wouldn’t be good. Unfortunately, I already have a bad experience with this, for example, I no longer dare to order motorcycle gloves from China because I have never been able to find the right size.

Xiaomi Mijia Fishbone 7

My leg is 44 or a little above but below 44,5. However, you can only order whole sizes, there is no 44,5. Because of this, I then decided to risk the size 44. Maybe it would have been more logical, mainly because of my experience so far, to ask for the bigger one, but based on the size-centimeter table on the order page, the length point given for the 44 shoes was the same as the size of my foot. Now, in retrospect, I said I made the right decision, the size given was absolutely right, the shoes were like they were poured on my feet.

Xiaomi Mijia Fishbone 9

When we first put on a new shoe that is usually a little uncomfortable, the upper and sole should conform to our feet. I usually say that because it’s not the case with the Xiaomi Mijia Fishbone. When I picked it up I really felt like this shoe was made for my feet. The elastic upper surrounds the foot, smoothing it as if we had been wearing it for weeks. Not violently, not tightly, just so gently, defensively embracing the foot.

Wearing shoes is something quite special, much more like a soft home mummy or expensive slipper in comfort than a shoe.

Xiaomi Mijia Fishbone 15

Of course, that doesn’t mean it’s like a mammal, anyway. This is a real, bloody sports shoe. I'm not saying that there is no better way to run, for example, because the sole of my forty thousand running shoes and the whole shoe itself gives a much more stable feeling, but it's a professional sports shoe, developed for athletes, and not a 15 forint training shoe designed for general use.

Xiaomi Mijia Fishbone 12

The sole for running is a bit soft, at least for me. True, this on hard surfaces such as asphalt is more of an advantage than a disadvantage, there my expensive running shoes are a bit hard. What is certain is that the stiffening of the sole and upper is perfect, I don’t want to twist under my ankle while running, and that’s an important consideration. The softness of the sole is thus relative, which is essential that it does not spring disturbingly. There are shoes that are said to absorb and then return the energy generated by gripping the ground to bounce better, faster, stronger, but many of these shoes know nothing more (respect the exception, of course) than to bother you disturbingly while walking or running. . The sole of the Xiaomi Mijia Fishbone is also resilient, but not in this disturbingly resilient way.

Closing Remarks

From what has happened so far, it may be clear that I am very satisfied with the Xiaomi Mijia 2 Fishbone trainers. It’s not a smart shoe, there’s no space for a smart tile in it, but I don’t particularly miss it. In the new Xiaomi shoes, I got to know a general purpose trainer that is perfect for street wear, but sports is not far from it either. If you’re not a professional athlete, if you only run a few miles a week or two a week, you’ll probably find the comfort of the Fishbone enough. However, this can be true for all sports where a high stem is not needed to protect the ankles, or the upper part does not meet a ball, for example, I mean, I can't recommend football with a good heart.

Xiaomi Mijia Fishbone 14

I am not exaggerating, once again, the Xiaomi Mijia 2 Fishbone is my most comfortable shoe so far. I bought it for general, daily wear, and it will be completely good for that, in fact, it will exceed my bloodiest hopes.

If we look at the price, which hovers around $ 50 in Chinese stores, we realize that for that money, we only get the real entry level in a home sporting goods store, and Xiaomi’s shoes give a lot more than that!
