Amazon has launched Fire under its own brand, which is nothing more than a good-priced tablet, with the goal of conquering another market.
Following their own e-book reader, they have now taken another big step and presented their own board. The big announcement took place in Manhattan, where they first saw a machine designed and marketed by Amazon. Of course, the Kindle Fire is also trying to conquer with Android on board, so the more interesting part is more about what’s in the box.
The board has been given a 7 ″ display that uses IPS technology, and proper protection is provided by the already average Gorilla Glass. The display has a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, so its pixel density is 169 PPI, which is good among such machines, the iPad, for example, has a much lower value. Texas Instruments is responsible for the right speed, so here we can welcome an OMAP SoC that has two cores and works at a 1 GHz clock. The storage is 8GB in size, which seems a bit small, but the device will rely heavily on Cloud technologies. As a result, it also has full support for Amazon’s online store, where we can buy and store movies, books, and music. Unfortunately, connecting to the Internet is only possible via Wi-Fi, and the slightly old Eclair (2.1) system may be a problem, but the latter will be a solution over time.
We don’t have any more information about the machine yet, but it’s certain that in return for the $ 199 price, we’re not getting any bad quality at all, in fact, it seems almost unthinkable that Amazon is looking for this at all. This amount does not even reach HUF 45, even at the current very weak forint exchange rates, which seems like a terribly small amount in exchange for the 7 ″ MID. Battery capacity is unknown, the company has set an operating time of 8 hours for average usage and 7,5 hours for watching movies, which is a very medium performance.
Its exterior has an extremely clean design, its dimensions are also very high, it is only 11,4 mm "thick", 190 mm high and 120 mm wide, and it weighs 413 grams. It is expected to be released on November 15, and can be pre-ordered on Amazon from today.
