According to VR-Zone information, there will be no performance issues with the new NVIDIA cards.

As is well known, NVIDIA’s mid-range cards, the GeForce 8600GTS and 8600GT, will be unveiled in April. So NVIDIA seems to be keeping to the schedule, so you don’t have to expect a slippage like ATI.

Final GeForce 8600 GTS and 8600 GT Specifications and Images

in our news we have already shown what the two new cards will look like and also reported on the clocks. Now, thanks to VR-Zone, we’ve learned that the 8600 GTS is built according to the P401, while the GT is built according to the P402 design package. The difference between them is the number of PCB layers, which is eight for GTS and six for GT. Another important data is the power consumption, which is around 71 watts for the GTS version and 43 watts for the GT.

Now comes the information that so many are waiting for, namely 3DMark scores, which are indicative of graphical performance. According to source news, the cards have been tested with an Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 processor under 3DMark06. In the test, the GeForce 8600 GTS 5700, while the GT version performed above 4700 points. These scores are roughly in line with the performance of the 7950GT and 7900GS from the current generation, respectively.

The above results show that despite the 128-bit memory interface, the cards bring the required scores they need to bring in the midfield, the only question now being how much this power will be worth under DirectX 10 programs.
