Intel Montevina platform: processor dumping at the May premiere!

Montevina is the successor to Santa Rosa, the fifth generation of the Centrino platform.

The 5th generation of the Centrino platform will make its debut in May this year: the 2003 Carmel, the 2005 Sonoma, the 2006 Napa, the 2007 Santa Rosa and the 2008 Montevina predecessor. Before we outline the key features of the new platform, we should not forget the Santa Rosa Refresh in January, which can be seen as the first step in the introduction of Penryn mobile processors. The specifications of the 45 nm CPUs are summarized in our table below.

Intel Montevina platform processor dumping at the May premiere!

It is clear from the above timetable what changes the Montevina platform will bring compared to Santa Rosa:

  • the second wave of 45nm Penryn mobile processors: 15 new CPUs
  • integrated Blu-ray / HD DVD support
  • The Intel 9 Express chipset paired with the ICH45M south bridge runs under the codename Cantiga
  • Intel GMA X4500 graphics processor
  • support for WiMAX wireless data technology in addition to Wi-Fi
  • the second generation of Intel Turbo Memory
  • longer battery life

Simultaneously with Montevina, Intel is introducing a new type of marking method that differentiates between mobile processors based on power consumption and size for clearer identification:

  • the peak is still represented by CPUs prefixed with X, Q refers to the four cores
  • as the TDP value decreases, they are denoted T, P, L, or U.
  • for "average" — 35 mm2 - smaller, only 25 mm2central units are indicated by the presence of the letter S.
